This was my first time using the application and it was really very easy, the communication with Lorena was very easy and all the indications and needs were very clear. The house is spacious and very clean, a few minutes from the center of Bernau. I went for Christmas time and the truth is that the place has its charm for those dates. The cats are very quiet, Gatilde is the "queen" of the house and every night she slept next to me, being on the bed seemed to be her greatest pleasure (although she also has as a great hobby to check the food bowls of her sisters after eating their food), the most affectionate with me was Basilia, who loved to get on top of me and "knead" me, she was the most talkative and affectionate. On the other hand Keiko was more shy with me at the beginning but then she loved to be next to me and fall asleep on me. It has been a pleasure to take care of them and enjoy their company.
I had a great time exploring Austin with Balto, Appa, and Suki! It was the middle of December but the weather was DIVINE! The apartment was so charming and full of plants! Perhaps one of my favorite in terms of personality, aesthetic and decorating which allowed for some great nights in just existing in the space. Balto may be one of the best behaved pups that I have ever sat for! The cats are really fun as well! Appa is playful and friendly, and Suki is absolutely beautiful and adorable! Appa and Balto played tug-o-war over who would get to snuggle with us! Thank you also Ai and Samuel for all of the great recommendations on where to eat. I was able to put an impressive dent in that list!
Anne is very efficient and organized. She provided detailed notes with photos, and I loved the post-it notes to point out things, such a good help. Boo, she is a little timid, would come for a visit and some fuss in the evenings but after a few days, once she was used to you, then she’d come and keep you company during the day as well. While an older building it was very quiet and safe. It was easily walkable to the beach (beach chair available if needed) and shops, with a great coffee shop just around the corner. Public transport was a couple of minutes away. This was a new, unexplored area of Vancouver to me and I enjoyed my stay looking after Boo.
Jay & Jane are incredibly welcoming and straightforward. Their top priority is definitely their beloved dog, Kesey. And I always prefer sits in which the pet is the primary concern. Kesey is friendly and playful and loves hikes, walks, and chasing the ball in the park. A great outdoor dog like Kesey in such a beautiful PNW locale is an ideal way to see the area. And to top it off the house is lovely with the most fantastic view. This is one I'd be happy to go back to again!
Monty and Nero were an absolute joy to look after and the house is in a very peaceful setting filled with parakeet music by day and fox chatter by night - saw several of them too - off the road and next to woodland. Nero was the adventurer always out and about but cuddly when he was in the mood to have a break. He is the active hunter taking his treasures home to play with and nibble on haha. Monty is more of a couch potato and needs to be invited at times to go outside for a bit. From the first minute, he kept following me around everywhere and would always be close. He is the brave one and rampunctious playing one inside loving the wands and finding joy in catching bubbles. They are the most loving brothers grooming each other and wrestle-playing together whenever they get the chance. A true delight! Though the house is near a train station, it is quite the uphill journey without a taxi, which is good to be aware of when traveling with lots of luggage. Not much of a problem when traveling light.
Organisation was first-class from the off with this sit. I initially had contact with Roy via a video call while on holiday, before a quick meet a few weeks out from the sit (well, I say “quick” – I must have been there for a couple of hours as we sat and put the world to rights) confirmed it was all systems go. Both he and Laura had everything ready for me upon arrival; a full crib sheet of how to look after Nellie and Flo, any extra info to do with the house, and even a spare bit of cash should I have wished to have treated myself to a takeaway. (I did. Roy recommended an Indian takeout, which I can now concur is right up there.) It really was a case of “mi casa su casa” and I felt supremely comfortable – thanks to regular communication and updates from Roy – to treat the place as my own. Nellie and Flo, although a little hesitant at times due to the nature of being rescues, are just the most adorable little cats and very easy to care for. We even developed a little routine – Nellie would come in for sleeps at night, while Flo would make her play for some morning cuddles. The bungalow, situated on what feels like a proper community-driven street, is warm, cozy and spacious with decent access to shops and such like. It’s all just essentially a top, top housesit. Five stars from me.
