I really enjoyed my stay at Alison's and Peter's stylish and comfortable home. They're such a friendly couple and provided all the information I needed to have a great stay. They were kind enough to invite me to stay the night before they left and Peter cooked a delicious dinner. I loved my walks around the garden each day to leave food for the various wild visitors that their large garden attracts. It's not every house-sit that delivers a friendly pheasant pecking at the window because I was a little late with his lunch! Ockbrook is very easy to get to and offers the benefit of countryside walks, plus quick access to Derby and Nottingham. If you don't have a car, there are a supermarket and other stores within walking distance (including a fabulous cake cafe) but if you do have a car, you'll be able to get to the beautiful Peak District. I highly recommend this easy and welcoming sit.
Socks was a delight! We enjoyed taking strolls to the hilltop cemetery. The area provided a beautiful retreat and the home was wonderful.
This sit with Alfie was a great experience. Penny & Ian were gracious hosts with a lovely, cozy home in a neighborhood just south of Portland (just 10 minutes to downtown and to Old Port). Alfie will be your best friend ~ especially if you have treats! He enjoyed our walks around the neighborhood and the nearby beaches, getting super excited about car rides (where he easily lays down in the back). And he slept on the bed with me each night.
Billy was such a lovely dog. He was strong but obedient and very affectionate. He was excellent with other dogs and was very happy to play with them and rest on the sofa for the rest of the day. We hope to be back soon. Thank you for trusting us to look after him.
We had a great time at Celiaβs place with her two lovely dogs. There are a few parks and the lake nearby which the dogs loved and they were so sweet and well behaved, they are amazingly well trained dogs! Celia was easy to communicate with and we would definitely recommend the sit!
I'm so happy I took a chance on Cherry & Dean as they were looking for their first sitter because this is a fantastic sit! It was kind of last minute, but Cherry spent significant time putting together all of the welcome package information (and even printed it and put it in a binder at their house for reference!). She was very thorough which made taking care of things a breeze. I also got in the night before and got to spend a little time chatting with them- they are wonderful people, and their love of Boston shines through in all of their excellent recommendations! Cherry even went so far as to get me some attraction tickets through the library. They were easy to communicate with; we had a zoom chat before and were available via text during their trip. They were also flexible about my flight times and dates (which was helpful since my little home airport has a limited number of flights). Now let me tell you about Finnley. If you've ever seen the movie Grumpy Old Men, you'll get a little idea about Finnley. He's a little stubborn and set in his ways, but is absolutely lovable! You do need to be firm with him, as he will absolutely test to see what he can get away with, but stand your ground from the start and you will get along great! He is super low maintenance, making this a really easy sit. After the morning routine, you can easily spend hours sightseeing while Finnley enjoys napping. He was more than happy just to play with his toys by himself or nap while I was back at the house in the evenings, but especially appreciated a good belly rub. :) He's content just to chill. A little about Boston: Cherry & Dean have what I imagine is a pretty large home by Boston standards. They are only two blocks from the train station, and I would definitely recommend getting a train pass (7 days was only $22.50). I was able to take the train from the airport to their house, and around the city to see all of the attractions with ease. The core of downtown Boston, where most of the historical sights are located, is very walkable, and there are train stations all around. Spend a little time before you go deciding what you would like to see and familiarizing yourself with the nearby train stops and you'll find that even with all of the twisting, confusing roads, the city is really easy to navigate. I felt safe as a solo female traveler everywhere I went during my days out. I did the Freedom Trail, MIT/Harvard campuses, Beacon Hill, Boston Commons and Public Gardens, the Newbury Avenue areas, and the New England Aquarium. I also walked the five blocks from their house to the Samuel Adams Brewery Testing Lab which offers tours on the weekend. There is so much to do in Boston, so if you have ever had an interest in checking it out, this sit is a very convenient way to do so. Overall great sit, great people, great dog, and great city- I would highly recommend!
