In all our years of using Trusted we've never had such a disappointing and disrespectful sit, and we've never had to give a bad review until now.

We arrived home to our keys having been left under the mat, which we explicitly asked Kelly to not do. As we opened the front we noticed that lights (including in David's office, a room that she was told was off-limits) and a fan had been left on, shutters were up, and everything was unlocked including the front balcony door (a sliding glass door) which was left open.
We sent Kelly a message and she said that she had left the door open because the cats liked to be out on the balcony, but the doors had been left open just to allow our portable AC unit to be vented, which meant that the cats would not have been able to go through the door. This was not a good start, and was just one of the lies that she has told us about the state our apartment was left in.

We then noticed a really strong, horrid smell, and we realised that someone had been smoking and vaping in the apartment. The back balcony was filthy with ash, including on our daughter's deflated paddling pool and the washing machine. One of our wooden garden chairs on the balcony had been broken, which Kelly claimed was already broken before she came... It wasn't, and we certainly would not have left sharp broken wood where our daughter could come in contact with it!
Kelly then told us that her father had been staying in the apartment as well, and that he was a drinker and heavy smoker. At no point previously had Kelly asked us whether her father could stay.
While moving our bed back into its usual position, we found a cork and wrapper (looked to be from a cava bottle) and two disposable vapes. These were found by Beth, while our 2 and a half year old daughter was nearby. Since talking more with Kelly, she has informed us that there were four disposable vapes in total, although we have yet to find the other two and are very worried what might happen if our daughter finds one before we do!
(It's also worth noting that later in the evening that we arrived home, we realised the smell in the apartment was of pineapple, and one of the two vapes we found was pineapple flavoured.)
The floor, our kitchen waste bin, and our portable AC unit in the living room all had a sticky residue on them. Kelly then told us that she had used an air freshener, although the can that she indicated she used is actually spray wood polish. Hopefully spraying wood polish around the inlet of our (quiet new) portable AC unit will not have damaged it.

Our daughter's duvet had been left in the living room with stains on it. To find this duvet they would have needed to dig through drawers in one of the rooms (a walk-in wardrobe, but we mostly use it as a storage room). We also found a couple of cans of beer in the walk in wardrobe, resting against Beth's wedding dress that was hanging up. One of our food bowls had been used as an ashtray.

The day before we returned, Kelly told us that she had accidentally cut herself on a tin of cat food without realising, and had then bled on our bed sheets and was unable to wash it out. To be honest, based on how pink the stains on our bed sheet (and the fabric part of fold-up barriers we have on our bed for when our daughter sleeps in it), we still suspect that it was actually vape juice. But we did find two toilet rolls left in our bathroom that clearly had blood on them. Kelly told us that she works as a nurse, so we would hope that she understands the dangers of leaving biohazard waste in places that are accessible to young children.

One of our cats needs daily medication, which we give him by crushing up the required dosage of two different types of pills. We crush the pills up in the food bowl before adding the food to mix it together. However Kelly (or whoever was actually staying) had been crushing up the pills on the top of our microwave oven, and there was pill powder left on the microwave that had also fallen into the door seal.

The level of disrespect and dishonesty from Kelly has been incredible. We would not recommend her as a sitter to anyone! This is our home, our safe space, and she took the absolute micky while staying here.

To top it all off, we must mention how our two cats were when we got home. We have had sitters in the past who didn't arrive when they said they would, or left the apartment tidy but not particularly clean, but our priority is our cats, and so as long as they were happy when we got home, we have been fine with letting those kinds of things slide. Usually, when we get home our cats do their own thing, and sometimes seem annoyed with us that the people who were staying have left as they were getting extra special attention!
However this time around, our cats seemed stressed and anxious, and wanted lots of attention from us. And to be honest, in the very few photos of them that Kelly sent while we were away (which each time we had to prompt her for), the cats didn't appear to be particularly happy. This is in stark contrast to previous sits, where we have been happily flooded with lovely photos and videos, making it very clear that our boys were being very well looked after.

So, even if we ignore the disrespect shown to our home, Kelly still failed in the primary requirement of making sure that our cats were well looked after. She has been the worst sitter we have had by a long shot.

Robert & Amy
Amy & Rob couldn’t have been more endearing and kind if they tried. Wonderful people who welcomed me with open arms arms and made communication easy. Their home gifted me with a guest room and my own bathroom. It was warm and so inviting. BEAUTIFUL!! We had an unexpected situation at the start of the pet sit when one of the pups had a medical emergency. Yet, Amy & Rob was just a phone call away, supportive and understanding.
They adopted Whiskey Girl just 6 months prior to my visit and I have to say - they really lucked out. She is the sweeeeeeetest dog you will ever meet. So well behaved, empathetic, patient, and very very chill.
I really fell in love with this sweet girl and am so glad she found two “hoo-mans” who love her so much.
I would pet sit for this incredible family again in a heartbeat. If you have the opportunity - count yourself lucky. #happytails

John
Staying in the lovely house of John and Wendy was like guest starring in 'Escape to the country'. What a valley and what a location ín that valley! But the best thing about this sit are absolutely the sweetest dogs. They are very fond of each other and were immediately okay with me being 'in charge now'. They love to go out for walks but even more so to cuddle up on the couch at night. John and Wendy were superwelcoming and very flexible. John picked me up from the train station even though I had half a day's delay and they had to leave early next morning. John's brother told me all the ins and outs about the animal care the next morning so that was perfect in this situation. Unfortunately we couldn't get to know each other better over dinner, which John made excellently. But we texted quite a lot beforehand so it felt like visiting family already. And during the sit they were only a whatsapp away.
The dogs and I, and later my friend who joined me (she was very welcome too) made beautiful walks through the stunning countryside in the Hope Valley. We absolutely hope to return sometimes when there are more leaves on the trees ect.
After the walks we used to cuddle up with Winston, who wasn't allowed on the couch in evenings because then Reg would scare him off. But they are all absolutely lovely to care for. If you ever get the change to sit for this lovely couple in Hope Valley, grab it!

Ashley
It was such a treat house sitting for Ashley and tending to Leo!
He is such a good pup.
She left detailed instructions, was available if I needed, her home was inviting and I felt safe, comfortable and secure. So far my favorite house sit if I am completely honest.

Angela
This was a short but super sweet sit for Angela & Mike, with cats Licorice & Taffy. Angela's a pro...very organized with excellent instructions and the house was immaculate, comfortable & very easy to enjoy. The cats were both quite shy & elusive but started to warm up on day 2. Mainly we made sure they were eating properly & relaxed by keeping a very quiet home...easy to do, by reading books & enjoying the fabulous view!

Highly recommend & would love to be back.

Every aspect of this visit was amazing, Camilla and her family have a beautiful home in a great location. Pickles, pusskin and dotty were a pleasure to look after. We would definitely love to come back and mind this beautiful home and the family’s lovely pets in the future. Thank you! ☺️

Ruth and George are just phenomenally kind and thoughtful people. They were so welcoming with how they introduced us to their home and made sure we felt free to use things in the kitchen. Their cats are absolutely adorable. There is easy bus access to the main town and train stations so those without cars will manage fine. We loved our stay here! Highly recommended.
