Rollo was a very lovely boy, I had a great time looking after him! Sian was very helpful and kind.
This was Anna's debut as a THS host, and what a host she was. So thoughtful, so considerate, and so generous, going far and beyond to make it as comfortable as possible for me. I can't say I was missing anything; perhaps having some wheels to make trips to the grocery stores and train station faster would have been the icing on the cake but they'll be provided for the next sitter. Anna definitely deserves her 5 stars, and I'd give her even more if it were possible. The pets were amazing. Tilly, the dog, was absolutely adorable, so loving and well behaved, enjoying walks around the lake and head rubs. The funniest thing of all were her guarding skills of the fish tank and barking alerts as soon as the kitty showed near the tank. Meddi, the kitty, was such a cutie pie who triggered my motherly instinct to the its full potential. All I wanted was to hug him. Even the fish care (first time for me) was a breeze. The house was lovely, situated in a residential area by the lake, approximately 35 km from Brussels. I particularly relished the deck encircling the house and only wished the weather had allowed me to enjoy it more often. All in all: great host, great pets, great sit. Highly recommended.
Anne's home was very comfortable and as I told her upon arrival, you can practically feel the love and good vibes surrounding you once you're there. Their family has positive affirmations and inspirational messages on display in various places, some fun vintage photos, and eye-catching knick knacks. I didn't read anything from their collection while I stayed, but their book collection is out of this world and I personally just love being in homes with that much literature everywhere. The fireplace was an especially nice treat to get cozy by while you snuggle up with the very friendly pets. And I'm not much of a cook, but the kitchen set-up is amaaaaazing. The furry friends were all delightful and warmed up to me right away! One of the cats wasn't keen on taking the nightly pill, but as Anne suggested, it was easy enough to sneak it into some wet food and that did the trick. The doggo does pull a little bit on walks, but Anne also gave me a tip to sort of "assert control" right away on the walk and that seemed to help and all of our treks went smoothly in that regard. Anne warned that the dog (like so many pups I've encountered) does not do great when encountering other dogs while on a leash so with that warning in mind, I made sure to cross the road when we ran across other dogs and that worked just fine. On a walk in a nearby nature trail area that wasn't quite as feasible, but even just taking a few steps off the trail and holding tightly onto the harness while saying soothing things seemed to keep the dog calm and we had an uneventful hour-long hike. Ann Arbor is a great town for biking with so many trails to choose from, plus the drivers are friendly about passing you with a respectful distance. There's a local company I'm obsessed with called Zingerman's that operates several different types of eateries in the area and although they're not doing dine-in just yet due to COVID, visiting their original deli in town was something of a pilgrimage for me - I definitely recommend checking out any of their locations if you get a chance! I would certainly recommend this sit to anyone and perhaps will be back again myself someday!
