Rudy
I spent a month keeping Cobi company in Alex and Rudy's beautiful home. It was such a pleasure to stay with Cobi and get to know them. They're welcoming hosts who communicate clearly. Their home is in a wonderful area, where it feels like a small town even though you're still in the city.

Alex and Rudy warned me that Cobi can be a bit of a salty old lady. I see where she got this reputation, although mostly she's a total sweetie. The problem is that she looks like a toy and you really have to suppress the urge to pick her up and squeeze her, because she's a dog who doesn't want to be treated like a toy. I have approximately a thousand pictures of her on my phone because she is absolutely adorable, especially when she's napping in her little nests. Cobi is a bit cat-like in requiring cuddling to be on her terms and expressing when she's done.

Luckily, she's in the mood to cuddle and play much of the time. When she would come sit in my lap it felt like a stamp of approval. She may as well be a puppy when she's in the mood to play. When she's in the mood for alone time she curls up in one of her beds and relaxes.

Cobi is very low maintenance. I was watching a puppy before Cobi, so it was quite nice to have a dog who was perfectly fine being left home alone. In bad weather she was content to do a quick loop around the block. On nice days she was happy to explore the neighborhood with me.

The house has everything you could need, with a fantastic kitchen. Their home is full of art and things from their travels. The cold weather meant I really enjoyed their gym and the heated floors in the bathroom. I loved having a house full of plants and they were very forgiving of the fact that one of them did not thrive under my care. It was lovely to be able to watch the birds in the yard. We got enough snow that Cobi basically had a snow fort, which was super cute. The city clears the sidewalks, so I only had to do supplementary shoveling.

Before the sit started we thought we might have to cancel it because of covid, so we came up with various backup plans. The city went into lockdown the day I arrived, my flight was cancelled and changed several times in both directions, and the city got an exceptional amount of snow during my stay. Throughout it all, Rudy and Alex were helpful and flexible. I needed to be in Toronto to take care of legal paperwork and finalize my citizenship, all of which was complicated by lockdown. Having such a comfortable home, a sweet dog, and a quiet neighborhood made a stressful time much easier for me.

Juliet
Juliet and Hans have an immaculate apartment in a modern high rise in the Navy Yard neighborhood. It was a comfortable and easy home to spend time with Lewis and Clark. They are sweet cats, almost identical! Fun companions and easy to care for. An excellent sit! I highly recommend it.

Sarah
Sarah is the most wonderful, thoughtful host and her animals and home are a delight! Sarah's family home is so lovely and so comfortable that we didn't venture far afield, apart from the local pub, great field and playground, striking church and churchyard and the wonderful RSPB reserve close by. Our daughter was enthralled with the chickens and the garden and the many opportunities to be creative! It was very easy to relax at Sarah's, in a pretty village surrounded by countryside (and blackberries!!). Highly recommended!

Carrie
Taking care of Buddie is a real privilege! I could tell from the outset that Carrie was looking for someone who would follow her routine and treat Buddie and her home with love and respect. She calls him a ‘sensitive soul’ and it’s so clear to see why.

Buddie is a truly grateful rescue dog, well trained and humble. He rarely barks, he knows how to behave in and out of the house; and he can sense when you need a little TLC! I was looking forward to some great beach adventures but spent two of the days stricken by illness. Despite that, it was my responsibility to make sure Buddie got the walks he needed and deserved. I really enjoyed going out with him, even when I was unwell… yet in between times, I went back to bed with Buddie curled up beside me.

Carrie’s home is modern, welcoming and very clean. I’m grateful for the opportunity she gave me to spend time with Buddie. I miss him terribly today and truly hope there will be other occasions to care for him.

Thanks for your hospitality Carrie!
