As the old saying goes, Virginia is for lovers...especially if one loves dogs like the two that met me when I first opened the front door, bulldog Thor and beagle Whiskey! What a duo, these affectionate, entertaining, sweet, playful, loving dogs make. Tim and Wheeler were amazing hosts, leaving me with a detailed, comprehensive sitter's information notebook about the dogs, home and neighborhood. Communication with them was outstanding beginning with my initial inquiry and they let me know about the quirks their old home had to make sure my stay was as comfortable as possible. The few questions I had were addressed right away. The neighbors were friendly and I throughly enjoyed getting to know Whiskey's best friend, Niko, who lived next door. How fun to prop the backdoor opened and have the dogs be able to safely run and play between houses. The neighborhood was very walkable with plenty of parks and trails to explore. It also offered many shopping and dining options but I found I enjoyed staying at home and cooking with Thor and Whiskey as willing sous chefs. Although I had a car, I took advantage of public transportation to get to all the local sites I wanted to visit. It did my heart good to care for Thor and Whiskey and keep watch on a home so full of love!
I have absolutely loved looking after Jack and Molly and would recommend Craig’s property to anyone. Marlow is a wonderful little town with everything you need. It’s got an Everyman cinema, wine bar, restaurants, Gail’s and everything you would need to be comfortable while feeling like you are getting away from the hustle and bustle. Craig was a wonderful and thoughtful host, with great communication. The property was incredibly clean and as described. Jack and Molly are very easy going. Molly is very cuddly and will find any opportunity for a little gig, and Jack is more independent but will be next to you as you go about your day. Overall I’d recommend this sit to anyone looking for a relaxing break, with sweet and affectionate pets.
We absolutely loved Chuck Jones and his beautiful home. Jill was super clear with instructions and gave us helpful suggestions for our stay. Really couldn’t ask for a better house sitting experience.
I had a lovely time in Embsay with Doodle, Dexter, Bella and the four chickens. The view is incredible too! Lots of nice walks to do with Dexter and Bella too. Amber was so lovely and made me feel very welcome. She was always contactable and nothing was too much of a bother. Can’t recommend this sit enough!
I had a lovely time over Christmas with the gorgeous Rufus and Trim, the cartographer's cat. Rufus purred a lot and Trim curled up on my lap after a few days! Jenny and Tom have a great flat, very easy to get a bus anywhere or walk along the river. Trim had to take some medication but was happy in himself. I would recommend Jenny and Tom's place.

We have been using Lynda/Bay Area Pet Pals for at least 7 years as our petsitter for our 2 little dogs whenever we are out of town or need for other reasons. I’ve been using Bay Area Pet Pals (BAPP) for as long as I’ve had my dog (10+ years) and there is absolutely no other dog boarding service nor individual that I would trust to provide as outstanding a level of expertise with kind loving care as BAPP and Lynda. Lynda is experienced, professional yet personable and I have complete peace of mind and trust her implicitly whenever I leave my dog in her care. In fact, all my vacations are always scheduled with her availability in mind. I truly can’t imagine a pet care provider who could be any better.
Bay Area Pet Pals have been a godsend for me. We were new to the Bay area 3 years ago and I didn't have the family I normally relied on to watch my cats. On top of that one of my cats is diabetic and the other has chronic kidney disease. I'm a Veterinary Technician so finding the right people to watch my cats was critical and boarding them just stresses them out. I reached out to Lynda and was super impressed by her business model and the care takers she hires. You give her a lot of information about your pets and that really eased my mind that she cares about them. She is upfront about what she needs from the pet owner so there are no issues while you are gone. I travel a lot and Alisse and Kim and absolutely phenomenal! They give my diabetic cat her insulin and Alisse was even willing to learn to give fluids to my old gal. They spend quality time with them and are in constant communication with me via text or email. You do pay for the service but the peace of mind I get leaving my cats in their care is worth it to me. I highly recommend them!
Heather was awesome! We have a very shy cat but after a few days they were best friends. This company is legit. They scheduled a meet-and-greet and had thorough information forms to make sure the sitter isn't locked out and any specific needs the pet had. Will be booking again for future trips!

We have been boarding our two labs with Kevin for over 8 years, and love him for so many reasons. Kevin truly loves and cares for these dogs, and it is evident in how excited they are to see him. He frequently sends photos and videos of them playing, napping, and cuddling with each other. Kevin does not use crates or enclosures of any kind, as they are all free to roam and treated as if they were his own, in his personal space. He is very attentive at all times. I have full confidence in Kevin to care for our dog children, as he always allows for a stress-free vacation when we are away. I appreciate his responsibility and love for the pups. Thank you, Kevin!
Haven’t met any other dog daycare or boarding place that cares more about their dogs than Kevin at Andy’s Boarding Place. He is always very communicative, the hours are great, and he sends updates throughout the day so you know your dog is happy. Our dogs have been going to Kevin for more than four years and we don’t plan to look anywhere else. We always have peace of mind that they are safe and happy at Andy’s Boarding Place.

For about a year, Erika was both my dog walker and pet-sitter extraordinaire for my two-year-old Sheepadoodle, Henry. She was so patient with my growing puppy and his boundless energy. And she was just as patient, flexible, reliable and kind to me and my ever-changing schedule. I moved out of state last March and Erika watched Henry for over a month while I traveled back and forth. While I love my new home, I haven't found a pet-sitter who compares to Erika's trustworthiness and professionalism. Henry and I both miss her terribly!!
Erika is great! Our senior lab loves sniffing around with her. She's very reliable and patient, and we love getting a video summary of what our dog sniffed.
I honestly cannot express how wonderful Erika was as not only a dog walker, but as a professional, animal-lover, and overall human being. She agreed to walk my 80lb pitbull mix relatively last minute and when she realized I was outside her range (she's located in Atherton) she immediately began calling pet sitters and dog walkers within her network and in my area. Until I was able to find someone local she committed to driving 30-40 minutes just to walk my dog. When the copy of my key didn't work for the main apartment enterance she went from door to door and found one that the key was able to open. The 30minute walk turned into almost 2 hours of trying to get into the building. It takes a very special person who truly cares about animals to go through all of that just for one customer and one dog. If you're lucky enough to live within her radius, contact Erika, she cares about your pup as much as you do.
I can't say enough about Erika and Summerhill Pet-Sitting. We needed a pet sitter at the last minute and luckily she was available. She took great care of our cat Redman for us, showed up when she said she would and left everything cleaner than when we left. And Redman loved her. We'll definitely be using her again...
All I can say is that this is what a dog needs when boarding, someone who really loves and take good care of them. Valecans home is the only place I would ever leave my dog, very communicative, professionals, animal lovers, today is my dogs birthday and I couldn’t be with him because of work, and they made a birthday party for him, this is what our pets deserve. We started with Happy Tails in October and could not be happier. They take such great care of Susie, my dog. She is always so excited to sprint out of the car to daycare. I tried a few other daycares in the area and Happy Tails far exceeds. The caring staff here really make the place as the fact they foster a fun, non-aggressive vibe. You can tell they really care about all the dogs. So happy we found this place!
What a great place! They were very good with my puppy and gave him the hair trim he needed. I didn’t get the groomers name, but she is amazing at what she does. The only place I will be taking my dog from now on.
Happy tails doggy day care been caring for our family dogs for the last 10 years. Our previous dog who passed away used to snuggle with the older pups, she had lots of separation anxiety so I was so grateful Happy tails were able to accommodate her. Our current pup, a super energetic catahoula mix - has been a frequent visitor for overnight stays been going to Happy tails for years and also gets a bath upon pickup.. we are very grateful for a cage free, caring place such as this
Happy Tails is our beloved pooch's home away from home, for daycare a few times a week as well as stays for up to two weeks. Jax is excited every time, gets lots of love and treats from the family & staff, and loves the social, crate-free environment. You should know that this is not "luxury" boarding, it can be noisy, and may not work for super-shy dogs, but I'm so grateful for the love they show our Jax!
My dog always has a good time coming here. I know the staff really cares because everyone at happy tails knows my dog by her name. They even recognizes my car so often when I drive up they start prepping my pup for pick up and when I finish parking, she is already ready to go. They also do a good job with nail grinding, bathing and other grooming services. 10/10 would recommend.
Happy Tails is truly one of the best dog daycare centers in the Bay Area!! My dog and I drive an extra 80 minutes roundtrip from downtown SF to Belmont just for Happy Tails. My dog is beyond loved and well cared for every time we go. He no longer attends regularly - perhaps twice a month - yet they always remember him no matter how much time has passed. The staff are kind, thoughtful, and patient. The prices are incredibly reasonable. My dog has the full day 20 visit package and it’s a great value in comparison to so many other dog daycare services. I highly recommend Happy Tails for your dog’s daycare needs!! Bonus: at Christmas they invite Santa to come visit the dogs!
Love this daycare/boarding for my fur baby. This is my second dog that goes to Happy Tails and I am very happy with the care they provide. My dog gets very excited when we pull up to the door. The staff is very kind and clearly they love dogs! I highly recommend Happy Tails for daycare and overnight care!!
My dogs have been going to Happy Tails for years for day care and overnight boarding. They love it and the people there really care about the dogs. They have large indoor area for the dogs to play and a smaller outdoor space for them to be able get outside. They break up the dogs into groups based on size and age I believe (small dogs with small dogs, big dogs with big). They also do grooming which my dogs also have had dsone there and they do a nice job cleaning up the pups!
This place takes such good care of our girl Dottie. She comes home so tired and happy, I know she's in good hands. They offer nail clips and baths before you pick up (for a fee) so she's all fresh for home. They do open sleeping, grouped by size/energy, so our babies aren't in a cage, just hanging out and snuggling. An overnight attendant stays with them. One thing to note, they're only open for pickup on Sundays from 3-6pm.
I found Happy Tails after Península Pet closed their dogs. I was in a tough situation since Peninsula had looked over my three dogs and now I was lost. We gave it a try and our labradoodle loves it, we are thankful we found them.

Omg where do I start. If you want to send your dogs to people who truly care, go here. I have 2 dogs. A puppy (Victor) and an elderly dog, Benji. Sadly, Benji crossed the rainbow bridge. I got a card in the mail from Smilin Dogs. I thought “that’s sweet that they thought of us”. I opened it and there were AT LEAST 10 and probably more messages from the staff with personal anecdotes about my dearly beloved dog. THEY KNEW AND LOVED HIM!!! No words to describe this. Our pup now gleefully has fun there and the staff is amazing. You can’t go wrong.
We’ve been sending our pups to Smilin Dogs for decades. Our 2 doodles get crazy excited every Wed when the van comes to pick them up for weekly hike. It’s the only place we trust for dog boarding when we’re away. The staff at Smilin Dogs are wonderful so we know our fur babies are always in good hands.
We’ve used smilin’ dogs for almost 10 years with two very different dogs. Both are large so they go on the off leash hikes and it’s a win-win. The dogs have so much fun (even our current much more anxious dog seems to do great), the dogs get social time and lots of exercise and the Smilin’ Dogs tea is always so helpful and willing to give super specific feedback on the dogs. The “camp counselors” love these dogs and their hikes and treat them like their own! Huge thank you to Smilin’ Dogs!

Our Doberman fur baby loves Smilin Dogs and if I tell her that “you’re going to the ranch today” she gets very excited and can’t wait to go run and play with her dog friends. She was anxious with other day care providers but does well at SD’s when boarding too.
Nothing but great things to say about Smilin Dogs. My dog has been going to the ranch twice a week for years and we board on occasion. They are easy to communicate with. My dog has been happy and well cared for.
Just started taking my 2 dogs. They have a super friending staff, and are very accommodating. My pups had a great time . My puppy came home exhausted in a good way…. Ate and went right to sleep…. FIALLY found a way for him to release all of his puppy energy without driving his brother nuts lol. My other (older) dog was so happy lol:! Thanks again Smilin Dogs for a great first day:-)
I’m so happy I found this place! Royce is usually stand off-ish with strangers and doesn’t like to interact with other dogs, so I’m particular with where I send him when I need to travel. But I’ve used Holiday Kennels twice now and seeing how much they care about the animals and how much Royce likes to come here and see the people, it lets me know i have nothing to worry about! They truly care about your pets and their well being. I already have Royce’s next stay booked!
Updated review: I debated updating this but after picking up our dog after her second stay, I’m not a fan of how we were treated. When I called to schedule her stay, I had a great experience with the woman over the phone. I asked her if there were specific drop off times to abide by, she kindly told me as long as they are open, there’s no limitation or fees outside of that. Their google hours showed open from 8:30-5:30. Google is what I use since it’s how I route myself there. We showed up at 12:30 to drop off and were met with a woman who was very irritated with us. She repeatedly told me I should have checked the website and I would have known they closed for two hours (11:30-1:30) otherwise there is a fee. I told her I based it off my phone call and the google hours. Again, we were only met with annoyance. Had I been aware of the closure, I would have shown up before. It wouldn’t have been a problem. We are thankful she opened the door and accepted our dog. She could have not returned our call. So we appreciate that even though we weren’t met with kindness. Before we left the parking lot, I suggested an edit to their hours on Google to help them and other clients out. It was accepted almost immediately. So the correct hours are reflected now. I wanted to let it go and move on as it was just a miscommunication, but it was brought up again at pickup to my husband. “Your wife should have checked the website.” -another woman who was also clearly not happy about it. Outside of this, we had only had really positive experiences with the staff and they seemingly take really great care of our dog. This is unfortunate and I cannot help but feel a bit turned off by it. Original review: 5/5 Very grateful for Holiday Kennels! They took our husky in for a week long stay very last minute (the day of) when our other arrangement cancelled on us. And they were able to accommodate her an extra day. The rates are the best you will find in the area and the people are very kind! I was worried about our dog because she can get anxious when we leave her but she seems happy and was well taken care of. We will use this kennel again in the future.
Leaving your dogs for a few days is not easy for anybody, especially when your dogs are very close to you as April and Bianca are to me and my wife. However, Holiday Kennels does a great job taking care of them. For that reason, we wouldn’t leave them in any other boarding. Rusty and the rest of the team are amazing. Our dogs love them! During weekends, my wife and I send them messages asking for pictures, and they will send them right away! The bath and nails service is also really good (and the best price in the neighborhood).

I’ve been bringing my doggie Stormie here for some time. When I first found them on Yelp I was relieved they were able to board Stormie on such sort notice for more than a couple days. Every since then I bring her whenever I’m going somewhere & need a sitter. I also added some grooming in which was lovely, I have a husky. I get good vibes from the staff you can tell they really love animals!
Best value dog boarding in the Bay Area. We love taking our pups Leia and Alfie here when we go out of town. They clearly spend lots of time with them because they notice personality traits and habits that would be hard to pickup on otherwise. Our dogs always come back happy and healthy, and you can always give them a call to ask for a update.

Maria helped me with my dog while I was away on holiday. She was very communicative. She would keep me updated with texts messages and pics throughout the day. I specifically chose Maria because she is very active. She would take my pup for LONG walks and I LOVED that about her. She is a good fit for my fur child 🐕 and many others I imagine ❤️.
Melissa takes great care of our sweet dog Pepsi. She is always flexible with drop offs and pickups, and is super responsive. She makes her place warm and inviting for our sweet Pepsi, and he always seems like he has had a great time playing with the other dogs at Muttley’s Playhouse. Melissa sends plenty of pictures over the course of Pepsi’s stays and we are always comforted knowing Pepsi is in good hands when we are traveling. Our dogs had such a good time with Melissa! We got multiple videos a day of them playing and resting, and they seemed much more at ease then any other time they’ve been away from us before. The indoor-outdoor space was perfect for them to have the freedom to explore and do what they want. And when we finally brought them home they were very content and fell right asleep. Melissa and Jesse are awesome. They are extremely loving to my little pup and she is always super excited to spend the day with them. They are very flexible with pickup and drop offs and I never have to worry about making changes at the last minute. Melissa is also very easy to reach and will send me cute videos of my dog playing with hers. I have also boarded my dog with her for a couple days and she was extremely patient with my various instructions and gave me very consistent updates throughout the entire time. Overall, I highly recommend Muttley's Playhouse! Very consistent, reliable and trustworthy.
Melissa is awesome! I started with a meet & greet so my dog could visit the house, which made dropping him off so much easier! He is just a puppy and I left him over night for the first time. Melissa sent me tons of videos and pics to keep me updated on how he was doing - which was awesome! My dog had so much fun running and playing with the other dogs and came home so tired! I was nervous to leave my puppy for the first time, but Melissa made it so much easier than I imagined. My pup can't wait to go back! :) which will be soon!
Melissa is wonderful and her backyard is perfect for our energetic rescue! Her flexibility and love for dogs is a perfect match. We had a family emergency and tried 10+ different daycares and Melissa responded within 20minutes with arms wide open. We had previously tried several commercial day schools which didn’t give our 6month rescue enough attention. He is super shy and nervous of people and it is unbelievable to see the change in his behavior after 2 full day sessions with Melissa and the other pack of dogs. He has now began to give attention to Melissa and has started giving strangers kisses. Whatever water Melissa gives them must have magic! Even better he is wiped out completely after the day. George has stayed with Melissa multiple times and loves her so much! Every time we drop him off he sprints inside without a goodbye. Melissa is great at communicating and she sends multiple pictures and videos of the dogs throughout each stay! Highly recommend Melissa as a trusted dog sitter.
We boarded our 6 month old puppy with Mellisa for two weeks. It was the first time we had spent any time away from our puppy since we got him so we were pretty nervous about it. We had planned to leave him with relatives but that fell through at the last minute. After reading many different reviews for different options, Melissa was at the top of my list, so I was very glad that she had room to take him. I'm very pleased with the whole experience, from doing a meet&greet with her and introducing our dog to some of the other dogs she was boarding, drop off, pick up, and how well she kept me up to date during the trip, sending me a photo or video every couple of days. I would highly recommend Mellisa and will definitely be comfortable leaving my dog with her for our next trip.
My two dogs love coming to Melissa’s. It makes life so much easier knowing they are being cared for in a home environment, living their best lives as they do at home!! Melissa is flexible and easy to connect with. I highly recommend her place!
5 STARS! Can’t recommend highly enough how good Melissa’s place is - she sends us daily pictures and videos of our pup which always puts a smile on my face! Our dog Summer comes back home very happy, socialized, tired and content. She also misses her new doggy friends! Melissa obviously loves animals and cares about the dogs she looks after, and the fact that it’s a house setting rather than kennels is a winner in my eyes. Ryan is an absolute gem! My pup is difficult, she doesn’t like other dogs and is very sassy. Ryan has always cared for her with patience and kindness. It’s hard for me to trust anyone else with my dog because Ryan has been so amazing. Also a plus that Ryan is friendly and respectful of the house. My family and I appreciate him so much for taking care of our baby.
Ryan is fantastic! He took great care of my extremely skittish rescue cat with such kindness and skill. I can’t believe how fast they connected. I look forward to having him care for my dog as well. He’s super knowledgeable and clearly loves animals.
Ryan and his wife are the best!! We have left our dog there since she was a little less than a year old. First for daycare and then when we went on vacation, the most recently for a whole month!! Penny always comes home happy, clean and well looked after. We are grateful for Ryan’s diligence and care in looking after our pet and are confident we are leaving her in caring hands. We adore Ryan! Ryan has taken care and walked both our boxer dogs. He is such a genuinely good person. He loves all animals, knows how to train, administer medications and make all animals feel safe. I highly recommend Ryan!
Ryan is amazing! Our 2 year old pup is fairly skittish, weary of men, and a little hyper, but adores Ryan (and his family) and comes home happy and calm from her visits/stays with him. Ryan came highly recommended from a friend and we are so happy to have found him!
Ryan took great care of our cat while we were traveling, feeding her and cleaning the litter box in our house. He was very flexible with the timing based on our preference although it was a long weekend and we scheduled kind of late with him. I ended up asking him another favor from the house work and he kindly admitted to do that too. I highly recommend him!

We had last mins request. Ryan showed up each time on time. It is little tricky to get our dog go for a walk with someone that she is not familiar with but Ryan was able make it work. We highly recommend if you need someone that you can trust to take care your furry kids. Ryan shows me he is very knowledgeable about animals and most of all he has a great heart ♥️

Ry The Pet Guy and his dog walkers are life-savers! I adopted my 3rd rescue over the pandemic, a year old German Shepherd with a lot of energy, and finding Ry has been such a relief. He gets picked up twice a week by Gabe who takes him for his pack walk and even works with him on behavioral issues. He sends spectacular photos of their pack walks and video of how to continue the training exercises. Gabe goes above and beyond to connect with the dogs. Best of all, when we board all 3 dogs, they love him and the rest of Ry's crew and come home happy and relaxed. Absolutely top service for dog care!
Ry The Pet Guy and his team have made our trips abroad much less stressful! We know that our precious little dog is safe, cared for and relaxed while he is with Ry. All the staff are very attentive and send us pictures of our wee pup while we are away. Ry and his staff provide a calm environment for all of the dogs. Ry and team are so thoughtful with their dog care. This is the *ONLY* dog boarding place where our pup gets excited to go with them - all other places we've tried, our pup gets scared and nervous, breaks your heart as a dog mom! Instead, when Ry and his guys show up, our little girl cannot wait to jump in and head off to a weekend with her friends - did I mention they pick up your pup too? So convenient! Better still, Ry takes magazine quality photos and will send them to you while you're away from your beloved pup. Are they the least expensive option? Of course not, but the quality of care, the love they show these dogs, and the piece of mind of knowing our girl is well cared for while we're away makes it completely worth it. We've been using Ry The Pet Guy for over 2 years and have nothing but great things to say about them! Our dog (the one on the far left) goes 3 days a week, and has boarded with them for long weekends and extended stay when we have been out of town. Our dog loves the entire staff and has no problem being away. Gabe has been picking-up/returning her, and our dog can't wait to go in the morning! Gabe lets us know the 30 min slot he will be coming, and sends us daily photos. He is friendly and delightful to work with and we trust him to leave our dog inside if we are not at home. He also does some obedience training!
I would highly recommend Ry the Pet guy. Our original plan of care from a dog sitter fell through at last minute and our pup (Frenchie) has never been away from us. So I was a little nervous about leaving him but Ry and his staff were super warm and welcoming with Stitch. He was so excited and doing zoomies on the property when we arrived. He is a huge ball of energy so I was curious how he would do there. Throughout the 3 days we received daily updates on Stitch and pictures of his walks and adventures. It was such a good feeling to be reassured he was happy, well cared for and having a great time with other dogs. We will definitely be using their boarding services again. As someone who had never left my dog alone, I was understandably nervous about leaving him in the care of strangers. But from the moment I dropped off my pup, Indy, I knew he was in good hands. The team at RTPG are true dog whisperers, and had Indy comfortable and happy from day one. Throughout my trip overseas, they kept me updated with pictures of Indy on epic walks with his new friends, and I could see from his eyes that he was having the time of his life. They even helped Indy overcome his fear of bigger dogs, and gave me tips on how to be the best owner possible. When I picked Indy up, he was better adjusted than when I left him, and eager to return to RTPG. Their facilities are spotless, they come and pick up your pupper and drop him off for daycare as well. Overall, I can't recommend RTPG and their team enough. They truly care about the dogs in their care and go above and beyond to ensure they have a great experience. If you're looking for a place where your dog can be safe, happy, and have an adventure, look no further than Ry The Pet Guy.
Ryland and his team are amazing! They take such good care of my fur baby, Harry, who can be an odd ball, and frankly, a handful. They understand dog behavior so well, and give my dog so much love and attention. He gets so excited when he knows that he is going to stay the weekend with Ry and team. Ryland has also done extensive behavioral training to be a trusted dog trainer. His passion for learning new tools and approaches impressed me, and made me feel at ease when I first began using him. I am so grateful to Ry the Pet Guy and team for being part of our pack and trusted caretakers. 11 out of 10 recommend!!
