Claire is a wonderful person, with an amazing personality, easy to talk to, and has endless hospitality. Claire was very kind to pick me up from the local train station upon my arrival, and even though I arrived a day early, she gave me the home's master suite, and took one of the guest rooms herself. And she bought me a load of groceries, too. Leytonstone is a nice residential area on the east side of London, with many shops, restaurants, pubs and parks within easy walking distance, as are the overground and underground train stations for an easy journey into the city. And the very large Epping Forest, where I took the dogs every day for their walk, is also just a few minutes away. The Coach House, Claire's home, is an oasis. Her remodel work is top notch, the back garden is lush and green, and her unique decor is like being in an art deco museum. Claire's three dogs - Frankie, Sammie, and Saffie - were, once they got to know you and accept you, quite affectionate. All three are former rescues, and still have some of those personality quirks, but they are all wonderful dogs. Samuel J. Dog may be the happiest dog ever; his tail never stops wagging with delight. And sometimes he will go half way up the stairs and lean out and over to give you a greeting as you pass by. Side-Eye Saffie is still very timid and is not very comfortable with you approaching her, but is quite comfortable approaching you for some scratches. Even cuter is when she turns and rubs her bum on your leg telling you to "scratch me here, scratch me here." The leader of the pack is Fantastic Frankie. He is very laid back dog, despite the amusing "worried look" he is always expressing. Frankie and Sammie accepted me almost immediately upon my arrival, and Saffie had warmed up to me by the second day, which was very nice. All three dogs will greet you every morning, and upon your return home from being away, with a round of "hello barks", and are then overwhelmed with excitement to be released into the back garden. It was quite easy to walk all three dogs at the same time on their leashes, and all were amazingly well behaved on their walk towards other dogs and humans. I enjoyed their company and entertainment very much. Thank you, Claire, for your generous hospitality and trusting me to care for your beautiful home and delightful pets; I will treasure it always.
Lily and Scott were the most hospitable. I am grateful that I was allowed the opportunity to sit for their sweet cats. Archie is the older one and he is so loving and Biko is the playful one since he is still a young kitten. These two stole my heart and now I want to get a cat for myself. Lily and Scott’s home was well equipped with everything you need from making a simple breakfast to complex, creative cuisines. Bed was comfortable and I felt very welcome into their home. Hope to sit for them again in the future!
My stay at Leslie’s place was even easier than I expected, Ale & Tony her two pets were the most chill guys I’ve looked after. I’d come back anytime.
Susan & Nicks lovely home is conveniently located on the outskirts of Ross on Wye, an easy fifteen mins walk to the town centre, bus stop right near the house but a car allows one to explore the numerous local beauty spots & places of interest, a bit further afield. Our hosts made us feel at home, right away, with a welcome cup of tea & a thorough review of Teddy’s foodstuff & feeding routines & introduced us to the two bunnies, in their des res, in the garden. It was so useful to take Teddy out on a walk & show us his favourite trail, through the potato field & into the woods. Teddy is a big strong dog but good as gold to walk. He doesn’t pull, he’s obedient, comes when called, good with people & other dogs. He has one small weakness - he doesn’t like putting on his harness. Strange quirk - because he so loves going out for a walk. But we found the secret - just go really slowly & gently, putting the initial piece over his nose & he responds so appreciatively. Like all labs, he loves his food, even with his medicine hidden in it. I was very impressed with Teddy’s responses to my asking him to ‘wait’, whilst I went through doorways first, whilst I prepared his food etc. Essential with a dog of his size. A gentle giant. Obviously well trained. The bunnies just needed some food & hutch cleaning, as well as moving their pen, a little bit, each day, to allow them access to some new, fresh, grass. At first Teddy got excited & barked a lot at the rabbits but with some gentle persuasion, became more tolerant of them, once I twigged that it was the lettuce leaves etc that I had put in their pen, that was part of his problem! We loved our long walks with Teddy & our time playing with him in the garden. Never tires of his ‘tug o war’ We fell in love with all three of them & felt so sad when we had to leave them, eventually. I would highly recommend this sit & hope you enjoy it, as much as we did. Susan & Nick & their three lovely teenagers are easy going, relaxed, lovely hosts. Thank you so much for inviting us to your delightful household. Mary & James
