Great sit with Maggie a lovely 7 year old Labrador. Based in East Knoyle the cottage was immaculate with all mod cons and an ideal place to stay with a local store and excellent local pub close-by. There are lots of places to take Maggie on her daily walks. Maggie is very well trained and was even showing me where to take her on her walks. Comms with Lucy was easy and straightforward and I was made to feel very welcome. All in all a great sit and recommended.
Donna’s house is in a quiet neighborhood close to shopping. There’s a comfortable dedicated guest room and a screened porch that overlooks a private back yard. Lucky, Pepper and Rory are sweet cats and no trouble. In my experience, Rory was quite shy for the first two days, so I watched very closely to make sure I could get her shots into her on a reasonable schedule, and the first day I could only get one shot into her. The first day she appeared at 2pm, the second day just after noon, and by the third morning, she appeared as soon as I came downstairs and hung around with me for most of the day, and from then on I was able to get her on her regular schedule. She was very calm with the shots, barely seeming to notice. Shaking the comb to make it rattle sometimes helped to get Rory to appear, and leaving the door to the porch at least halfway-open (not just a few inches) also helped keep her feeling comfortable enough to stick around. Rory is quite companionable and will come sit near you if you’re on the family room couch. She even curled up beneath my chair while I worked at the dining room table, purring loudly. Lucky also was companionable, coming to get brushing and sit near me. Pepper mostly liked to hang out upstairs and came down mostly to eat, but when he did he was happy to get some pets. Donna’s instructions were comprehensive and clear, and her expectations reasonable. She was readily available by text and happy to answer questions. She treated me like a friend doing her a favor rather than like a temporary employee.
Where do we begin!? We had such a lovely experience at Ed & Jana’s beautiful country home. First off, Ed and Jana are both such kind and welcoming humans. Upon arriving, they welcomed us both with hugs and smiles. While touring the home and property they told us all about how they repurposed as many materials as possible from their barn that burned down and used them in their home and many other projects, and we were so impressed by what they managed to create! While we were sitting for them, they were great and would respond quickly to any questions or concerns that arose. We absolutely loved taking care of Cedar and Doogle. Cedar was the sweetest girl and she definitely knew her routine and would greet us with a biiiig stretch every morning when we came to feed and let her out for the day. Meanwhile, Doogle had us wrapped around his little toe beans, cradling him like a baby and feeding him his snacks as he demanded. He even helped us catch and release a couple mice in the house! Definitely a perk to sitting for Ed and Jana is their beautiful garden, which kept us fed for the entire 4 weeks we were there. We didn’t have to go to the store at all! We were so grateful to get to feast on fresh veggies every single day while also cultivating a closer relationship with Mother Earth, and we will always cherish our experience at Ed & Jana’s home! We are definitely looking forward to future opportunities and cannot recommend sitting for Ed & Jana enough!
Fun and interesting sit. Cathy and her partner Mark were very welcoming and told me lots to help me manage working dogs rather than pets. At first I concentrated on giving the right food to the right dog in the right place. Then I began to see how individual they are and enjoyed thinking about what was best for each one. Good natured dogs. Stunning surroundings with a lovely view from the kitchen/living room. Comfy bed in the spare room. House is modern inside but still has a country feel. When I walked the bouncy young dog to the local plantation passing locals gave me friendly waves. Thank you!
Lady is the sweetest dog and was fun to hang with. She loves riding in the car, and belly rubs! Helena and Ryan are the cutest couple. Their house is located off I-80 so easy to get where you need to go. ❤️❤️
This sit-uation was made a truly radiant one by Sofia's sweetly calm and regal presence. We fell in love with her quiet ways and deeply meditative being as we all huddled together by the wood stove once the days of sunlit-tree-scape turned suddenly to cold and storm. This kitty seemed to really appreciate her walks on the deck, swinging on the swing, earthing in the sun, and getting massages from both of us, and was a beautiful reminder to both of us to slow way, way down. We loved exchanging stories with Patricia around her campfire before she left and we marveled as she greeted us in her coolest t-shirt-of-a-black-cat-with-a-book-and-candle ever an apparition of a cat we had loved and lost saying hello again. This place, the canopy of gracious trees fed me so much that, like Sofia, I had very little appetite for real, actual food. To think I would never have seen this little slice of heaven unless I had been happily chosen for this housesit, and for a few days I got to be a mountain person before heading down into the dustbowl.
