It was a great pleasure to be a house sitter for Helen, as her house was immediately on a 25 minute bus route to Oxford centre and the station. Helen was very helpful in assisting me work my way by bus to her home. From her home it was easy to travel to see the wonderful colleges and properties, and the Botanical Gardens were a great experience. The dog, Socs, was adorable and placid, and loved being in company but equally didn’t mind being left behind to dream on his chair. He was the sweetest of characters. He was obedient on the lead and well trained. The cat was no problem. Helen had a toddler and a kitchen ceiling that gave her no chance to relax, or plan and pack for her holiday in peace, so finding items and using white goods I needed was not always easy, but I am confident that Helen is the sort of person who would have been completely on top of things if the days were longer…………….She was helpful when asked for locations of items, and generous with the food stuffs that she had salvaged from the kitchen and offered to us. I have to say I didn’t actually meet her, but given that, I would say that she is a trusting house owner who lets you get on with the tasks and is grateful for your input. Thank you so much, Helen for letting me stay !
We were delighted when Gillian and Richard accepted our application for this, our first, sit with Trusted House Sitters. We found it to be the most positive, relaxed and enjoyable introduction to THS that we could have wished for. Excellent communications from the outset: prompt/efficient , friendly and cheerful. Gill had answered nearly all our questions before we arrived. Kindly, she provided a range of contacts for friends and neighbours should we need them whilst she and Ric were away. East Coombe, their thoughtfully restored thatched cottage is in a delightful location down a valley just outside Chagford within its own fields and woods with a bridleway up to the moor. Long lane down to the house where several pairs of tiny wrens nest in the stone walls. Cosy and comfortable inside. Stunning views all round. Paved area to sit out for breakfast in the early morning sunshine. Garden table and chairs outside the patio doors for dinner under the Midday sun. Lavender lined 'Sunset Garden' where we watched the deer in the distance from a wooden seat each evening. Idyllic in every respect. Gill and Ric welcomed us warmly on our arrival then showed us round their tranquil home and lovely gardens. We met the dog, horses and sheep. No sign of the farm cats. After a cup of tea and a chat, we headed out through their ancient broadleaved woodland for a tour of Suki's favourite shorter walks. Gill gave us clear instructions on how to find the longer routes and where there might be traffic. She explained all Suki's puppy training so far as well as the specific commands she uses so that we could maintain continuity and endorse all the 'house rules'. Suki's recall is excellent when out of sight. She responds immediately to her whistle. Gill takes Suki with her when out riding. Sometimes Suki chose not to come close enough for us to put her on a lead when we were joining the smaller, local lanes. Possibly, she thought we were playing a game. Therefore, we walked her on a lead at the times where there might be traffic and no physical barrier such as a field gate or stile before the roads to ask her to sit. Suki revelled in being fussed/congratulated whenever she sat at a field gate, for her lead or before her food. Suki was sweet company in the house. Followed us about and sat at our feet beneath the table. Chats when she's eaten her food or wants to be stroked. Suki loves other dogs and wags happily (thoughtfully) when approaching them. She gets on well with the horses; they like to greet her and have her around in their paddock. She's still learning to 'be gentle' with the farm cats who joined us on the sofa in the evenings. Suki was inquisitive about the sheep and joined us watching them attentively when we checked them in their field each morning and evening. We had a wonderful week out walking Suki every morning and afternoon. Up on the moor. Along the river. Into the local National Trust woods. Paddling in the rivers and streams. Lazing round the gardens. Hanging out with the horses and snuggling up with the cats. Pottering around indoors. Lots of drizzle. Stretches of sunshine. All tranquil and restorative. Gill kept in touch with our (few) queries during the week. She then sent us updates on travel times home so that we could coincide our departure time to ensure that Suki was left for a short a time as possible having come into season on our last day. Jonathan and I left East Coombe feeling rested and content. We're beyond delighted to be going back next month to see Suki and The Farm Cats again. We commend this sit highly to other Trusted House Sitters. It is testimony to the reciprocal arrangement that THS facilitates between Trusted Home/Pet Owners and Trusted Guest Sitters. With our grateful thanks to Gillian and Richard for their generosity in genuinely making their beautiful home available to us as 'our own' whilst looking after their team of much cared-for animals.
We had a great time in Cathy and Nick's place. The pictures only give away a fraction of it's authenticity and beauty, it has a good feel :-) which was enhanced by the way we were warmly welcomed by this lovely, hospitable couple . Both of us being quite chatty made us connect easily and we enjoyed a first pleasant evening together over a meal and a drink. Being showed around the house, talking about Cleo's habits and character, giving us loads of information about the region that we were going to discover. Cleo was around all the time, checking out the newbies and giving us her approval. She's so easy to look after. She asks what she wants..food, a pet, to be brushed, to play..She can be quiet,; just relaxing...but also very active. When that playful energy arises her fake animals all of a sudden become very real and alive :-D :-D It was lovely seeing her having a blast!! The region to us was faboulous, the small hidden hamlets that would pop up as we drove around, the friendliness of the people, the simple but tasty meals they served almost everywhere...and we were lucky with the weather ;-) So, Cathy and Nick, thanks again for the opportunity you gave us to look after Cleo and your lovely house. It was a real pleasure meeting two beautiful people! a warm hug to you and Cleo from us!
We had a wonderful time housesitting for Chris and Kallie in San Francisco. Fredella and Maxima are affectionate, happy, and agreeable dogs. They are easy to walk, and a pleasure to hang out with. Chris and Kallie have a lovely home in a nice neighborhood and a fantastic location—close to the beach, shopping, and EV charging stations. Their instructions were clear, and the communication was perfect. Their place had everything we needed for a nice, relaxing stay. We would definitely recommend this housesit.
What a pleasure to have met Dominique and her furry friend. We were very comfortable in her lovely home, and communication was fast and straight forward. Zephyer was so well trained and had a wonderful, kind personality. Would love to return . Thankyou Dominique and Zephyer. Mary and Peter Oct 2023
Everything about this sit was wonderful. Susan was very communicative up front, left very clear instructions, and we met the day before for a very thorough walk-through and to meet Bruno and Max. The house is beautiful with great views of Deer Valley Resort and fantastic sunsets. Bruno is a very large dog, but totally loveable, stays close to you, well mannered for a 16 month old puppy, and actually easy to walk for his size. Max is a very fun dog, also likes to stay close to you, great personality and again, easy to walk. I definitely would like to do this sit again.
