Bruce and Louise are nice people and my neighbours liked them.

They did declare themselves as non smokers, but Louise does smoke. That wasn't a problem to me ,but it may be to other people, but she didn't smoke in the house, she only smokes whilst walking the dogs.

However - I have to be honest, I had major reservations about leaving for my trip, as I didn't know if they'd be able to cope with my dogs, even though I chose them as they had large dog experience.
My German Shepherd puppy can be a bit full on at times, but she's only 10 months old.
I was very glad -and relieved to say my dogs were fine when I got back though.

I had invited Bruce and Louise to stay for a few days prior to my holiday as I had never left my German Shepherd before, not for even one night.

I thought they'd be able to see some places locally as they intended to have days out whilst here, before being responsible for my pets -and that my pets would be comfortable with them coming and going before my holiday, as I was going away for a month. And also it'd save them paying for a hotel.

It didn't work out that way ,as although they'd purchased a car in advance from this area, there was a problem getting insurance which in hindsight should have been in place before arriving in the UK.
I felt put in a position, as unexpectedly I was asked if I could help them pay for it until they could arrange payment from Canada, but as I'm on my own, I was unable to.

I did ask for lots of updates on my pets, but apart from a few messages and a few photos actually from them, it was me asking on most days, if the pets were ok.

I think they might have found my dogs to be more hard work than they expected, which is fine.

But I got back to find that Bruce had bought one of those prong collars for my 10 month old German Shepherd puppy. She doesn't need that.
She walks fine for me. I can manage her and I'm 65.
And he didn't ask my permission to do this- because he'd have known I'd say no , so he just went ahead and did it anyway.
I was really unhappy about it  when he showed me when I got back, but I didn't want to create any conflict.

I have since got more annoyed about it by the day- and wish I had said something.
Fortunately there seems to be no damage to her- as this thing is really sharp!
He offered to help me to get in on her as said she doesn't like getting it on -and I said no.

She was never going to have that on again -and I dread to think of the stress she has felt each time she's gone for a walk, as it probably took 2 of them to get it on her.

I know, and understand, however that these things are not banned in some countries. But if I'd wanted her to wear one, she'd have had one already.

I'd travelled from Australia on 3 flights non stop, with very little sleep and I was very tired and despite me letting them know what time I was landing- and again giving them an update on my ETA when i got picked up- I got in to find them not ready to handover and leave.
There were dirty dishes which were obviously not from that morning, which I ended up doing- and id just walked through the door from all of that travelling.

They left the house without a backward glance at my dogs .

And the house was definitely not given back to me the way they found it when they arrived -and I spent the next 2 full days cleaning and their bedding hadn't been washed either.

The dogs were very dirty when I got back , I'm not sure how, as they are lead walked and were groomed just prior to Bruce and Louise's arrival.

This was the first time that Bruce and Louise had sat for zeewoi I understand, so may not have realised the expectations.
But it's made me very anxious about going away and leaving my pets again.

Karlien was an absolutely fantastic house/dog sitter - we couldn't have asked for anyone better!
She was highly responsive from our first interaction. While we were away, Karlien gave us regular updates on our 3 dogs and we could tell she was an animal lover.
She was very self-sufficient and reliable, a delight to deal with and nothing was too much trouble.

We came home to 3 very happy, content well cared for dogs and a very clean and tidy home - she went above and beyond and we would have no hesitation recommending Karlien to anyone looking for a wonderful pet/house sitter.
We hope that Karlien will be happy to look after our boys/home again in the future and can't fault her at all!
