I had a wonderful stay in Sherston at Fiona & Peter's farm between Christmas and the New Year! The house itself is beautifully decorated and very homely, it has all the modern amenities you need, so modern I didn't realise the Quooker tap was the kettle for the first few days (haha!) The guest room was comfortable and cosy and had a beautiful view across the fields. Mr Whippy and Tinker were a pleasure to look after, both very different personalities but both funny, loving characters. Tinker was very affectionate and could be a diva at times which was comical. Mr Whippy who is such a gentle soul very much enjoyed snuggling up on his chair or in one of his blanket beds and had the occasional mad 2 minutes, both enjoyed lots of scratches and slept lots after our walks. The walks from the property around Sherston were just beautiful, even in the torrential rain & gale-force winds everyday, it was lovely to see the local area. Tinker knew exactly where to lead me and she'd definitely let me know if I was going the wrong way. I took both dogs to Westonbirt Arboretum which was stunning, again, even in the rain it was lovely, so I definitely need to plan a trip there to enjoy the gardens in the spring. Both dogs travelled lovely in the car and were always well behaved. A shout out to Zara and Lyria the horses, who were wonderful to say hello to in the mornings and afternoons and have a little chat & neck scratch! A well as the welcome guide on THS, Fiona left me comprehensive instructions/information on the countertop and even sent me links to local walks and messaged me further info. Unfortunately due to the weather, Fiona's flight was diverted which caused unavoidable delays, however Fiona kept me up to date with travel plans and times which was great. I stayed with the dogs until Fiona was en route, then let the dogs out for one last toilet before leaving. If you're thinking of applying to look after Mr Whippy & Tinker I couldn't recommend it enough! Thank you Fiona, Peter & Family.
It was a great pleasure for me to take care of the cats and the house of Gabi and Ali. All cats are easy going and above all very sweet. Paka, the only cat also inside, is a joy to be around. But also Dora and Potea, the cats that stay on the terrace, are a pleasure to deal with. Although the search is on for a permanent address for Potea. Hopefully this will work out soon, he deserves it. The cats on the edge of the village hop to meet you when you walk up to them. The group kept getting bigger. The village is small, with a cafe and an emergency shop. The locals are friendly. A beautiful walking route, Rocha da Pena, runs through the village. The small supermarkets are 6km. further in a village. Occasionally it was necessary to have contact with Gabi and Ali, but that was no problem. I am happy with this experience and like to stay there again.
