Rimke
Rimke was such a wonderful hostess, with a beautiful zen home and garden. One of the most special gardens too. Pepijn and Hugo were very sweet and I enjoyed looking after them. Loved the area, and locals... super friendly. All in all, felt very welcome here. Thanks again Rimke. I highly recommend this sit.

Allyson
We had such a great time with the doggos Sami and Rosco. Allyson and Bart where truly the nicest people I have ever met. Their home is lovely and in a great neighborhood. They were very kind and picked is up at the airport and then dropped us off at the train (and paid the tickets) to get back to the airport. They left us info on restraunts, stores and mountain day trips. We fell in love with their dogs and truly bonded with them. We would love to sit for them again in the future.

Loretta
Bogey and Hank are very sweet and cuddly dogs. Hank loves to sit on your lap and Bogey would do the same if he could. If you pet Hank, then Bogey would put his face by your hands as to ‘fight’ for the attention. Bogey listens well which is helpful given how strong he is. The exception is when he sees a squirrel or rabbit outside, so Scot and I walked him with a ‘Gentle Lead Collar’ and kept him close while walking in the middle of the street. Then as we finished the morning walk, we would let him off the lead in Loretta’s dad’s yard where we would play fetch. Hank is cute but doesn’t listen very well, so he needs to be kept on the leash always as otherwise he runs off. Loretta calls him “the escape artist”. We managed to teach him a couple of things before leaving. He is ‘bribable’ with a treat. Walking Hank is a bit difficult because he pulls on the leash. It was nice that the two of us walked both dogs together as it was much more manageable, but doable if needed by yourself.

Joey was super fun and talkative which sometimes meant, per instruction from Loretta and Gary, we put a sheet over his cage so we could have quiet time for a conference call if needed. He is very low maintenance and just needs fresh water every day, a scoop of food, a peanut for a treat and he likes ‘conversation’. His eyes would dilate, and he’d show us his beautiful feathers when happy. We changed the cage every 2 days (new paper on bottom).

Overall, the pets (or zoo as Loretta refers to it 😊) are easy to watch as the dogs are wonderful characters and only need one walk a day (for Hank to do his business) and can otherwise be left by themselves for a while and for “#1s” go in the backyard on a leash attached to a tree. Bogey likes to run hard and play with a ball. He listens well and loves the exercise. We do recommend dog treats to keep him on task and coming back quickly.

The house is in a very safe neighborhood a mile off the beach. All the neighbors that we met were very friendly and willing to help if needed. Loretta and Gary let us use their e-bikes for rides down to the beach, which was great. Loretta had all pet and house instructions ready, showed us around the day before and had the house all clean for us. She was always responsive via text for any questions. They are wonderful folks!

Aslıhan
Hocam and Bambi were two puppies full of energy that now have a special place in my heart. I had no problem feeding them, they really love the fresh food prepared for them. When the portions Aslihan had prepared finished, I cooked some more as she instructed me. It took time, but it was nice to see them happy to eat it. As it was their first time away from their pet parent and the street walks were paused because Hocam was in heat and Bambi had not finished his vaccines, the first three weeks were very challenging to manage their energies. Aslihan made the rooftop available before leaving so I could use it to play with them. As puppies they were peeing and pooping anywhere for two weeks, even peeing on the couch, which I needed to wash several times besides the cleaning routine of the house. After I started the walks with them, most of the time they had a good behavior, when they started to push or jump on each other, I just shorten the leash then they walked normal again. With other dogs was ok as well, specially Bambi wants to say hi to everybody, and he loves children. They love grass and shadow and it is so funny to see them playing with a wood stick or a piece of rope.

We had a wonderful time in Bern with Giove. Lovely residential area not far from old city Bern, comfortable living space, nice backyard, beautiful walking paths nearby. The hosts made us feel at home and maintained clear communication. Giove is a friendly, sweet, and attention-loving pup. Make sure to keep a firm hold of the leash while walking as Giove is strong. While he was often spooked by wind or unknown sounds, he was easy to care for and coped well all things considered. Definitely would recommend this house/dog sit.
