Elke
We had a wonderful time housesitting for Elke. Her house is beautifully decorated, cozy, spacious, and it is clear that lots of love and care have been put into the place. Simply spending time there was an experience in itself.
Lola was also a joy to take care of. She is independent and spends much of the day outside, but when she comes in, she is always glad to receive cuddles or play. She is sweet and tender, and we enjoyed keeping her company.
Communication with Elke was also great. She left detailed instructions about everything we needed to know about Lola and the house, and was also very responsive on whatsapp whenever we had questions or issues.
Would love to sit again if invited!

I had such a lovely time taking care of your beautiful cats.
Your home is super easy to get to/from the airport and to/from the main train station in Zürich.
Maybe one day I will be able to come again.

LISETTE
I throughly enjoyed sitting Mr Lefty for Lisette and Josh. They were so kind and welcoming. Lisette was very detailed in giving me written information about Lefty and the house and I referred back to it many times during the sit. It was very, very warm in Phoenix during the entire sit but I was able to take Lefty out for a walk first thing in the morning and every evening after 7. He’s a very smart, curious boy that made me laugh out loud several times a day. Lisette and Josh live in a darling neighborhood in a picture perfect house. Great restaurants and coffee shops right near. I would highly recommend a stay here and would come back anytime!

I had a great week in Gypsy Hill with the lovely Darcy. He was no trouble at all. He was a little shy at first but relaxed quickly. He absolutely loved his brush and snuggling up on the huge comfy bed.
Katy was a great communicator. The flat was very clean and comfortable. I felt very secure and there’s a very helpful neighbour downstairs.
The location was ideal for me, 2 mins walk to the station, lots of buses nearby. A short walk to Crystal Palace park which has a great cafe.
Thanks for a great time 😊

We really enjoyed our sit looking after Arlo. He is such a character and easy to look after. We took him on long walks, in the woods, and on the beach. Communication was very good with Jan, and we enjoyed exploring the area.

This sit was a little bit different to our others, so I feel I must start with writing about the home owners themselves, (before the animals), as they were a huge part of why our time spent there was so amazing.

El and Rick are such wonderful people, and from our first conversation several months earlier by video call, we felt we were 'singing from the same hymn sheet', as it were.

They had chosen us as a family to sit for them, as there was quite a lot of responsibility involved. But for those dates, only myself (mum) and my 14 year old son could go. They were fine with this, as both of us - my son in particular - has experience and confidence taking care of goats and chickens, so the lack of another adult wasn't an issue for them.

We arrived two days before they left for their trip, to allow plenty of time for them to walk us through what was needed. This kinaesthetic approach was extremely helpful, as there was lot to cover. However, in addition to this, they had prepared a calendar with all of the daily tasks listed, which made things SO easy to follow, AND numerous pages with extra information about the animals, garden, house and the surrounding area.

We were also personally introduced to their neighbours, so if we needed anything at all while they were away, we had someone to call.

The words I would use to describe El and Rick are, warm, hospitable, generous, down-to-earth, creative, extremely organised, environmentally conscious and kind.

We knew EXACTLY what they needed for their home, animals and from us.

Literally everything was covered.

For animals, there are four goats, five chickens, one cat and one terrapin to take care of.

All of them are extremely happy - yes you can tell - and all have a particular routine of care. It's thorough, and it works. The areas in which they live are spotlessly clean, and well organised. Taking care of them was fun, interesting and a real pleasure. The goats are heavenly cute, and so friendly. We really enjoyed not only the daily required care, but also just nipping down to visit them to give them scratches and treats. It was beautiful to watch the relationships between the mums and their 'kids'.

The chickens all have individual personalities, and it wasn't just a case of throwing in greens for them to eat, but making sure that the 'street kid' rescues (my nickname for them), didn't gobble up the goodies before the more refined older hens had a chance.

Lou Lou the cat is the sweetest girl. It took a while for her to acknowledge us as her temporary carers, but once she did, she let us know what she wanted and when.

Ripper the terrapin was a total surprise. Having had pet tortoises as a kid, I was a tiny bit familiar with this type of animal, but never one with such a strong personality. He was a source of great joy, and we would often just watch and chat to him - and he would react. He was really cute, and very funny.

Along with the house and animal care, was the garden. Being summer, there was a rota of watering, upkeep and minor harvesting to be done. The various growing areas provided us with an abundance of naturally organic and delicious fruits and veggies to eat. I could use the trendy phrase 'from garden to plate' here, but that would be an understatement, as often it was from garden to mouth. Eating berries, and fresh leaves straight from the plant was incredibly soul satisfying, and we felt very grateful to be able to do this.

El and Rick have created an amazing and wonderfully inspiring life in their little corner of the world, and their beautiful haven vibrates with love and kindness - for the earth, animals and the people whom they share it with.

If you are looking for a sit with minimal requirements then this may not be for you. However, if you are willing to integrate yourself into someone else's routine, and methodology, living close to nature, yet still having access to the automation of the modern world within the mod cons of a warm cosy home, and with time spare to do your own thing, then do contact El and Rick, as this will be right up your street/paddock.
