Dog Sitters in Cape Breton

We came in from out of town without having our reservation for the day fully confirmed as I was having problems doing it online and the owner I emailed the other day was on vacation but they still accommodated my Doodles and Golden. They went in excited, came out happy and tired. An added bonus was they didn’t smell gross leaving like some other kennels we’ve been to this was especially awesome as we are camping in a small trailer out of town. Staff was friendly and great with the dogs on drop off and pick up. Thank you for all you do. They’ll definitely be back! Tired pup pictures for attention.

We are new to Cape Breton and the adjustment of moving for our dog has at times been a challenge. Having Tracie and her team welcome our family to the lodge has been so helpful. We have a safe place for our pup to be taken care of when we need to leave her and access to Tracie for specialized training for our dog. Tracie works with us on the best approach for our dog and does not make you fit into a mould of basic training classes. Day two our training plan and our pup was making huge strides forward. We cannot thank Tracie enough for her time and her approach with us.

I did a "stayvacation" at the lodge for our 1 year old 12 lb morkie Peanut prior to our upcoming vacation and so glad I did!! Gave me peace of mind knowing my Peanut will be in great hands. I read up on their website, asked friends, family and at my vet who all had great things to say about "Island Dog Lodge" in Sydney, Nova Scotia. I met both Tracie and Terri who are both caring, passionate and put my mind at ease. Peanut had an absolute blast and he slept through the whole night. 😊 !! They have wonderful stories daily so you can view the interactions. A must read on their website. Peanuts looking forward to his next stay!! I keep him excited to return by saying "We're all going to the Lodge"!!

Friendly, caring, professional, and reliable. What an amazing place! The owners definitely have the right vision and care as much about the dogs as their clients as the human owners too. We consider ourselves incredibly fortunate to have found this kennel and grooming spot. They also provide excellent training for companions and owners. It is the whole package here. Even nutrition evaluation and custom nutrition for your pets needs.

Our dog Mavi has been coming here since we moved to Sydney last Spring. She always comes back happy and healthy! Thank you!

The lodge was clean, friendly, and well staffed. Daycare prices were reasonable. My senior dog enjoyed himself to the max, attested to by his lengthy nap once we got home!

Village Dogs is the best of.Cape breton! My little Starlita just loves going to "school" and seeing all her "teachers" all the pups are well cared and kept up with their training. Can't say enough about this place !

My Boxer mix has been with the team for over a year now. She has not only gained confidence and control. She is well-behaved and listens significantly more since starting daycare and training. They are the best and make you feel part of their family! No better option in CB.

They are very good, at what they do. Highly recommended, you want to train your pup/dog this is the spot to go.

My family and I planned to visit the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site. However, dogs are not allowed in the reconstructed area. So I decided to board Coco for the afternoon with Paws Awhile. Michelle was responsive to my emails. Coco came into heat during our trip so I was worried. When I called, Peter reassured me that the dogs do not interact with other dogs so Coco would be safe. That, I suppose, is the down side if you want your dogs to play with other dogs. They did not ask many questions about the dog i.e. medical records, behavioral issues etc. Coco is wary of new people so Michelle could not get her to go indoors. However, she worked around it and I appreciate the flexibility.

I was nervous leaving our puppy for the first time. But she was good and well cared for. We boarded her for only a few hours while on vacation from Ontario. Kennel was clean. A lot of other dogs. They took the time to put in some of the "barky" dogs so our puppy would feel more comfortable. She definitely didn't like being away from us for even a few hours. It was her first time being away. Would definitely recommend this place though.

DO NOT USE THIS PLACE. We needed to kennel our 2 dogs for a few days. My husband did up baggies of food for each dog , morning and dinner ones. Both dogs are on certain meds so it was important to do the baggies. My husband went to pick the dogs up , 2 of the bags were not used. Bottom line is, Peter told us they don't read the bags, so our dogs were given the wrong food and wrong meds. One of the dogs has blood coming out of his bum due to getting wrong food. My husband explained everything to the wife including meds being in the baggies of food for each dog. Maybe this place is ok for people that don't have a way to know if their dogs are being fed properly but we knew they weren't . Bowls were also filthy

Absolutely fantastic! We've left our Aussie, Crixus, here twice and each time we came back to a happy boy. He has his own private room and a big area to run around, complete with a horse friend. We recommend highly, they treat your dog like their own.

The owners were very friendly and made a point of getting to know my dog. She was only there for a day while I towards something and they were conscientious of not putting her in a stressful situation. They seem very knowledgeable about all their animals. I felt very comfortable leaving my puppy there.

Contacted the owner to watch our dog while we explored Fortress Louisbourg for the day. They were very accommodating and gave us lots of tips for exploring around the fort. Great option for those looking for a quick and easy place for their dog for the day!

After a few trips there that I learned my dog was not getting to play or be social with the other dogs. It was very heartbreaking 💔. That was there last time there!! They also don't ask for medical records to made sure your dog is up to date!! You don't sign papers to show you dropped off your pet, and so many other things to me are infractions!! WHAT WAS I THINKING . I BLAME MYSELF!!!! Ask questions, ask for a receipt to show you did drop off your family member and when your picking them up.... weird things happen these day and who knows , your best friend may not be there when you come back!!! What proof do you have they were ever there... A COVID MISTAKE I MY PART!!! BAD, BAD, BAD!!!

Peter and Michelle always take great care of our dog. The place is clean and its obvious they run an organized operation and care for the animals. Highly recommend them if you need a kennel for a day or longer.

Looks like dog hell for any dogs that wouldn't be okay being left alone.

I have never experienced such friendliness from groomers. My pup Dominic loves getting bathed, and he especially loves it when Michelle is there to great him. He is always so soft, fluffy and happy after his bath, thank you for taking such good care of him.

We have been getting our English Springer spaniel has been going there for what we call Ozzie spa day. They go up and beyond to care for Ozzie. I know that they check him very closely all over for any problem there maybe that we have not noticed. Thank you for such great service. Rick MacMillan

Thank you, The Dog Place! Pepper was amazingly calm and content each time she returned home from being groomed. She was beautiful, her coat was soft, fluffy, and expertly trimmed along with the nails. I received great advice from the groomer and above all, we are always treated well.

This place is an awesome place to bring your kiddos🐾🐾, whether it's for daycare or grooming. They got you covered from head to toe. When I drop mine off, I know I have no worries they're in caplable hands by all staff. …

Was very pleased with our German Shepherds grooming, she looked so nice after her bath and combing. Not so much hair around the house today. Thank you for such a good job.

Can't say enough of how great That Dog Place is! The quality of service and the care of our dog was superb. We new our dog was in great hands and she was calm and comfortable throughout the grooming process. The owner also was very knowledgeable and gave us some great tips. NS works is in there..marks is a good store. The little bakery has coffee and baked goods. Tables to eat. Could use massage chairs. :)

What an incredible place! The staff is so friendly and accommodating and Michele is fantastic. Today he had his first grooming and he’s a whole new dog - so fresh, clean, not shedding, clean ears, wiggly and happy! Thanks guys!

Fully integrated boarding and grooming facility with amazingly large play areas for pets. Along with free time, organized play time for all dogs. Day rates and long-term rates are available. Friendly, courteous staff, headed up by Michele, super congenial owner of the facility.

Absolutely love this place and would highly recommend it to anyone with a dog, no matter the age or breed. Michelle the owner is an absolute sweet heart and shows how much she cares about the dogs. Super nice and clean facility, with 2 big outdoor fenced in areas. Best puppy social in the province.

Great kennel! Loads of interactive activities to stimulate the puppers mental and physical needs. The owners are super passionate about dogs and ensure a gradual integration with their dogs then other guests. They post video and picture updates so you can see all the fun activities your dog is up to during the day. Really appreciate Ethan and Rachel's support!

Definately the best doggy hotel you could find. They really care about your little buddy and ensure a great time during their stay. Be it for a day or a year, your 4 legged baby will be begging to return to run and play with all the friends they will make. So much training and experience that you can be confident in their services and need not worry about how your friend will be treated.

The #1 kennel on the island by a long shot! Amazing setup for the dogs, including a huge yard with a pool, and the owner truly cares about the dogs’ wellbeing during their stay. My dogs get excited when they hear the word “kennel” now haha

Good Hands is always my first choice whenever we have to board our Frenchie, Otis Potato, or want to give him some "pack play". Rachel, the owner/operator, is absolutely amazing and comes with years of experience and high-level training. She is, and always has been, wonderful to interact with and very affectionate towards our furry, little guy. I know that when Otis needs a place to stay and the best care possible he's always in not just good hands but the best of hands with Rachel. We're incredibly appreciative of the opportunity to have had Rachel, and Good Hands, in our and Otis' lives over the last seven years.

We have a 3 year old Malamute who is a rescue dog with a traumatic past. He was mistreated in his previous life, and has some behavioural issues, through no fault of his own. Rachel and her team were so fantastic with him. He came back to us, after a 3 day stay, a happier and more relaxed dog! Highly recommend! Thanks so much, Rachel! - Adam, Jessie, and Rico

We’ve been going to AJ’s since Jen opened. Quincy knows when I say “Jennifer” - it means he’s going to see his other Mommy. He’s treated like royalty. They love him as much as we do. It’s a fantastic place for small or large dogs and they go out of their way to ensure pup parents feel good about leaving their fur babies for a day or extended visit - plus we can see the daily pictures.

Such a wonderful facility. I really appreciate that there is an option to book online. Jenn and her staff are very quick to answer questions. When I dropped off my dog for the first time, it smelled so clean! They really give the dogs love and attention. Check out their Facebook or Instagram if you want to see the pups being spotlighted. Highly recommend if you're looking for daycare or boarding in the area.

This was our first time taking our boy Coco to Aj's country boarding .. This was coco's 2nd time in his 4 years of life at a kennel .. I was a nervous dad leaving our boy for 5 days.... The owner Jennifer made me feel at ease . She answered every message I sent her .. Jennifer and her staff sent us pics of coco enjoying himself with his new friends .. They went above and beyond to make Coco comfortable, he was nervous and shaking as well. Every pic and video I seen he was happy and having fun with his new friends and staff.. .. The staff are amazing caring and very helpful.. I would recommend Aj's to anyone. 5 +++++

Max our beagle is having a staycation this week at AJ’s Country Boarding and he loves going there. I never have to worry about him as Jenn and staff take such good care of him. There are other beagles so he feels right at home! Thank you for taking such good care of our boy! Sue Campbell

AJ’s is an amazing dog daycare. They are committed to kindness and fun for the pups. My puppy Tenor starts howling as soon as I make the turn towards Port Morien and leaps out of the car to get to his friends (fur friends and the humans). Always smiling, Jennifer and her staff love dogs and provide gentle and playful care for the pups. I would definitely recommend AJ’s 🥰
