We miss Diesel, a lovely young Labrador with the sweetest nature, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time in Johanna’s large family home. Johanna could not have been more helpful or pleasant, and we look forward to seeing her again. We met her for a meal before we moved in, and she gave us great advice on both the house and Diesel.

Diesel does need company so this sit wouldn’t suit somebody who wants to spend frequent long days exploring London. We were working from the house during the week, and it was ideal for us. Johanna has some very helpful neighbours who kindly looked after Diesel for a few hours a couple of times. He would actually be a great dog to take on excursions, as long as things aren’t as hot as they were in London during the summer of 2022!

Diesel is a very friendly, energetic dog. He spent the first 24 hours reluctant to eat, which we think was missing Johanna. We initially had to encourage him and give him some reassurance while he was doing so, and he soon got back in the way of it. During the extreme summer heat he needed a bit of reminding to drink enough. Diesel can be slightly pulley when you are walking him on the lead. Johanna showed useful a technique for getting him to focus back on you and that settles him down quickly.

He was affectionate from early on, but he definitely became more playful as he got more used to us. Diesel is quite happy lying chilling out for much of the day, but he will gently request a cuddle or a game at intervals - which is adorable and irresistible. He invented a hilariously complicated game of fetch, in which he collects 3 or more sticks in his mouth, drops the ball at your feet, scampers after it when thrown while carrying all the other objects in his mouth. He then drops everything, picks up the new object, carefully adding to the collection in his mouth. It is an endlessly amusing, highly impressive game.

Every morning and evening we would take Diesel to the common or to Richmond Park. He is happy if you walk, but if you do enjoy running, take him with you. He loves racing back and forth past you. He has good recall and is very well behaved while off the lead.

Johanna’s house is very light and comfortable, with a roomy, well-equipped kitchen and pleasant bedrooms. We enjoyed harvesting apples from the tree in her garden.

The house is in a nice area. The common is literally two minutes’ walk from Johanna’s house, and the Richmond Park backs on to it. North Sheen high street has some very good shops and is a few minutes’ walk away.

Thank you Johanna for letting us stay in your lovely home, and to Diesel for making it so fun!
