We knew that we would have a good experience with Carole & Ron from the moment we first had a video chat with them. They are very experienced house sitters and it showed in the questions they asked about our cats and our home. We were so fascinated by them that we invited them to arrive a day early so that we could all go out for lunch and then dinner to hear about their travel stories and share a few of our own. When we left, we felt very confident in our choice and took off on our trip with confidence that our dear kitties would be well cared for. We were not disappointed as Carole & Ron sent us photos and an update the very next day to let us know that all was well. During the next two weeks, we never had a moment of concern and fully enjoyed our vacation knowing that these seasoned sitters were both looking after our place and also enjoying themselves exploring our wonderful city of Philadelphia. We came home to two very happy cats, a clean house, and even a full bowl of fresh fruit on our kitchen counter. We would absolutely have Carole & Ron sit for us again and we wish them the very best of fun and exploration in their future adventures!
We met Cecily and Neil for a couple of hours before we departed for our long weekend and conversation rolled effortlessly! We were sorry we didn't have the time to get to know them better. Cecily and Neil were interested to learn about our two sweet moggies and how our home worked and we arrived home to the house exactly as it was when we left. We would be pleased to have them back.
Denali is a sweet young pup who loves her sniffy walks around the neighborhood and loves her food. This was a short sit (just 35 hours) and Denali warmed to me quickly, coming up for pets and scratches as well as following me as I moved room to room. She has some prey drive for the bunnies in the area so you need to have a firm hold on the leash for when she sees them, and at times she may pull. I kept kibble in my hand and easily redirected her attention for those times. We explored the wonderful neighborhood on numerous walks, there are trails and paths everywhere so I don't think we ever went the same way twice. In between walks Denali was chill, napping, or playing with her rope toy. Maya's home is spotless, full of light, and in a quiet area. The kitchen had everything I needed for meals, and the WiFi was strong. Maya quickly responded both while setting up the sit and while she was away. For my first sit with THS I got lucky with great homeowners and a cheery, happy dog.
I had a lovely experience with Millie and Hucks in Kensington, London. Hucks was easy to look after and quite entertaining :) the apartment was lovely, clean and cosy and I the most perfect location, just off Kensington High Street. Thank you Millie!
Lindsay and Mike greeted us warmly, as did Finnley. Lindsay showed us around the neighborhood where Finnley usually walks and all the places that welcome dogs. Lindsay explained clearly and and had a printed copy of Finnley’s daily routine. Finnley was such a lover and so easy to care for for. He loved his daily brushing and his walks. He was such a gentleman to walk and loved visiting people. Lindsay’s and Mike’s home for us was spotless and so so comfortable. The kitchen contained all the amenities (high quality) amenities to cook your meals. Home was within easy walking distance to shops, restaurants and pubs. Highly recommend this sit. I had a great time watching Whidbey, Honey,and Bo. They were well behaved dogs and I enjoyed our walks and sight seeing the island with them. Kirk and Barb were wonderful and the details about the house sit are listed accurately. I felt like I was on a fabulous vacation. I was extremely fortunate to have this dog sitting experience as my first one.
The location of this house sit in a Perth coastal suburb was terrific and made more so by the company of Mocha (a beautiful, affectionate people friendly dog who was a delight to be with) and Gromit (the white fluffball cat who loved coming in and going out and not necessarily by the pet flap). Central to everything Perth has to offer - the river, the beach, Perth city, Fremantle, Scarborough, shopping centres, transport, parks - the location is terrific. The area Gabbi and Paul live is quiet and the house is extremely comfortable and full of character. Extremely! We loved everything about our stay. Gabbi and Paul were friendly hosts and and made us feel feel very comfortable from the day we first met them and appreciative of our presence when they returned. We loved seeing the pets embrace them when they came home. Highly recommended sit. We look forward to the next time we are asked to return.
Annie and Zander are a friendly couple who kindly showed me the ropes and welcomed me with a sweet potato stew the night before they left. Despite vacationing in a time zone 13 hours away they were easy to reach and always promptly responded to my inquiries and updates. Maisy and her feisty daughter Fudge are two sweet and attentive doodles. We enjoyed many long walks in the park across the busy road and they were a pleasure to walk off lead. Maisy is a superstar in the park and was often greeted by name. If she did not know someone she would ensure they were friends before continuing on their way. She loves getting petted by everyone. Both girls always checked back with me and immediately came if I called them. We also enjoyed some runs along the beach. I was disappointed that not enough food was left for the two dogs for the duration of the sit. If for some reason the owner cannot get around to leaving enough food, then do leave some cash and instructions for the sitter on where to buy what food. I would never let your pets go hungry and will not ask you to refund me for their food, but it does not instill confidence when the owner leaves for three and a half weeks and does not ensure that their beloved pets are properly provided for. A basket with dog toys would also have been handy. I would have loved to give this housesit five stars and feel bad for giving my first non-five star review but I just did not feel comfortable in this home. It would not be fair towards other housesitters and all the other owners who have clean, well-maintained homes. I really hope the owners will consider a deep clean before they invite another sitter. The condition of the downstairs, especially the kitchen and bathroom, was grungy. One of the knobs kept falling off the oven, I could not get all the burners to work, and there was grease inside the oven and dog hair stuck on the oven knobs. The backyard boasted a collection of junk such as a rusty stove top, the carpet in the living room was smelly, and a coat of paint would have given the interior a new look. Fortunately the room I was assigned to had new carpet.. I will not bore you with further details and will leave the rest to your imagination. So in a nutshell: nice owners, cute dogs, but a house I was most relieved to leave.
