Overall this was a pretty good sit but in the name of honesty I do have to knock a star off for a few reasons. Those reasons are:

- There is an overpowering smell of wet dog downstairs. It was so strong and unpleasant that I had to have the back door open all the time.
- I personally found downstairs to be a bit sub-par cleanliness-wise.. bits of food left in the sink, dirty sponge for example.
- I guess because she’s used to being fed leftovers, Serge has a bad habit of sitting right by you while you eat and whining to be given some of your food - and won’t respond to being asked to lie down or move away. Personally I find this super off putting!
- I was told that Serge has a pretty good recall, so I let her off the leash. Unfortunately I found that she has no recall at all, which resulted in some dangerous (for her) and stressful (for me) situations! I totally understand that a bloodhound isn’t going to respond to you when they’re on a scent - but I mean she didn’t have any response to being called when she wasn’t engaged in sniffing or even just in the garden. I wanted her to have the freedom to run and play so she was off leash in areas that seemed safe to me, but honestly it was stressful to manage. The retractable leash is gona be your best friend!!
- Serge is a bit of an escape artist! She managed to slip out of the door as I opened it to pop to my car - paired with the bad recall it was very difficult to get her back from her little adventure.. and very stressful since she ran quite far, getting close to the main road.

Of course, these things are all subjective and for me personally made the sit less enjoyable. They may not bother others but I do feel it’s important to be transparent and give a fair overview.

Now that that’s over, I can tell you the good stuff!!

- Claire is super friendly, warm and welcoming
- Upstairs is nice & clean - especially the bathroom
- The futon and pillows are super comfy
- Location is great both in terms of how quiet it is so you can sleep easily, and in terms of going out and exploring. La Rochelle, l’île de Ré, l’île d’Olèron, coastal paths, and the canal are all within easy reach and very beautiful.
- Serge is very flexible with her walks so you don’t have to stick to a tight schedule, she happily came along on all our adventures!
- Serge is extremely cute!
