I've had wonderful housesitters through zeewoi on many previous occasions, but Mel and Peter far exceeded all my expectations.
My cat, Stella is an outdoor cat and has always been somewhat antisocial. As soon as I left she started peeing in the house. Mel and Peter dealt with everything - set up a litter box for Stella, made friends with her and sent photos of her sitting happily on a chair with Mel - much closer than she's ever sat with me!
My little dog, Daisy was recovering from back surgery and really needed special attention and monitoring. I just can't say enough about how much they loved and cared for Daisy. She was on post- operative pain killers and developed an anal gland infection which involved several trips to the vet, and constant monitoring of her progress. I've come home to a house that is cleaner than I left it, but, more important to me, I've come home to a healthier, happier dog .
Upon my return, entirely my fault, I was not able to connect with them in person as I arrived home a day later than anticipated. Mel and Peter had another commitment so they had to leave before I arrived. We had a video chat to go over things but the icing on the cake was a "welcome home" email, with a full report on everything - the minor repairs they'd taken care of, the pets' status, the list of all the items that had had a "final" clean (including scrubbing the front step!) . It included this list of food they had prepared for me:
Salad (refrigerator) with dressing on top.
Butternut squash soup (refrigerator).
Cheese plate (refrigerator), crackers in pantry.
Honey wheat bread freshly made (bread box)
Steak pie (freezer top shelf) bake at 400 degrees for 1 hour from frozen. Cover with foil for first 35 minutes,
remove foil for last 25 minutes. The mango chutney in the refrigerator goes great with it.
Thai red curry carrot coconut soup (freezer top shelf - best to defrost overnight).
Seafood chowder (freezer top shelf )

Without a doubt, if you're lucky enough to have Mel and Peter offer to housesit for you, I recommend that you snap up their offer. Housesitters just don't come any better. I wish I'd had the chance to get to know the better.
Susan and Kurt communicated well before and during the sit. Both Phoebe and our home were well cared for. We would be happy to have them again in the future.
Is it better to board cats or leave at home?
