I was walking on a trail near my home, thinking about how much I enjoyed my walks with Paula’s dogs. As I fondly reminisced about my time at the heavenly spot in NH, I realized I had not written a review for this sit. I met Paula and Mitch prior to the actual sit. “Jeff”, a family friend and fellow animal/nature lover and I were invited to lunch and be introduced to the four legged family members. The property is at the end of a long dirt road, providing a tranquil escape from the noises suburban and urban living, though necessities and lovely neighbors are not too far away. Paula and Mitch took as around the house and portion of property that the farm animals reside on. The house sits on a hill, with a pond below and woods for as far as you can see from either the wrap around porch or from inside through the two story “wall of glass”. Inside you are pink met with a spacious open plan that includes a balcony on the second floor that faces out towards the beautiful view. The home is well appointed with all that you might need during your stay. Bonus is the natural wood interior is stunning. We first met the dogs. One wise gentle lab, one energetic lab mixed with a tree hound (Treeing Walker Coonhound?) and a Great Dane puppy. I believe the puppy in w b BB ould now, early Feb, be six months old. Onto turkeys, chickens, three cow by many college animal studies courses. I was impressed with how clean both the barn, run in and chicken coop were. They all had plenty of room to roam and access to shelter when they wished. The happy greeting they gave when they saw us coming was a sure sign that they have always been treated with kindness. Our visit ended with a lovely lunch Paula prepared, that included some delicious ingredients from her extensive organic garden. Paula and Mitch are genuine and warm people, making you feel truly welcome. During my stay, friend Jeff and I enjoyed time with all the animals. My mother, enjoyed the tranquil setting reading with breaks petting and talking the the dogs, while enjoying the view of nature. The cows are a small breed and very gentle. I hesitate to use the word bull for the male, as I think it causes one to bring to mind the negative stereotype of bulls, of which does not fit the kind boy. While I was mindful of all of the bovines size and strength, they were easy to work around. The chickens provide an endless supply of eggs. I enjoyed seeing their actions change as they became more used to me, allowing their individual personalities to show. The turkeys are a bit more skittish, though their happiness when you move their pen to a new section of grass, is clearly visible. Indeed all the animals show appreciation for your care in their own way. The barn is clean and orderly. Mitch gives great instruction about the animal care routine. In addition he arranged for a friend to come over and put out a round bale (huge amount of hay) out for the cows, decreasing our workload. Without hesitation I recommend this sit for nature and animal lovers. Paula, Mitch and their animal crew are all wonderful and their home and location is a wonderful place for relaxing to the sounds of the birds or of you are in the mood for music inside or OUT, Mitch’s set up has you covered. I will always have fond memories of my stay, as I am sure others will too. Cheers, Dorothy
We enjoyed our stay in Holzwickede and can highly recommend Casey and her family for further house sittings. Bruce, the cat, is absolutely adorable. He likes to play and get some cuddles. He likes to be outside and watch the birds. Bruce lost on of his front legs, but he has not much trouble with this handicap. The communication with Casey and Stefan was perfect. We got a detailed welcome guide beforehand and explanatory videos about the kitchen machines, washer and the sauna. All our questions were answered fast. The house and garden is modern and clean. One of the best parts was the sauna. We felt very welcomed and would came back every time. Such a lovely family :)
I enjoyed looking after Basil and Rufus, who were very sweet, even though Basil is an old gent now and not very mobile. Rufus on the other hand had boundless energy and enjoyed his walks with me and played with Carrot the cat in the garden. I got the impression that Carrot was not at all phased by Rufus and even came for cuddles on my lap with Rufus looking on jealously! Sarah was wonderfully welcoming into her home and gave me a clear and full briefing about her little menagerie of pets - although luckily I didn't have to do anything with the snake! She kindly left me some stuff in the fridge too. Charlbury is a pretty Cotswolds town with a good bus connection, so I popped into Whitney and Woodstock and had some time in Oxford too. Thank you Sarah!
Penny (he, him) is a sweet kitty who warmed up quickly and was very easy to care for. Abigail's home is in a convenient location with many great restaurants and shopping nearby. She has a nature lovers backyard and a well stocked home. I hope to sit with Penny in the future.
Jobe is an incredibly sweet, cuddly, and brilliant dog. We had a great time on our walks and playing in the yard. He was quick to adapt and cozy up to me as a new person. Ina was communicative and easy to work with. The house is in a beautiful, lush, quiet neighborhood. Highly recommend.
Taking care of Claire's home and cat was fun and relaxing. Cas, the cat, is a delight and the best lap cat that I have ever known. Claire's apartment had everything I needed and was very clean and well organized. She provided very detailed instructions for everything. When I had a question, Claire quickly responded. In spite of the fact that she was going to be out of town, she decorated for the holidays. This added to my enjoyment of the sit.
