I loved my stay at Ali and Ben’s place. It is so comfortable and inviting with a beautiful vegetable garden and lots of room to play with Otter in the backyard. The house is easy to navigate, and the night before the sit began, Ali gave me a clear orientation of the essentials. Neighbors were really friendly, and the neighborhood itself is AMAZING. Otter and I walked paths and trails for many kilometers during my stay; we were surrounded by green, which included preserved areas and a small lake. Public transportation is really easy and convenient. Otter, of course, was the best part of the sit. She is so sweet and loving and just wants to be a friend. Who could ask for anything more? Oh, yeah, she is utterly adorable, too, and I am sad to leave her as I sit and write this note while she is curled up looking at my bags. 🥲 Thank you, Ali and Ben!
If you enjoy the countryside and wildlife this is the sit for you, whether sitting on the terrace or in the conservatory with Cuillin and Chutney being mesmerised by the birds (Robins through to Woodpeckers) on the feeders or watching pheasants, Rabbits, Foxes and Deer etc in the garden it is a very relaxing sit. Cuillin and Chutney are a joy to sit, easy to walk with good recall and with many walks available through the fields directly from the house. One easy walk with C & C is through the fields to a Post Office/ Shop and Pub. Fiona and Mark were good hosts suppling us we all the details we needed for a pleasant sit and we had a very comfortable bed with en-suite. A sit that we would happily return to, thank you for choosing us.
If I could leave more than five stars, I would. Taking care of sweet Azul in Geno and Jill‘s beautiful Siesta Key home was truly one of the best sits ever! Not only was the location paradise, but Azul was a sweet, undemanding little fur buddy with a purr that melted my heart every time. He greeted me whenever I came in and kept me company in whatever room I was in, content with a little playtime, “conversation” and then sleeping… all cats’ favorite pastime. Geno and Jill were gracious and communicative hosts, and made me feel completely welcome in their lovely home in a great area of Sarasota, accessible to beaches, restaurants, shopping and breathtaking sunsets. Unfortunately, we didn’t get a chance to meet, as I missed them by just minutes when my flight/car rental delayed my arrival. Lesson learned for the future. I highly recommend this sit and would come back anytime if asked. This is what Trusted Housesitters is meant to be!
My family and I stayed with Yuko and Muffin over the holidays. We had such an amazing time, and Doug and Alison were so helpful. We got stuck in the Blizzard on the way up from Virginia to Ottawa, and they were so sweet to stay in touch with us and even grab us some supplies since the stores would be closed when we got there. We brought our three dogs and one cat (I know, a full house!), and Yuko and Muffin had sooooo much fun with everyone. He would greet us so enthusiastically when we got home, even to the point that he would beg us to greet him first before the others. He was very vocal when he was jealous of the attention the other dogs were getting. He has this adorable habit of chewing on your hair, though, when he is excited, so beware. He will also cuddle you on the couch and in bed, so prepare yourself for his plushy little snuggles. I was surprised by just how friendly Muffin was; she is also the softest cat I have ever touched. She took about a day or two to get comfortable with all the commotion in the house, but once she came out from hiding she was rubbing on the dogs and wrestling with our cat too. Like Alison and Doug will warn you though, she will try to run out of the backdoor, especially when her canine friends were out there playing. She will sit at the back door and cry like a dog to go out and look at you as if to hypnotize you into fulfilling her demand. Ottawa was so lovely and quaint. The Byward Market area has the most going-out activities, but if you venture out of the area a little, we found an idyllic town called Wakefield (on the Quebec side) as well as Almonte. There were tons of cute shops and cafes to visit. We also went sledding at the locals' favorite spot called Greens Lake Sledding (I believe). Overall, this was an awesome trip with a convenient location, supportive hosts, and adorable and friendly animals.
