Helle
Had a wonderful housesit looking after Helle’s property and her mix of inside/outside cats in Crete.

Helle picked me up from the airport and quickly reintroduced me to the Greek food I had been missing for the previous 3 years. We quickly went over the house and cat routines, with Helle empowering me to take care of any problems that might arise during the stay. She had thought of almost everything, giving me the solid base and confidence to complete this great housesit. She is a very gracious and thoughtful host, with a great sense of humour.

My main charge was Grey, who had just recovered from an operation and slowly getting back to full health. I needed a couple of trips to the vets and then daily pills for a month or so before she was deemed fine, then she came into her playful, cuddly self. She is a great cat who would often demand we’d spend the evenings together on the sofa. She is great fun and I loved playing and spending time together. Snowwhite, who was previously the house cat, had decided a mix of eating inside but living outside was her thing. She would always come looking for some strokes when we encountered each other and was also a cuddly bag of warmth. I was charged by Helle with trying to get her back inside during my stay but this one task I failed with. Showwhite just loved being outside too much when the weather was nice. There were also 7 or 8 outside cats who needed feeding in the morning, who would also be my exiting or greeting party, depending on which direction I was travelling. They all have nice personalities and loved some extra attention.
Helle also takes care of Belle, a very kind natured wolf hound, who is tied up throughout out the day by her less than attentive Greek owner. We would go for a nightly half hour walk around the area, which was most definitely good for us both. Helle is Belle’s angel, and I was pleased to step into her shoes for my brief 3 month stay. Belle was always so happy to see me, and vice versa.
The house is located close to the sea and away from the village of Tavronitis, and during this time of year is rather isolated from people, with all the luxury apartments and tourist accommodation closed down. Helle kindly lent me her bike to travel around, which I'd use to explore the quite jaw dropping countryside and do local shopping tasks. On a Saturday, I'd get the bus and travel into Chania for the incredible market and speciality shops, totally changing my diet and making me feel alive again. The weather was very luckily incredible for most of my stay, allowing me to explore the area on the bike more times that I could have possibly expected. These were some of the most special times of my life thus far, and I couldn’t get enough of it. Even though the sit has concluded, I still feel a part of me has refused to come home and still peddling around the avocado and olive groves.
There is also a wilder side to Crete though, which I encountered when a stray dog started attacking the outside cats I was charged with looking after. It was rather stressful but after alerting locals and police, and being constantly vigilant for a couple of weeks, it seemed to have moved on. Unfortunately though, this came at the loss of two of the friendliest of the outside cats I was charged with looking after...it was very sad. I was totally devastated but Helle backed me with doing what I could, which I did to the best of my ability.
Helle wasn’t interested in daily updates, which was a breath of fresh air. She set me up to succeed and I was more than happy to run with it. I felt chosen for my specific experience, something I was determined to try and live up to so as not to let Helle down. I felt lucky to have had experience living in Greece for many years, so contacting tradesman and getting things sorted wasn’t a problem at all. I have also housesit at times in the past in Greece when the weather has turned from the roasting hot to more stormy and cooler temps, so am aware its important to look out for leaks and such things that can arise when things turn. The house is fully functional and Helle has everything anyone could need for anything that arises. Although I was alone, it never got lonely. There was always something to do and somewhere to go, and the locals who were still around, were always friendly.

Although an old hat at long housesits in Greece, pre-Brexit, this was one housesit that was truly special. Although more involving, especially when the weather turned, and despite the challenges of being isolated and the unwanted Xmas dogs that would appear in the area from time to time, I felt this housesit both energised and reignited something inside me. I really didn’t want it to end. And I don’t have a better recommendation than that. Thank you Helle!

Chirantan
I had an amazing experience house-sitting for Jasmin and Chirantan. Their communication was clear and prompt, making the whole process smooth and stress-free.

The apartment was sparkling clean and welcoming when I arrived. Jasmin and Chirantan's hospitality made me feel right at home. Joe, their dog, is an old, calm, and well-trained companion. He's also very playful and affectionate, which made my stay even more enjoyable.

The house is well located, right by Mauer Park, in a great neighborhood in Berlin. The accuracy of their listing was spot-on, and everything was as described. I highly recommend Jasmin, Chirantan and Joe to any future house sitters and would be happy to house sit for them again.

Thank you, Jasmin and Chirantan, for the wonderful opportunity!

Everything about this sit was wonderful. Tarka is the sweetest little dog; great on her lead, great for snuggles, very easy to take care of. Mary Ann was a wonderful host, incredibly thoughtful and easy to get a long with. She had prepared a lovely lunch on my arrival, left thorough but not intrusive instructions and was quick to respond to any queries I had. The house was lovely, clearly a cherished family home and very relaxing. The village is lovely, the pub next door very friendly, and everything you could need within a short drive.

We spent a few days at mary and Grants lovely home in Golden. Thea and Edgar are very sweet. They love to snuggle up to you and near you whenever they can. We truly enjoyed getting to know these two and their big personalities. Their house was comfortable and they were communicative and easy to work with.
Thanks Mary and Grant!
