So much to say about this sit! Lucinda, the host, is an incredibly warm, welcoming person, as well as a talented painter. She and her family live in a cosy home with a BEAUTIFUL back garden. Lucinda thoughtfully left a bit of food in the fridge for me, and provided directions to the closest grocery store, several nearby sites worth seeing, and of course the best dog walks! I absolutely fell in love with Sybil, who is an incredibly adorable, well-behaved pup. She knows her routine: a short walk up the street early in the morning and then again in the evening. In between, Sybil likes the longest walk (or two!) you can give her! These long walks are her very favorite thing, and she'll chase tennis ball after tennis ball, FLYING over the nearby fields, which are beautiful. Once she's had enough, she's content to walk along beside you—there's a wonderful river path near the house—carrying one of her balls in her mouth :) In the evenings, Sybil is content to curl up beside you while you watch tv, or sit with you if you're reading or spending time on your laptop. She's the sweetest, sweetest little dog <3 <3 <3 Petal the cat is more aloof. You'll probably only see her at mealtimes! Other than that, you may see her in the night on the end of your bed—if Sybil isn't there first :) Sadly, Bramble, the older dog, passed away before I arrived. And while I think Sybil was probably missing the older pup, she seemed very happy with the love and attention I gave her—and of course the long walks! I recommend this sit 100% and hope to see Sybil and her family again! On a more personal note: I had an issue with my family and travel plans. My son, who was supposed to go to Ireland, fell ill. Lucinda was incredibly kind, inviting me to bring him to along to her home. She was just lovely about the change of plans, sending me a link for a nearby doctor. Lucinda, I'll always remember your warmth and kindness! In conclusion: If you want a sit that feels like home, and a pup that you'll love like your own, this is the sit for you! <3
We followed on the housesit, for 5 days, from Christina who left the morning of our afternoon arrival. Unfortunately we never got to meet Bridget or Peter either, as we had to leave before they returned from their holiday. Bridget was very well organised with the logistics of the changeover and her cleaner had prepared the house for our arrival. It was spotless, warm and very inviting. We have to agree with other house sitters that Ochre is adorable, a beautiful, affectionate young dog with eyes that could melt your heart. She was very excited and slightly stressed at our arrival, which is understandable considering she had never met us before and she was alone in the house. We felt we bonded with her quite quickly and within 24 hours she was responding well to our commands. Our elderly Springer spaniel was with us and Ochre was quite happy with this arrangement, particularly if she could manage a snuggle in Mollys bed. We found Ochre very well behaved in the house, however she is full of boundless energy when outside, and she definitely needs to be let off the lead when it is safe for her to run. She is a typical working Cocker and loves nothing more than to disappear into the undergrowth hunting out prey. We were used to this behaviour, having had a young Springer with similar traits. Ochre will respond to commands and return but only if fairly close by and this was a problem that we had no knowledge of, before meeting Ochre. She is obsessively prey driven and once she has a scent nothing will entice her back until she is ready. Walking areas need to be selected carefully to keep Ochre safe from running into a road. Beaches are excellent and I would highly recommend West Wittering out of season for a good, stress free walk. Ochre is now a young dog with specific needs that need careful management as well as sitters that are fully informed of the behaviour of a working Cocker. Do not be fooled by those soulful eyes, there is another side of Ochre to explore. Bless her, we did fall in love with her though!
I had a lovely time with Wyatt, Henry and Simon just outside of Victoria in the Colwood area. Carol and Roy were welcoming and provided me with all the information I needed to make my stay comfortable and enjoyable. Carol is a great communicator and responded to any of my queries quickly and positively. Many lovely walks nearby and so much to discover all around the island within a short drive. Thanks so much Carol and Roy for being such gracious hosts.
Steve was a great host! He explained everything very clearly and gave us a tour. Nari was such a sweet pup, she was always where ever we are. She was so gentle and sweet to our little baby girl. We loved playing with her and taking her on walks! The home was very clean and spacious.
