We had such a wonderful 2 weeks with Miska and Obi at Penny’s home. The animals are a delight to care for and Penny’s home is so comfortable in every way. I loved having such a well supplied kitchen where we could do most of our cooking while we were there. The town of Chatham is charming and within walking distance from the house. Penny is a very warm and welcoming person who made us feel at right home.
This was the third time we have done a house sit for Teta. This time they had another pup, Twiglet. It was a great pleasure looking after these two. Jumble is like a little playful human, understands and obeys but can still be mischievous. At every path junction he waits to see which way you want him to go. Twiglet follows him like her big brother but has her own character. Jumble always comes back to you when you call him and then Twiglet will follow him. There are the 7 sheep. All we needed to do was count them each day – they are in their own little paddock and they look after themselves. The location is great; next to the Roydon Woods nature reserve so plenty of quiet walking routes and there are cycle routes too. Brockenhurst and Lymington are both a short distance away where there are plenty of shops, cafes etc Teta has a comfortable flat for anyone who sits, separate from the main house. We’d be very happy to do another sit for Teta.
The owner has complained I don’t have a smartphone or use instant-messaging apps. On the contrary I do have a smartphone, but its whatsapp broke before this sit so we agreed I’d send SMS messages, which arrive just as quickly. I sent many, and I sent emails with photos of the cat. If using whatsapp is a requirement for a sit the owner needs to state this in the advertisement. A cleaner comes twice weekly whom I liked very much, but clearly she was instructed to inform the owner of everything I did, such as leaving a window open because of a bad smell of drains. As soon as the cleaner left I would receive a correctional email, like clock-work, from the owner - as if there was CCTV checking on me. The ethos of TH is exchange for mutual benefit. When I realised how I was being spied on I felt like leaving but of course I wouldn't, because the cat needed me. The drains in this flat smell bad, especially in the bathroom I had. Also the toilet seat was broken and uncomfortable. The owner seems to have expected me to be inside her flat 100% of the time. I was there 90% of the time, because I was studying, but (amazingly?) I was out sometimes. The owner arranged for deliveries without checking I could definitely be there to receive them beforehand. Since there was an alternate place for deliveries to be left - as is completely normal in London - I am surprised to be blamed. The owner didn’t manage to let me know correctly the (changing) times her cleaner and children were coming and going. I am quite adapable but didn't appreciate these mistakes. This owner should pay someone to be available 24/7 instead of trying to exploit an unpaid housesitter.
I very much enjoyed pet sitting for Lori. Lori was easy to communicate with and her home is very comfortable and clean. The apartment is in a very safe area with stores and everything you might need at walking distance. It has a quiet and peaceful atmosphere. Her kitty, Lulu, is shy but very sweet and I was happy to win her trust in such a short time. It was a pleasure looking after Lulu. 😻
Ash and Kirby are very sweet cats and we became friends immediately when I walked in! Kirby is friendly but likes to have his own space, whereas Ash will want to sit in your lap immediately. Ash has a mild condition that makes his nose run all the time, but he handles it himself and it didn’t require any extra work on my end to manage it. They are fed by an automatic feeder and have a litter robot and two regular litter boxes so caring for them was very simple. Caroline and Alex’s house is bright and beautiful and very comfortable, and it is located in a great neighborhood in the Mission district walking distance to many delicious restaurants and anything you might need. Caroline communicated with me quickly throughout her trip and made me feel welcome and comfortable. I would happily sit Ash and Kirby again!
I had an absolute lovely time looking after Bella. She was so cuddly and loving and it really made my stay amazing. I met Ciara the night before she left and she showed me everything I needed to know about the house and Bella which was great. Both Ciara and Bella were very welcoming and chatty and I felt very comfortable. Lots to see in Leeds and the surrounding area. Thanks so much!
