Abstract: Leigh Ann and Jonathan are excellent house sitters and superb people. We felt fortunate to have them care for our friends and our home. They were dependable, adaptable, and communicative. They were loving and affectionate with our pets. After three months, they left our home better than they found it. Carola and I cannot recommend them enough, and we would gladly welcome them back. This was our first experience with zeewoi, and we were a little apprehensive. Ours was a pretty advanced sit. It was a long-term stay during winter months in a remote location with few services. There are many details here that require constant attention. In addition to caring for pets and cows, maintaining our place required Leigh Ann and Jonathan to chop firewood, cook and heat with that firewood, shovel snow, pump water, and use a generator when the power failed. They had to endure a rough road that required 4WD and chains for their infrequent trips to town. Even so, there was never a sense that Leigh Ann and Jonathan were in over their heads. They were very matter of fact about what needed to be done, and they did it without drama. In fact, almost immediately after we left, Leigh Ann and Jonathan experienced a “40-year snow storm,” which knocked out power for days and left them isolated for nearly two weeks. Not only did they manage, but they did it gracefully. They plowed snow with the tractor, they repaired broken stovepipes, and they braved the snow every day to go out and feed the cows. Moreover, they kept us informed throughout their ordeal (once internet was restored). We were prepared to end our trip almost before it began, but Leigh Ann and Jonathan took these difficulties in stride and never hinted that quitting was a possibility. Needless to say, we were (are) grateful. As the weather improved, Leigh Ann and Jonathan made improvements around the land. They cleared trails in the forest, and Jonathan used the tractor to gravel soft spots in the road. They also used shovels and picks to divert water from the access road to keep it passable as rain and snow melt softened low areas. While I’m certainly missing some “little detail” that required days of attention and energy, I’ll stop here to summarize. Faced with a difficult sit, Leigh Ann and Jonathan excelled. We returned to find our pets happy, healthy, and well cared for. The dogs only missed us a little, and the cats didn’t miss us at all. The house was spotless and literally sparkled where Leigh Ann had been polishing. We were even greeted with a homemade meal and tiramisu after our long trip. It’s hard to overstate the gratitude that Carola and I feel toward Leigh Ann and Jonathan. We handed over our pets, our home, our vehicles, and our tools, and they cared for everything as though it were their own.
