Carole and Ron are excellent cat-sitters! They took very good care of my cat Lola and of my house. I came home to a happy cat and a very clean and tidy house. They sent me pictures of Lola and kept me updated, so that I had a very relaxed holiday. I very highly recommend them as cat- sitters and I would be thrilled if they would come back to sit for Lola again. Thank you so much!
Kathy and Ron arrived at our home with a most fantastical toy for our cats and a giant apple pie. Need I say more? They are very experienced sitters and brought personal items that they prefer. We knew we were leaving out cats in good hands. A large part of their 'job' was hand watering our garden and Ron took that in stride. Everything is thriving. Our cats are usually distant with new people but we received photos of them keeping Kathy and Ron company in various situations which was reassuring. They clearly won our cats over. Although Ron and Kathy had a ferry to catch on their last day, they took time to wash their linens and hang them on the clothesline. They also left us a gorgeous plant for our garden. We would very much like to have them back for a longer sit if possible.
Elyse was one of the best pet sitters we've ever met! Couldn't recommend her more. We hope she stays at our place again. She sent many pictures of our beloved cats throughout our absence. We returned to our cats seeming relaxed and happy as ever. She also left our apartment sparkling clean. 10/10 :)
Jenima is an excellent sitter! She is organized, communicative and flexible throughout the stay. We needed a sitter at the last minute because Jazz got sick, and Jenima saved us. We left a little worried about him, but Jenima took care of him really well and kept us informed. Cats love her! We definitely recommend her to take care of your pets!
Lindsey watched our cat and dog for a long weekend when we went out of town. She was a very communicative sitter sending frequent pictures and voice notes with updates. She did a great job of following their schedules and giving them attention. The animals seemed to be happy and relaxed when we returned home and I believe Lindsey enjoyed getting to discover all of the eateries our town has to offer. A win-win for everyone!
Karen was able to step in a sit for me on short notice after another sitter canceled. She was very thorough and communicative and I felt I had left my apartment and cats in good hands with her. I came home to a clean apartment and happy cats. I definitely recommend Karen as a sitter.
Heidi was an outstanding cat sitter for my Luna! She was very communicable via calls or texts. She followed all my guidelines for feeding and care of Luna. Luna was very content when I arrived home thanks to Heidi! My home was immaculate when I arrived and she did some snow shoveling. She even pulled a large broken tree branch off my roof following a windstorm. I hope Heidi is available for my next trip because she is awesome. Jim
My husband and I reached out to Toby & Chloe after reading their profile and impressive reviews only a week before our trip, since our scheduled sitter had to cancel at the last moment. They were very friendly and quick to respond to chat from the very beginning, and ended up exceeding our expectations during their two week stay. It was evident they had thoroughly read our Welcome Guide beforehand, as they arrived knowledgeable and prepared to care for our home and pets. They were very willing and happy to take the necessary time with us to walk through the house and meet our cats, as we got them acclimated with our daily routines and answered any questions. Shortly after we left, our city had a heat wave come through, and after immediately notifying us, Toby went beyond the call of duty and inspected our struggling AC unit to pinpoint the issue. As far as cat care is concerned, we have two seniors (who have more sensitive tummies) that can get irritated after a fur ball or swallowing anything out of the ordinary. When this occurred, Toby & Chloe stepped in and took wonderful care of our cat duo; softening their food and even cradling while hand-feeding them for extra comfort. We truly could not have asked for more affectionate and responsible sitters. We returned to a spotlessly clean home, happy cats, and well maintained plants and pool. (They even cleaned our dusty Kitchen pendant lighting, which requires a steady hand and is definitely a time-commitment …We felt like professional housecleaners had been there!) On our way back, Toby & Chloe stayed in communication with us to monitor our arrival time, allowing them to care for our cats until just before we got home. Overall, they are very reliable and trustworthy sitters whose genuine goal is to provide a top-quality sit, while maintaining your household and seamlessly transitioning to your pets daily schedule.
Chris was a fantastic cat sitter for our elderly and high maintenance kitty. Chris was the perfect combination of responsible and on top of her medication needs while also being calm and relaxed about her picky eating habits and the need to monitor her food and medication consumption. He was prompt, easy to get a hold of, responsible, and overall, a great sitter. I would definitely recommend him and most certainly hope to have him stay with her again.
Steven was a great sitter for our black lab Souris and cat Pinot. They were well looked after and really liked Steven. Our house was in good order when we got back and Steven was kind enough to give us a lift to and from the airport. He was very flexible, arriving day early so we could show him around.

When vacationing with family and friends, it’s so important to find the best boarding/training facility to care for our four legged family member. Miriam and staff couldn’t be more accommodating to our family and dog. We quite often say that our dog’s vacation/training and stay at Shady Mountain Pet Retreat is often nicer than ours! We give it 5 🐾 (stars). Already planning our next visit for our beloved Piper. She’s got her bags packed and marking off days until her return!
Miriam + the team at Shady Mountain were the best decision we have ever made as animal parents. They loved on our sweet Great Pyrenees puppy, Odin, while giving him a strong foundation in “good manners”. During our weekly visits, Miriam helped train us to help Odin maintain his training at home. She helped us understand how our behavior and cues are interpreted by Odin + gave us the skills we need to make sure we can all live comfortably and HAPPILY together. If you’re wondering if you need help, you do. You will benefit so incredibly - even if you don’t have a “problem” dog. CALL! This place is worth every single penny.
Top Notch. Worth the price. Your dog will learn a lot in a short amount of time. The owner and operator is very dedicated and has a hard working staff. The lodges (rooms for dogs) and grounds are well kept and very clean. I left my puppy with a short attention span and Mariam had her sitting, laying down and healing in one week. I am amazed. If you want a well behaved dog, send him/her to Miriam at Shady Mountain Pet Retreat.
I took my baby, Venus here to go through the Puppy board and training program for 4 weeks. Me and my boyfriend would visit her every Monday and go over the lessons she had learned that week. The first week of her being there, AMAZED me! It was like a whole different puppy! What made me much more happier, was it was positive reinforcement!! No shock collars, or anything that would scare/hurt my baby. Before taking Venus in, she would consistently bark, not come when called, didn’t know basic commands and would pee inside. Now, she knows how to heel, sit and stay, sit, sit and lay. She doesn’t bark excessively and she actually listens! And she knows where her bathroom is,,, OUTSIDE! Best place ever! Everytime we went in, it was so clean and tidy. Always welcoming too (: I definitely recommend !!
SMPR is a pet paradise! The facilities are top notch and clean, the grounds are beautifully kept, and Miriam is second to none when it comes to taking care of and training your pets. By far the best pet "bed and breakfast in the region." It's certainly not a kennel, it's a retreat!
Harley is in a doggie paradise. Shady Mountain Pet Retreat is one of the best boarding and training facilities Harley has ever been too! Miriam and her husband are hard workers who truly love animals. This is the second time harley has been here and he loved it He gets special attention and loves to swim in the pool. He thinks he's playing but we all know he really needs the exercise. Harley loves playing with other doggies as well. Something he doesnt get very often at home. Miriam was also patient and positive in her training and he responses well. ( now if I could only do it myself lol) The facility is spacious and extremely clean. I can honestly say they have a passion for what they do and its refreshing to see. We will be back again and again! Well worth the money! Thank You!
The best place to take your pets! Huge indoor outdoor suites, hiking trails, indoor pool for dogs, professional staff and so much more. Pet suites are like hotel rooms. My pets come home happy and well behaved.
Caring and knowledgeable professional boarding and training for our goldendoodle.....she learned new commands, along with reinforcing previous commands..we highly recommend this retreat...and wouldn't hesitate to use them in the future....
I might be partial as it is owned by very close friends. . They are very good with all animals. The facility is very well kept.
