Our little family could not be more grateful for Renee. We were lucky enough to have spent a day and half with Renee before we left our two cats, our home, our plants, and our bird sanctuary in her care. Our girls immediately took to her. During the 6 weeks that we were away, Renee sent periodic updates and pictures of our girls, letting us know that they were happy and healthy. They did not seem to miss us at all, which made us so very happy. We also received a letter from the city indicating that we had violated a code because our weeds were overgrown. The weeds they were referring to were the wildflowers that we had worked very hard to sow. Renee immediately called the officer to explain the situation and helped us gather pictures of our pollinator garden so that we could rebuke the charge. Finally, when we returned, our house was spotless. Everything was scrubbed and cleaned, and even our bed was made with fresh sheets. We really feel that we lucked out!

We had a lovely sit at Sama‘s and Wilhelm‘s place and a wonderful time with Lucy. They made sure we had everything we need and had great recommendations for places in the area. Lucy is super easy-going and it was great to see how she warmed up from day to day :) Communication was perfect, thank you again!

Star ratings don't always present the entire picture; many things enrich or may detract from a home/pet sit; and as sitters who have been in many homes and many countries I will try to share a little of that as some, such as Carol & George's offer more than what the 'star ratings' may suggest.

Probably foremost for many sitters will be the location & an island in the middle of the Columbia River is certainly fairly unique! For many it will be a serene peaceful and interesting location that also seems to moderate the typical SW WA, NW OR whether. As a 'flat' island you will find it easy for walking and biking, but being rural you must count on your own transport regardless, to any commercial resources -- all of which are available, but many are 5 miles or more away. Costal Astoria and the Megler Bridge, the longest continuous truss bridge in North America (over 4 miles) is an easy day trip, along with much more.

We quite enjoyed the small community atmosphere of a town remaking itself as industries change. The people were friendly, inviting and helpful to one another. There is still an active Community Newspaper--with good coverage of art, music, social and political events, and "old fashion" community gatherings;--even some 'famous' people in the region. And where else might you hear foghorns and watch large ships plying the river from your windows. There is a "beach" -- at low tide!

The home is an ever-growing, well-lived in farm home; both spacious and filled -- with so many books, music and art that you'll only be able to sample a tad during a sit of any duration. Internet and electrical were quite reliable. Lesley has asthma, so we did rely upon the heat pump and not the wood stove, should that be a factor for you.

Carol and George have certainly led interesting lives and we would have enjoyed time together, but even email was rewarding and timely when needed. Clearly they have a penchant for healthy products and cuisine and their kitchen is a wonderfully 'warm' place for creation -- everything you need is there, right down to the heated tile floor!

OH, you say this is a "pet-sit"? Well, yes -- one that is a breeze; some of them on the breeze--birds and feeders in abundance with the delights that come from that. And the four to six 'feral' cats are so well fed they mostly ignore the feathered friends. Critters at this point are a simple task, and save for Tommy (the old man of the crowd) they are not seeking, nor granting much intimate affection with their cook and bottlewasher.

I don't know, I'm not sure if C&G do -- how much of their mini-farm enterprises will continue; but that can open both opportunity and tasks that you may wish to explore depending on the seasons. In any case, you won't find any more considerate, generous and kind people to partner with in your next home/pet sit adventure.

We had the pleasure of house/pet sitting for Jeff and Nikki. They were the most welcoming and trusting hosts: very communicative, quick to reply, and easy-going!

We had a wonderful time with Keith and Jagger and they seemed to feel the same, because they stayed near us throughout the day and night. They both got excited when it was time to take walks and "treat" time; rested beside us on the couch while watching TV and protective when strangers (i.e., delivery person) come to the front door with a short-term barking session (lol).

This home is in one of the best locations we've experienced - just 3 blocks from the Hermosa Beach boardwalk. We even met some really friendly neighbors during our 10-day stay.

We would help out again if our schedules align and hope to remain in touch with such a cool couple!

Mary
It was great staying with Gracie for a long weekend! Mary made the house very comfortable and I LOVED to location being only 15 minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway and about 20 minutes from downtown Asheville. Gracie was so sweet once she warmed up to me and pretty low maintenance. I loved how she slept at my feet at night and followed me around the house. She’s great on a leash and has great recall too! I had a great time and hope to come back soon!

Brie, frank and Jeezy were fun and well behaved pets! Kacie and David’s home is beautiful - we had a very comfortable stay! They gave clear instructions and were quick to answer any questions when they popped up.

We would love to housesit for this family again and would highly recommend it!

Lisa
Lisa is the sweetest person ever! She gave me tons of great recommendations on what to do in the area since I was visiting from New York. The area is safe and beautiful. Every day I would walk & feed the pups, go out and do something fun, come back, feed and walk them again, and then go back out and do another activity. There was a bunch to do locally and a ton to do within an hour drive. Plenty of parks, hikes, museums, and shopping within 10-20 minutes from the home. It was truly a wonderful experience!
Molly and Lacey are such good girls. They are easy going and chill. Lisa will tell you that their diets are complicated, and there are a few components to remember for each meal, but it was so simple to me. Lisa showed me what to do and gave a very clear virtual house guide. Everything was labeled and organized when it came to meal time and it was such a pleasure to have these two pups with me on my solo trip.
The room that I stayed was immaculately clean and had everything that I needed- a bathroom, towels, microwave, mini fridge, coffee maker, desk, heaters, comfy bed.. it was perfect.
All-in-all I loved my time here and I would come back if I’m ever in the area again! Thank you Lisa!
