Where to start? The Kitten: Sweet Eggroll. I grew up with kittens and cats, but haven't had one for 40 years so the nostalgia was real. Eggroll is a smallish kitten with a HUGE personality -- always curious, always wanting to play until he finally falls asleep on your lap. He'll play bite you then lick you like kittens do. His job is to provide hours of free entertainment and he takes his job seriously! We watched Eggroll in June of 2022, so he might be past the kitten stage by the time you are the sitter. We would love to go back someday and see how Eggroll has grown. As of now, he's a really healthy kitten who loves to play and explore the house - sometimes at 90 miles an hour! His purr motor is quick to start when you pet him and he is ready to relax on your chest while you both take a nap. The owner: Amy is a 2nd grade teacher. Patient and calm as she explains your roles while watching Eggroll, the house, and the beautiful flowers and plants that surround the house. Amy also went above and beyond for us after we had left. I absent-mindedly left one of our bags at their house and didn't realize it until we were 300 miles away. Once I texted Amy upon her return and explained what had happened she wrote "bummer" and then happily fixed my mistake the next morning by using UPS to send us our 20 lb forgotten bag. The house: Peaceful comfort surrounded by culture. Amy and Mike have decorated their beautiful, quiet house in a way that makes you want to spend a little time with each of their wall hangings, figurines, interesting lighting, and unique furniture. It made me want to rethink MY whole house! It's obvious they have a love for travel. It is also obvious they are both highly intelligent and enjoy learning and experiencing all they can about the world. The location: Their tree-lined inclined street is sometimes referred to as the Park Avenue of Boulder. Pretty accurate I would say. Large old well kept historical houses. A neighbor of theirs stopped by as Jamie and I sat out on Amy's large front stone patio surrounded by trees and flowers. He noted that this was one of his favorite houses in Boulder because of the way it made him feel at peace nestled into the house's green and flowery surroundings. All this tranquil beauty and it is only a four minute walk to the heart of Pearl Street! Note: Amy does have a small AirBnB (bedroom/living room/bathroom) in her basement. She let us know all about it during our first conversation. There may not be anything YOU have to do if there are no guest changes during your stay, but if there is, it is no big deal. Jamie and I cleaned it between guests a couple of times during our week long stay. It literally took us about 30 minutes to clean and restock the whole thing. Amy has detailed instructions with labeled pics and she and Mike have all the supplies right there so it is super easy and simple. We enjoyed getting to know the guests a bit as well. We hope Amy thinks of us next time she and Mike decide to go on their next worldly adventure! Their home and Eggroll was the perfect ending to our month long vacation.
I feel so lucky to have been able to do this housesit with the wonderful Groodle Scout :) Sue and Chris were incredibly accommodating, great with communicating, and made sure I felt completely at home while looking after Scout and their beautiful house. Thank you both!
