Alicia and Marvin stayed at our house for a week so we could go on a long awaited cruise that had been cancelled 3 times over the past 3 years. Our 2 dogs are now 13 years old and they both have had some pretty major health issues over the past year, which has started to make me nervous about leaving them behind. Alicia was able to come over to the house before our trip to meet the animals and get the lay of the land. During our conversation, as well as later on when I texted her some last minute thoughts, Alicia paraphrased and repeated back everything I said so that I knew she heard me, understood the instructions, and would follow through. Alicia is very organized and displays excellent attention to details, so the somewhat complicated medication regimen wasn't a problem, and she responds quickly with clear communication. Not to mention, she clearly loves animals! Alicia sent me updates about how the animals (2 dogs, 1 cat, 5 chickens) were doing while we were gone. It was obvious that she was loving on all of them because she described each of their personalities to a tee during her updates. She also made sure to let me know that she was keeping an extra careful eye on the dog who is undergoing chemotherapy treatments and watching for any signs of illness that might be easy to miss by anyone but me. That was a relief, as that dog was my biggest concern about leaving.

I know our animals received excellent, loving care while we were gone because when we got home, they did not display any signs of separation anxiety like they do when housesitters provide only the bare minimum care. But not only did she lovingly care for my animals, she also brought in the mail, watered the patio and house plants, filled the chicken feeders, laundered the towels and bedding, and made up the clean bed so that we didn't have to when we got home late at night. My husband is a bit OCD about cleanliness to the point that while on vacation, he asked me how clean I thought the house would be when we got home. He breathed an audible sigh of relief when we walked through the door and saw that she had cleaned the house so that it looked exactly as we left it.

I hope Alicia and Marvin are available the next time we go out of town, because I would love to invite them back! I would gladly trust them to watch my house and animals again when we are out of town. A big thank you to Alicia in particular for allowing me to go on vacation with peace of mind, knowing my animals were in good hands.
