David
David and Elaine were warm and welcoming. David made us a splendid dinner and showed us the ropes. Elaine got home first and gave us a warm send off. We are so happy we got to meet them both.

The house is stunning, with attention to detailed elegant decor, it is comfortable (and quite spacious). We really enjoyed staying in The Old Manse.

The location is BREATHTAKING. From the views out the windows to every walk we went on from the house- there is so much lovliness in The Glen that it was just an absolute pleasure and a privilege to get to live there for a week in such a beautiful location.

We looked after (and fell in love with) three dogs during our stay. Bob, Vegas and Nancy. Bob is the only permanent resident of the house (Nancy and Vegas belong to David's daughters and were just there for the sit as the family was traveling together).

Bob is an older girl who acts ornery at first but is a big softie under it all. She is quite spry for her age but does need frequent potty breaks and has accidents occasionally. She is a dream to walk, but prefers to walk without the other dogs.

Vegas is a beautiful golden retriever in his prime. Healthy, energetic and just wants to please. He will stare at you with the most beautiful brown eyes. He pulls minimally and really tries to "be a good dog"...adorable!

Nancy, at 9 months old, is the baby and is still learning. She is a sweetheart who loves nothing more than running, swimming and playing with Vegas.

Let me emphasize we ADORE all three dogs and absolutely do NOT regret this sit. However, we think it might be more ideal in the future for both the dogs and the sitters to have their own sits in their own homes for multiple reasons as listed below.

Because of ticks, a muddy pond, and baby rabbits in the garden, each dog could only be let outside on a lead one at a time to go potty, which proved to be quite time consuming. It was tick season, so the dogs had to be checked for ticks after each walk (minimum 2 walks daily). Checking through long luxurious golden retriever hair (that was sometimes wet from swimming in the loch) for ticks was difficult and not a fast process (but we found the ticks and were able to get them off, usually before they attached). Nancy (the puppy) does lunge and pull on walks which requires extra attention and strength to withstand. The dogs are allowed only in the kitchen during the day, and even with walks, the goldens got quite restless and wanted to play-fight. As Bob is small and elderly we had to be careful they didn't injure her when they would get "playful". Bob clearly wasn't very happy sharing her domain with the visiting dogs. Each dog is used to being an only dog in their home and is on a slightly different internal schedule. Two of the dogs had minor medical issues that required treating.

None of these things alone is a big deal but all together it was A LOT of work even for a strong sitter couple like us. Between the MANY potty breaks, medication, feedings three times a day, washing the bowls after feeding, brushing, walking, checking for ticks, refereeing, and providing loving affection for all of them- we didn't have much extra time and we were quite tired at the end of every day. Which isn't to say we didn't enjoy it, because we did! However, we don't think we'd take on all three dogs again, as we truly feel it would have been better for each of them (as an only dog) to have individualized care in their own homes. The margin for error, risk for sitter and dogs is much higher as a group.

We have sat 3 dogs before, but they were bonded packs at their own home (not from different households). This was our first sit with dogs from different households and we were surprised at what a difference there was. If you do take on the multiple dogs from different households just be aware that they will require significantly more time and attention.

This sit with just Bob would be an absolute dream sit and would serve Bob and a sitter much better, especially if the sitter is a single person. Finally, we cannot say enough good about David, Elaine, the family and all the sweet dogs.

Ben & Kelly
Kelly and Ben were super welcoming, generous and helpful, responding quickly and thoroughly to questions I had both before and during the sit. Huxley the hound is a real character, quite energetic and good on walks - good recall and sociable with other dogs and owners. He loves to carry the largest stick he can find! The cats were friendly and no trouble. I would highly recommend this sit.

Cassandra
Thank you so much Cass for letting us experience those two weeks at the lake with Mimik and Vasilisa!
We had such a great time!

The house had everything we needed and is exactly what we like: simple, cozy, small, quiet. Cass explained everything before leaving and was easily reachable even if far away.
It took a few days for the pets to get used to us. After that it was so nice to hang out with them, inside mostly on the bed with Vasilisa and while walking in the woods with Mimik. We loved our walks out there and were so happy to see that she was having fun!
We did get attached really quickly!

We also really enjoyed the views on the lake, paddling, canoeing, discovering the area around... It is such a great place you have!

Thanks again, we wish you all the best :)

Penny
We had a wonderful week in the New Forest looking after Penny and Nigel's lovely animals. The listing was thorough and accurate, with all the information we could have asked for to ensure proper care of their various pets, including tips for beautiful walks in the area. We were made to feel so welcome by the family, sharing a meal with them the night before their departure, and they were super accessible and available to us for any questions we had during our stay. More than just a housesit, we felt at home. We would absolutely come and stay again- I'm already missing Monica's cuddles, and my husband keeps saying how much he misses Erik!
