We had a great week looking after Penny and Rocky over New Year’s Eve. Leslie and Ross welcomed us in their comfortable, typical Dutch home.

Penny and Rocky are great company and we had fun looking after them. Rocky is a gentle giant. He’s big, easy going and relaxed. Penny has lots of energy and needs some attention during the walks. We took her on longer walks to help her release her energy.

The area is lovely, with many options for long walks to the beach or through urban areas. There are lots of small shops and bakeries nearby and a bigger supermarket around the corner.

Leslie and Ross made sure we had everything we needed to take care of the dogs, and even left us some wine. Thanks for having us!

I loved this sit for Jon and Cathy! They are both great, very friendly, down to earth people! I went ahead of the sit to meet them and Jasmine. They warmly welcomed me into their home. By their words and actions they made it clear that they truly wanted me to make myself at home and enjoy my time there. I surely did!
Their sweet Jasmine kitty is an older “take care of herself” kinda gal! She comes and goes as she pleases, never goes far from home. She will meet you in the kitchen in the morning with a meow, letting you know that she is ready for her cream. She eats am and pm (time flexible)and enjoys the occasional scratch on the head, but otherwise she pretty much likes to stick to herself.
Jon and Cathy have created a lovely space. Their yard and home are clean, comfortable, uncluttered and beautifully decorated. It is a very peaceful place to hang out. The guest room has a very comfortable bed and lots of closet and drawer space. Their big kitchen is great, and fun to cook in, but my favorite place to cook was the outdoor cooking space on their lovely covered patio while enjoying the trees and the sound of running water. And of course the two wild ducks that frequent their yard. The location is great, close to food, coffee, shopping and easy access to anywhere in the Boise area, the best part about the location is that it is a stones throw from a small lake and the greenbelt with miles of walking/biking trails along the Boise River.
In short, everything about this sit was pretty perfect! I highly recommend!

I had a fantastic experience pet sitting for Cathy. She was extremely organized, communicative, and provided a binder on-site. Boo-Zack, Max, Harley and Sofie were all a delight. They each have their own unique personalities and definitely make it known when they want something. Thank you for welcoming me into your beautiful home to me.

Evi
Such a great housesit! Evi was prompt on communication, helpful, and flexible getting all the details settled like arrival/departure. Both Evi and Sissy were welcoming on arrival and took the time to show me around, discuss the dogs, and go for a quick walk to see the park before they had to leave. The apartment is comfortable, warm, and just outside downtown, with a buses that stop right out front. It’s impossible to overstate how incredible the free public transportation is!!!

Of course the real stars of this housesit are Dionisis and Reggina. I couldn’t have had better holiday buddies. Easy going and very sweet, they’re a pleasure to be around. After a long morning walk, R is happy to sleep the day away and even D, who will play with his toys a bit inside and might occasionally bark if it sounds like a neighbor is getting up to mischief, is mellow.

We did tons of exploring together, from the local riverside park to climbing above old ruins to all three of us getting on the bus for a big park where they can run off leash. D needs lots of neck scratches since he has issues with his hind legs from an old injury and can’t scratch properly. So make sure he has rubs and brushing and he’ll be a happy boy. (Good to brush them both lots anyway because they are shedders!) You also need to be physically able to carry D up the stairs in the apartment each day. But he is pretty manageable. Not much bigger than a Shetland sheepdog.

Evi will warn you about this, but it bears repeating: R will eat small fabric items (sock, hankie) and paper! She got some bread and my paper map off the counter one day which I didn’t realize she could reach and ate a huge chunk out of my map. Yes, this dog will eat your homework. So keep everything in the kitchen closed up in drawers, and all of your own personal things closed in the guestroom or with you. You need to watch them on walks too because they will munch any bit of rubbish they find like a wet tissue on the sidewalk, especially R. That being said, they are easy-keepers, super chill, and the sorts of dogs who don’t even get up from their beds if you go into the kitchen or downstairs for laundry. Just pay attention to the quirks.

I’m grateful to have had such a lovely holiday sit in an interesting city with great hosts, both two- and four-footed, and I hope to see them all again someday. I’m already missing Mr. Grinch and the Armadillo!

Janet
I feel honored to have sat for Janet & Eric. It was so great to spend the week in their beautiful new home with their amazing doggos. I have nothing bad to say about my experience. I only want to come back for more sits! :)

Janet is so sweet, understanding, and communicative. I had no issues with communication before or during the sit, and I was given all the necessary information in order to care for the dogs and watch the house before the sit started.

The doggos are all amazing in their own way. Belle is such a sweet and gentle German Shepard mix. I melted every time she turned over and asked me for belly rubs. Riley is very relaxed most of the time, then every so often will get the zoomies which was very entertaining. She also loved to play fetch which was fun. JoJo is soooo loving. She would be happy to stay on my lap and be pet all day long if she could. All three dogs are very well behaved which helped to make this sit go smoothly.

The house is beautiful and spacious. There are many places to hang out outside, as well as many places to sit and work remotely inside, which was very convenient for me. I felt safe in the neighborhood as a solo female traveler and all the neighbors that I met were very nice and welcoming.

Overall I would recommend a sit at Janet & Eric's to anyone! I hope to be back soon. I already miss the dogs :')
