We love Malcolm and Mutts, it’s become a second home for our play-all-day border collie. Aaron and Kaylee treat her like one of the family, and she’s always tuckered out after her stays here. Highly recommend!
My dachshund Matilda has been staying with Malcolm and Mutts for two years now. She is a pandemic puppy so this has really helped with her socialization and bringing her out of her shell! She’s always very relaxed and tired when she gets home 😀 …
Went on vacation for a week and left Sadie at Malcolm & Mutts. Thought is would be a great experience for her. She'd be taken care of and get some training while we were gone. Literally the exact opposite is what I received. I received a broken puppy back; she was lethargic, emaciated, and scared. Sadie had diarrhea, which she has NEVER had before, just like she's never shed the way she is currently. When asked where there any issues I was told she was sick once but recovered quickly after a bland diet. I sent the food and treats she needed for the week and when I picked her up I received the dry food back. Still trying to figure out what happened to my dog but every time I asked I would receive a response that he'd then try to walk back when questioned more about it. Sadie has been on a raw diet her whole life, she's never had diarrhea, never had her coat falling out and never been afraid to go outside. I still have to drag her outside to use the bathroom. She looks and is acting like she was starved. Pictures don't lie, and if you look at the two I'm posting you can clearly see what Sadie looked like before we left versus what she looked like after her week at Malcolm & mutts. I don't recommend.
I think they have good intentions, but it's so disappointing. I used them for a while for my dog..every time he came home he smelled like poop/pee(they don't let you see the inside). I didn't have any other options, so I continued and would just tell my self it's from all the fun. I would pay the extra money for training to be done, I never got a detailed thing at the end of the day so who knows if it ever got done. Sometimes he would come home with scratches. One day he came home a gash in his ear (would post the pic but it's gory). That was my last straw, I messages the owners and got a what felt like a copy and paste response... The owners seem great, but it seems they've lost the spark they had with having the day care.
We've been using Malcolm & Mutts for about a month now for dog walking, doggy daycare, and dog boarding. I love the extra things I can book like a bath, pick up and dropoff, and training! Our pit bull Bruce is still a bit of a puppy but has calmed down after starting daycare and getting so much playtime! Aaron and Kaylee have taken great care of him and helped out with his training which has been a huge relief!
We used Malcolm and Mutts back in August for regular dog daycare twice a week. Our dog had successfully completed a trial day a few months back and we thought it would be good for her to play with dogs during the day rather than being at home alone while we went to work. The first couple of times we dropped her off, she seemed more hesitant and nervous than usual. When we picked her up, she seemed overly relieved, whining and jumping. She has been to another dog daycare before, and we hadn't experienced these behaviors from her previously. We chalked it up to our dog being nervous in a new environment, as we recognize our dog can be a bit hyper-sensitive. Fast-forward a couple of weeks and my boyfriend takes our dog to drop her off for the day at Malcolm & Mutts, she becomes so nervous that she jumps the fence and goes running down the street. My boyfriend chases after her and once he's finally able to catch her, he walks her back to the car and just left with our dog. We never asked for our money back (as we paid for a multi-day package and had a few unused days left) and they didn't contact us to apologize, follow-up, or anything. We have taken our dog back to the original daycare and she has not expressed this nervous/anxious behavior. I'm not sure what happened at Malcolm & Mutts that made our dog so nervous, but each time I picked her up and asked how she did during the day I only received positive feedback.
I dropped off my pup Sparkles for a daycare assessment and he came back happy. Aaron was so friendly, and answered all my questions. He also took the time to listen to and address my questions and concerns. Malcolm and Mutts came highly recommended by many friends and I definitely got a great vibe from Aaron. I just signed up for daycare with them and I can’t wait for my dog to go have a blast there with his new doggo friends.
Our little dog LOVES his day care days! We feel good about the care he gets when he goes to play with his friends each week. When we went away recently we boarded him at Malcolm and Mutts and he did really well there which was a big relief to us. We're glad to have found a place we trust and that our boy enjoys so much!
I used Malcolm & Mutts for daycare and boarding for over a year. Since starting daycare there, I have seen a drastic difference in Leo's socialization skills; he is much more confident and comfortable playing with other dogs. If we were still living in the area, he would still be a regular. I recommend them!
Would not recommend. Last summer, after a week of boarding with Malcom and Mutts, our dog came back home with diarrhea and was SO SKINNY. After asking Aaron if our dog had been acting strange/not eating, he shared that there was a "stomach bug" going around the dogs at M&M and that many dogs had required medicine from their vet. Isn't this something you would tell us immediately at pick up? Not when inquiring 2 days later?! Meanwhile, the huge bag of dog food (and scoop) that I had left, was gone. The bag was brand new and there should have been quite a bit left over. I would NEVER take my dogs here. We since then have found other options and are much happier - now we don't have to worry if/when we go away and can't take the pups with us. Phew!
My family and I love Almost Home, but more importantly, our dog never wants to leave when we pick her up! The care that Susan and Lee give to the dogs and their owners is amazing, from reservation to pick up. Their reception area is clean, cozy, and full of dog toys. The first time we took Rosie there, Lee took her out to play and Rosie was instantly comfortable with him, and with Susan as well. The dog's rooms are great - functional yet comfortable, and our dog loves the indoor-outdoor run. Our lab puppy is a bit boisterous, so they made sure that when she played with other dogs, she only played with dogs that matched her energy level. The dogs' safety is clearly their top priority. They have convenient pick up and drop off hours, and sometimes they even send pictures while we're away. From start to finish, Almost Home provides a wonderful dog boarding experience. Highly recommended!!
I have left my 2 dogs at Almost Home for the last 3 years. Both are anxious dogs (as is this owner when I have to be away from them). Susan is welcoming and obviously loves dogs and taking care of them. The place is clean and isn't like a kennel, it's like rooms for dogs. When I ask for the pups not to be out with other dogs, she makes sure this is what happens. I can trust the dogs are safe and happy.
We love Almost Home! We have been sending our dog Lucy to Almost Home for over 4 years and have had nothing but positive experiences. I would highly recommend lee and Susan to anyone looking for dog boarding. A very clean, friendly environment, rooms and not cages. Lee and Susan go the extra mile for each dog. They know and understand Lucy and all her quirky habits and Lucy makes herself right at home. Lucy never comes home freaked out from being boarded and to me that is a great testament to the care she receives at Almost Home. Susan has even sent pictures when I was missing Lucy! It truly is Almost Home for my dog!
I would recommend using almost home to anyone, including those to who have never boarded their pet. This was our first time leaving our dog for an entire week. They made sure she was comfortable and felt right at home. Their facilities were really clean and each dog had an individual room. They even sent me pictures of Luna while I was away! Luna didn’t even want to come home with us when it was time to pick her up!! Luna rates Almost Home five stars as well :) we’ll definitely use them in the future!
We feel so lucky to be able to get away knowing our dog is so well cared for. We fortunately found Almost Home years ago and we have had outstanding experiences through the years. Our dog is obviously exceedingly well cared for while he is there. Susan and Lee know their dogs so well and really set all of their pets up for successful, adapting little detaisl to meet every pets needs- getting lots of outside time and socializing time. It is impressive how tuned in they are to their animals and the great environment they provide for their boarders. We feel so lucky to have them.
We have had many dogs over the years and have always felt uncomfortable leaving them when my wife and I traveled. We have had experience with many kennels and even dog sitting people. Over the last 7-8 years we have been boarding our dogs exclusively at Almost Home Dog Boarding. Our dogs have never seemed traumatized in any way when we pick them up. The discomfort of missing our dog for the period of time we are away is softened by the knowledge of how comfortable and happy our dog is at Almost Home. It is not just the physical differences from other kennels, it is the warmth and caring that Susan and Lee display every time without fail. If you love your dog, we highly recommend that you board them at Almost Home Dog Boarding.
I have been using Almost Home to board my dogs for 3 1/2 years. I have two large German Shepherds. I checked out every other boarding facility in the area and none of them are as nice as Almost Home. I especially like the fact that the dogs can be inside and go out the doggy door and see each other outside. Also the floors are heated and the room is not a cinderblock cubicle it looks like a kids room. Nice touch. The dogs are also given play time outside each day and that is important. The most important thing for me when I am traveling is knowing my pups are safe and when I leave them off with Susan and Lee I know they are safe and in very good hands. My pups are truly Almost Home.
Almost Home exceeded our expectations! We left our dog, Milo, here for a little less than a week as we traveled to a friend's wedding. The owners, Susan and Lee, were very helpful and quick to respond to my emails. They seemed genuinely interested in Milo so that they could give him a good experience. During our trip, we received several updates and pictures, which helped put our minds at ease, since it was the first time boarding our pooch. When a line of storms prevented us from flying home and made us a day late to pick up our dog, Almost Home was very accommodating, and set up an alternate pick-up time. No hassle whatsoever. Wonderful service for a price that didn't break the bank. We'll definitely bring Milo back whenever we need to go out of town again!
We have been taking our dogs to stay at Almost Home for over 7 years. Lee and Susan have taken care of our elderly golden retriever, Tess, our difficult rescue, Merrilee, and our highly active rescue, Finny. Each dog required a different touch and amount of care. Regardless of their individual needs and personalities, we are confident that they each had their needs met and had a special time while they could not be with us. Susan and Lee get that these dogs are our children and treat them with the care and love they deserve. I can't imagine bringing my dogs to any other place. Almost Home isn't a kennel, it's as good as home for our pets.
We've come to learn that it is us, not our dog, that feels bad when we leave him at Almost Home. He loves it there and is treated like a part of Susan and Lee's family. I highly recommend boarding your dog here. You won't have to worry one bit while you are away because your pet will receive excellent care!
Barksville Inn is a wonderful alternative to “traditional” boarding facilities. They provide a Home Sweet Home environment for your dog. We needed a place with flexible hours for a cross country transport pick up. Most facilities in the area were not able to meet the pick up time criteria of our transport service…except for Barksville Inn! They have early and late pick hours and a staff member is on site 24/7. We did a dry run two weeks before our move with a 4 day stay. Drop off can be chaotic and I recommend communicating all requests and inquiries prior to drop off because you will be greeted by Kevin and the entire pack upon arrival. We had time to spend, so hanging out and allowing our dog and the others to settle allowed for conversation before our departure. The welcome committee is 100% on task so plan for that. Kevin provided text and photo updates while we were away. Pick up was easy as well. We texted our ETA and once again just before arrival. This is helpful for them to have your pup ready to go. Kevin was in contact with us prior to our cross country move. He accommodated all our requests for our pet and aided in preparing her for her transport. The move was a success and he even kept in touch to ensure our dog and family made it to our new home safely. Kevin and his team were gracious and kind every step of the way. Barksville Inn is a casual “at home” operation. They are a growing family business and have improvements coming up which should make things even better for Barksville in the near future. Plan a visit and see for yourself! Boarding your pup doesn’t have to be cold and lonely. Barksville allows for couch cuddling, freedom to roam inside and out, friends to play with anytime! Thank you Kevin! ***adding photos we received via text from Barksville Inn during her stay.
The best!! We drove up from NYC to bring leave our two dogs with Kevin for two months this spring, and had the most wonderful experience with their service. We never had to worry about our dogs, knowing they were well taken care of because Kevin sent us consistent updates, and it gave us the peace of mind to enjoy our trip. They went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure the puppies were having a good time. I’m convinced our dogs were truly depressed to leave Barksville. We will, without a doubt be leaving our dogs with Kevin for our next vacation. Thanks Kevin!!!
We brought our dogs in for a meet and greet and then a second time before our trip so our dogs would do okay at the Barksville Inn. The owner, Kevin, said we were okay to leave our dogs during Thanksgiving week. The day before our trip, we dropped the dogs off. My bigger dog ran up to the lady that was there and let her pet him. She was calm and my dog was calm. Very friendly. There was another employee (male) that my bigger dog was barking at because he was a stranger. My dog barks at strangers until he knows that person is trustworthy and safe to be around. This man kept yelling at me to get my dog out and they couldn’t watch him. I was trying to explain something to him but he cut me off and kept yelling telling me he didn’t care and claimed my dog “almost bit him.” Which he didn’t. This unacceptable customer service and very unprofessional. Our Thanksgiving trip was cancelled.
Kevin and David are not your usual dog sitter, they are completely committed to making your pup feel right at home and loving them as their own. They are very accommodating to your specific needs for your dogs and great at communicating so both you and your dog can relax while you are away. We received updates with pictures. Milo and Murphy were so excited to see us, but exhausted from all the fun they had. Hands down the best dog sitting experience. The Barksville Inn is the perfect place for our boys when we can’t take them on vacation with us.
Kevin and crew do a wonderful job with caring for my pup. I have an elderly dog and he loves going to Barksville. We've used Barksville for a few years and look forward to more visits in the future.
Absolutely wonderful experience! Kevin and David were able to accommodate our 8 month old puppy on very short notice and were incredibly pleasant to work with. They kept us updated throughout the day with texts and pictures of our boy, and we felt assured that he was in good hands. The dogs are allowed to roam free outdoors and indoors which allowed our pup to get his energy out rather than sit in a kennel. We will definitely be leaving our boy with the Barksville Inn anytime we are in town! ☺️
The Barksville Inn cares for my two Australian shepherds whenever I need dog boarding. My dogs always love going here and are well exercised by the time I come to pick them up. Kevin and David do a great job and I always feel my dogs are well taken care of. The Barksville Inn is a fantastic kennel free boarding place that I recommend to anyone.
Had a family emergency and couldn’t take my wife’s little guy. The Barksville Inn were quick to respond to my boarding request, let me drop him off late as we were heading out and sent regular text updates which really help calm my wife. Not having Lucky in a kennel with many other dogs, locked in a cage wire kennel was important to us and the Inn was a great find. Highly Recommend.
The best place for your pup! Kevin and David are awesome and our dog, Ozzy, gets so excited to stay there. I love that he gets to run around with other dogs, sleep where he wants, and gets tons of love and attention. So much better than having him stay in a kennel. We even left him there for 18 days over the summer and never had a concern. We got almost daily updates and pics. The price is also very reasonable and their flexibility with pickup and drop off is very generous!
The Barksville Inn saved my day when I had to make a last minute trip back to home out of the US during the holiday season, when multiple boarding places I contacted were totally filled up. Not only I was lucky to find a place with vacancy at this busy time, but it also turned out I could not have chosen a better place for my two pups, especially with one of them requiring special care. One of my pups is a rescue from a hoarding situation, who is very timid and nervous with new places, people, and dogs in general, but also is terrified being left alone, and needs daily medication. Given the situation described I was so worried about leaving my pups for the trip, but the caregivers at the Barksville Inn listened to all my detailed instructions patiently and tentatively, and assured me that they would take good care of the pups while I was gone. Thanks to their flexibility with the drop off schedule, I sent in the pups earlier than my actual travel date to make sure everything would go smoothly. When I paid a visit after a couple of days, I gladly found both pups settled in very well. The home environment was perfect for my two pups, with the more social one making friends and playing with other dogs there, and the timid one feeling safe and sleeping in a heated blanket on the couch. During my one month of travel, it’s especially heartwarming to receive picture and video updates of the two pups playing or snuggling with one of the caregivers. It was such a relief that I had chosen the Barksville Inn for my two pups, so I could leave without any concern, knowing that they were well taken care of!
Our dog Riley always comes home tired after daycare. We always recommend Pet Playhouse to fellow dog owners and we are SO appreciative of their boarding whenever we need to leave town for a few days. The staff are so very wonderful, we have been coming here for 6 years even after moving 40 minutes away.
We've been going to doggy day care at the Pet Playhouse for a few months now, maybe once a week or once every other week. I have tried one other doggy day care in Ithaca and this is far superior. It was recommended by a friend who used the kennel, and I cannot recommend it enough. My dogs come home EXHAUSTED and you really get a two for one deal, they are often wiped out until evening the next day. I know my dogs love it because they are always so excited to come. I also feel like a VIP whenever I pickup. They can see you pull in and your dogs will be in the waiting room by the time you get to the front door, which is very convenient. I used to have to knock on the door of the other doggy day care and then wait for them to round up my dogs. Not to mention the prices are extremely reasonable and cheaper than many others in the area. Picture of exhausted dog attached.
We are very happy with Pet Playhouse. This is the second summer we've left our dogs for a 2 week plus stay, being able to drop the dogs off and have a worry-free vacation is priceless. The dogs always come back exhausted and are happy to return!
I highly recommend the Pet Playhouse and Kennels for both dog and exotic boarding. My dog and two chinchillas absolutely love it here. Caitlyn is very knowledgeable and professional. The facility is also fantastic.
My dog loves it here. Dogs get a lot of play time. It is not uncommon for your dog to sleep for 2 days straight after a couple days at the Pet Playhouse.
Excellent service Caitlyn is wonderful with the dogs!!
I’ve never had luck in having this place pick up, let alone return a call to set up a tour. Not exactly very customer friendly, and doesn’t make me want to bring my dog here unable to ever reach anyone.
The staff is wonderful, and our dog always comes home happy and exhausted!
My 2 high stung protective rescue dogs love it here, they have plenty of time and space to run. Reasonable rate, very friendly.
My dog was so well taken care of by them. We went out of our way to take her there and sleep r so glad we did.
Bed and Biscuits is just awesome! They have been so accommodating and friendly every time I’m there. My Chocolate Lab June absolutely loves it there. When we pull up in in the morning she can’t get out of the car fast enough. When I pick her up in the evening she is worn out and if you know Labs that’s almost impossible. Especially an 8 month old Lab! I highly recommend Bed and Biscuits of Ithaca.
Staff are friendly and my first impression was good. However, there were some issues with my dog’s stay. I purchased Busy Dog Package and was supposed to get daily photo updates, but no photos at all. I even called them during the stay, they promised me they will send me photos, but not at all. Upon picking up my dog, they offered to provide me some credits as a compensation, but I didn’t get any credits at all. Back home I found a scar at the corner of my dog’s eye, but they didn’t mention it. Hopefully you will take the feedback seriously and improve.
My Golden Retriever certainly enjoys himself at Bed & Biscuit when I board him there. It shows the way he can't wait to get in the front door of their facility when I drop him off there. He is a high energy, high drive Dog and they take good care of him. He was on antibiotics and needed a skin treatment daily the last time he stayed there and the staff did a great job with that as well. The hot spot area looked well on it's way to healing when I picked him up.
Absolutely fantastic! The team at Bed and Biscuit is super friendly and my dog loves them. This is saying a lot since my boy is usually wary of new people. I’ve boarded him here twice and the second time I dropped him off, he couldn’t wait to go. He gave the team member at drop off a big hug. I love that they post photos of the dogs on their Facebook site regularly so I can see my boy and the other cute dogs while I’m away. They always looks so happy. They definitely tailor their service to the individual dog. The site is also very clean and well managed.
Bed and Biscuit was a great place for my dog! He did daycare, as well as occasional boarding, and the staff are wonderful! They do a great job of supervising dogs in daycare, communicating about and addressing any behavioral concerns that come up, and are patient with questions. My dog was always happy to get there and play with other dogs and I was happy knowing he would be well taken care of.
Five star facility and service. We boarded our two dogs for the weekend and had a marvelous experience. The dogs are both rescues so we worry about kenneling them, but the care and kindness they received was extraordinary—right down to the daily (twice in one day) email reports. We are so very grateful and highly recommend the kennel to anyone looking for a home away from home for their pets.
I was a little nervous to board my cat for the first time, but Bed and Biscuit was a wonderful experience. The staff were all friendly and knowledgeable, and it seems like my cat adjusted very well. I'll definitely be back!
It is never easy to leave a pet with someone else let alone strangers. It is doubly anxiety provoking when you have to leave your pet in an emergency situation and in a new city. When faced with such a situation last week, all we could do is look on line and hope that the high reviews that The Bed and Biscuit had received were genuine. I can’t express how relieved I was to discover the gem that The Bed and Biscuit is. My pup came back happy, not stressed, and I could swear cleaner and brushed. The Bed and Breakfast is run by genuinely nice people who love dogs. They offer a wide range of options from day, to short stay, to long stay with bonus packages of entertainment for your pet. I wholeheartedly recommend giving them a try. I know we feel much more calm knowing that our dog will always be well received and happy to go there. It’s always necessary to have a boarding facility at the ready for your pet because you just never know when you’ll need one. Thank you for the great experience!
Thank you Bed N Biscuit of Ithaca for taking such great care of our puppy. Staff was wonderful and very responsive to emails/questions. The pictures showed how much he enjoyed the stay/pampering. We picked up one happy pup.
I have a shorkie, which has more of a shi-tsu traits. My wife and i left her on boarding, clean and with her medium length hair well groomed. She was supposed to stay for a week, but we were able to pick her up a day earlier. We she saw us, she was very happy to see us back, jumping and wanting to be over all over us. We took her back to the car and noticed pee smell, and followed at this, when she calmed herself down, we noticed her tail was a complete mat. She had huge mats under her ears and sticking to pee on her paws. Once at home, we gave her a full bath, but even then her paws still smell to pee. I spent 3 hours trying to undo all the mats she got at the place, but is a never ending work. I sincerely do not know how you treat dog there, leaves much to say when it comes to mine. On top of that, we left food for her that at home usually lasts about 2 weeks, and was surpeised to get a call saying her food was about to run out. In the begginig we thought was a good thing, she was eating well, but even more surprising was to hear that wasn't the case, they served her food with water (i wonder why... i a 1 and a half year dog, not an old one that has no teeth), and they throw it away. As final note, i want to thank you Bed and Biscuit staff, I spent months and many many hours taking care of her hair, and you managed to ruin months work in less than a week, something that even without taking care of her hair would result impossible at home. And please, answer this question: do you leave dogs to walk on their (or other dogs) pee? I surely do not find any explanation at how it could happen.
Caleb is hardworking, dedicated, patient, knowledgeable in all things canine and loves pups! He’s made plenty of safe, fenced in areas for the pups to frolic. We left our 4 month old puppy w him for 10 days and we’d do it again. Our boy was very happy w Caleb.
I never thought I would value a dog sitter SO much! I have 2 Golden Retrievers who are pretty tough headed but also pretty chill, so it's not like I have high-strung, needy dogs, but my two are addicted to loving attention, and they know, as do I, that they always get that when they're with Caleb! He even takes great care to only take dogs at the same time that he knows get along super well together. And he always sends photos of my pups when he's watching them! Caleb gets my strongest recommendation!
I cannot recommend Caleb and Varro Pets enough. We've had our new large-breed puppy for one month. Our first session was in our house where Caleb taught us the basics. She's now going to him for puppy school 1-2 times a week. Caleb is kind, professional, and deeply knowledgeable about dogs. He provides a variety of resources for learning, a daily log for training support and we are always in communication. She is learning very quickly and I feel confident she will be an amazing adult dog with his help. I don't trust my puppy with anyone else. Thank you Caleb!
Caleb is fantastic. We have a 1.5 year old Australian Shepherd, Cricket, who has been attending school with Caleb for almost a year. Going to see Caleb is Cricket's favorite activity. He understands her needs as an extremely high energy dog, and she always comes home content and well-exercised. He's also worked with her on a number of obedience issues. We have an extended trip coming up and we only felt comfortable booking it knowing that she would be completely cared for boarding with Caleb.
Caleb is not only a wealth of knowledge, he’s compassionate, patient, and an absolutely amazing dog trainer! His tips and suggestions have transformed my relationship with my dog. He’s gained confidence, has better recall, and has even become cuddly! I was at my wits end when I found Caleb, as having an anxious and rebellious dog was very challenging but Caleb was confident and reassuring that things would improve. He’s an absolute pleasure to work with and understands dog behavior above and beyond most trainers! It’s obvious he’s passionate about what he does and he truly is the BEST!
Caleb is fantastic! He is extremely knowledgeable about dog behavior and needs. I learn something new and valuable with every conversation we have about dogs and how we can improve training. Our dog, Tupper, loves going to “school” with Caleb. Highly recommend Varro Pets to anyone who is looking for quality care for their pup!
Caleb is so thoughtful, kind and patient. He treats every dog he meets with the same love and respect he would give his own. Our pup is not the easiest to deal with but Caleb took the time to get to know him so that he could be successful. I can’t say enough. Trust your dog to Varro Pet Services. Every dog should be so lucky.
Caleb has a passion for giving dogs the attention, structure, and nurturing they need to be the best pets and friends to their owners. Varro is simply the best option if you need a reliable and friendly place to board your dog, and if you're serious about training your pup Caleb will help you to better understand your dog and their needs so that you can both grow together. A+ services
Caleb is so knowledgeable and helpful! He’s one of the first resources I go to whenever I’m concerned about something with my pups. I trust him with the care of my dogs more than even my own family. The 2hr trip to him is worth it, because I know my pups will have a safe place to stay with lots of one-on-one attention. If you’re around Ithaca and in need of training or boarding, Varro is your best bet.
I cannot say enough good things about Varro Pet Services. Caleb is professional, and knowledgeable, connects with your dog’s unique needs, and cares for them as if they are his own. Our welsh terrier is high energy and has noise sensitivity. Since he started daycare and boarding at Varro, we’ve noticed a significant improvement in his behavior and disposition. He’s stimulated, less reactive, and calmer around dogs and people. We receive daily progress updates and tons of great photos throughout his stay. I’m very fortunate and comforted knowing our pooch is in good hands at Varro Pet Services.
Anthony and the rest of the employees are the best!! My dog had alot of anxiety and reactivity and Anthony worked hard with me to help my dog change his behavior! Any question or concern they answered and communicated constantly. I am so thankful I decided to trust these guys with my dog!!! If you're on the fence with investing the $ in your dog and the Canine Backyard, you won't regret it!
Highly recommend. The staff are absolutely amazing and caring. We utilized them often for our pup from training thru daycare. If in the area, they are the best of the best
If you had asked me when I first started taking my dog here I would have given a 5/5 review. He was first brought there as a young pup and loved his experience. As time went on we began to have incidents where he was scratched by other dogs. I understand dogs play. One experience today made sure we will never allow either of our dogs to go to this doggy daycare. A staff member called us today because our dog was viciously bit by another dog named Thor. The daycare was supposed to have strict policy about not allowing violent or aggressive dogs into the program. It has been reported to us that this is not the first time this dog had bitten another animal. A $250 vet visit and our dog being emotionally scarred are the results of a company that would rather make $30 a day per dog than to enforce their own policy. Please, if you care about your dog find another place to take them. Attached are photos of the bite after the vet was able to stitch our sweet boy back up.
We are very impressed with everyone at Canine Barkyard. They are so good to our high-energy puppy that it feels like we're dropping him off with friends every day. He comes home happy and totally exhausted from his day of "playing with friends and getting love from the staff." We love this place!
We recently moved to the area and are so grateful that we found Canine Backyard to board our now 9 year old rescue dog Tobi, part mini dachshund and part beagle. When we drop Tobi off she is calm and happy with her tail wagging and we can rest assure she is well cared for while we are gone. We love seeing the photos of her stay and her report card. The Canine Backyard is a great place to board our Tobi.
It's a wonderful place to bring my dog. I love knowing that the staff care about her as much as I do, know her mannerisms and personality and enjoy seeing her there every week. If you're interested, I definitely recommend checking out the Canine Barkyard. Posted on behalf of my dog, Emma - "I love the people and the pups! I always have so much fun at the Barkyard. I can hardly contain my excitement when my mom pulls into the parking lot, and I am fast asleep in the back seat when she picks me up. If you bring your pup by, I will make sure to say hi!"
Sophie absolutely loves going to the Barkyard! She starts whining as soon as she recognizes where she is going. She comes home so happy and ready for a nap! We're very glad she has a wonderful place to go play and socialize!
Our dogs love going here. They always treat them well and they come home exhausted!
Dropped my extra large dog off for the 1st time ever to be boarded. The staff was very nice and the place seemed to be taken care of. Laundry was going and the floor was being mopped. I would take my dog there again but she probably wouldn't like it lol
Since the day my two labs started going to The Canine Barkyard, I have always felt extremely confident leaving the dogs in the care of the loving staff. The business runs flawlessly and their communication is wonderful. If ever I have a question, I always get a quick response, and they have gone out of their way to accommodate my 6-year old and 6-month old. I get daily reports both from the staff upon pick-up and by looking at my dogs’ daily report cards. I have been extremely happy with all aspects of their care and I know, if they could speak, my dogs would agree!!!
Jen and James are fantastic people to work with. I completely trust that they take care of my pup and ensure she’s in a safe, fun, and comfortable environment. Their communication is fantastic, great rates, and very accommodating. I’m so glad I found this little refuge for my pup :)
We absolutely love bringing our dogs to Jen and James at the Red Maple!! Both our dogs are rescues and can be uneasy in new places but they are truly comfortable with them and are always excited to visit the Red Maple. They keep us updated everyday with pictures and details of their day. Highly recommended! - See happy puppy photos attached sent from the Red Maple during their stay!
I have never trusted bringing my dog anywhere more than I do here. She is a nervous dog and is very picky about who she likes but they have no problem taking the time Zelda needs to figure out who she’ll be buddies with. She is usually nervous with new people as well but the second I hand over the leash she’s ready to run to the kennels. They have always had no problem with special requests for things like medicine or extra brushing. Constant updates with pictures and videos are sent daily. My dog has changed so much for the better since going here so I will always use Red Maple!
We have 2 rescue pitbulls and while they are good dogs they are still "rough around the edges". We found these guys through a friend and they came highly recommended. They came to our house for a one on one training session. It was amazing and very well priced. Then both dogs went to their kennel over night. They took they time to work with the dogs. It wasn't one of those places you drop your dogs off and they are locked up the entire time. I am extremely happy with the service they provide.
We started boarding our dog during vacations with Jen and James about 8 months ago. They have done a great job helping her adjust to being a more social dog. Our dog has never given us trouble when we drop her off which I assume means she loves her time there as well. We can’t wait to start training classes very soon. Red Maple is also much more affordable than some of the kennels in Ithaca.
What a fantastic place! Jen and James are so kind and welcoming and take great care of my golden. They understand the needs of every dog. And they keep in touch and send great updates, photos and videos. I only wish Juju could go there every week!
My two fur babies had never been to a kennel prior to Red Maple. They both did great with Jen and James! They kept me updated with pictures, videos and messages. This will be there home away from home for now on! I highly recommend Red Maple!
I’ve had nothing but great experiences with Red Maple kennel. Jen regularly sends videos of my dog Gus playing with the other dogs via YouTube. It’s so nice to know he is being well taken care of and having fun when he is boarded in their kennel. Our Golden Doodle Gus is “special.” He’s nervous around new people and other dogs. Jen and James have the magic touch with boarders. They are easily able to accommodate Gus and meet his needs. We hired Jen to help us figure Gus out with training and it’s helped us out so much as a family. Their accommodations are well taken care of and I never worry when I leave him in their care. They accept Venmo which makes payment so easy. We really like this kennel and I would highly recommend this location to board your special pup.
Jen and James have shown an amazing awareness as to dog’s personality and needs! My Jasmin has a very sensitive personality. I did not say this to them before I left her, to be boarding with them. I only said she had not had a lot of opportunity to socialize. They slowly introduced her to appropriate “friends” and she had a wonderful stay. Jen sent frequent pictures and videos to put my mind to ease. When I picked her up Jen said Jasmin is a sweetheart and is very sensitive! We have since attended obedience classes for both dogs and had private consultations for my sheltie. In 2 sessions I have achieved confidence that my sheltie can be social and her bark is limited or none as we approach a new dog. It was a big hurdle that took me many years to resolve. I highly recommend Jen and James, The Red Maple Kennel.
We have been boarding our two senior beagles with Jen and James since they opened. Our girls love it there and we have no concerns leaving them there. They are well taken care of we get pictures, videos or texts every day. It is easy to see how much they both care about the dogs and how knowledge able they are.
We had to make an unscheduled trip to Florida last week and needed to board our Boston Terrier. He’s not used to being left in a kennel but Shelly and her husband took very good care of him. We were very pleased with how he was treated there and will definitely use them again! Thank you Shelly!
Shelly and Brandon are terrific! We had to board our dig unexpectedly and they were terrific in accommodating us:)
I dropped off my lab mix there once for a vacation because my mom always used them. I'll probably go somewhere else, if only for the fact that they didn't care that my dog was on a training regimen and refused to adhere to it at all. It was only a clicker, and it had to be clicked when she ate and got a treat, when they refused to do it I wanted to take her somewhere else but I didn't have the time to make new arrangements for her. It's poor service, if you ask me. Otherwise, she came back happy and healthy. If your dog has any kind of special needs or some kind of training regimen, find someplace else.
Can not be any happier. I called literally at the last minute and they took our dog without issue. They took great care of our dog and we had a worry free vacation. I would highly recommend this location.
We have been using this kennel for years because Carol loves the animals in her care. The kennels are clean and warm. We wouldn't go anywhere else.
Carol has been great! Mia seems happy when we pick her up! Prices are reasonable.
We always leave our pups here when we go away and they are well cared for
Friendly kennel, first time there. Duke my chocolate Lab adjusted very well.
Very friendly and they take amazing care of our pets.
Great caring people. Your family member will be in good hands.
Have used this facility many many times over the years. Though three rescues. Have never had a bad experience. I recommend them highly. They are also very reasonably priced
We have used the Spotted Zoo Pet Hotel for boarding our dog during a couple of our vacations. Our dog came back well nurtured, and smelling fantastic from a fresh bath. The service was great, and their staff is friendly. We will continue to use this business for all of our pet boarding or daycare needs in the future!
A wonderful vacation spot for our furry dog friend. She was well cared for and came home a happy pupper. I rate this pet hotel higher than most human hotels I've stayed at!
Easy drop off and pick up. My dog came home with no issues. Highly recommended
Very friendly and accommodating. Clean facilities with spacious kennels.
Very good to work with owners. Appreciate the service that they provide and how easy it is to communicate with them.
Very nice place and people 👍👍 …
Great family friendly spot. Quiet and peaceful with ample space to run and play. Several fishing spots. Grill boxes and benches as well as playground and pavilion make this a perfect in town getaway for families and small gatherings.
Thank goodness for Aaron and Woodland Kennels. The peace of mind Aaron is able to provide for my family when we travel is invaluable. Benny and Matilda, very active Beagles, have boarded many times for long stays and weekends. We are so grateful they are always safe, loved and cared for in every way. So glad we found you!
The only place I trust to leave my dog overnight for short or long stays. The kennel is very clean and cozy. I love that the dogs have access to their own outdoor runs all day. Aaron is so great with my dog who has some separation issues and she’s always easy to reach for updates while you are away. Gus loves his time at “camp” and I can always tell he’s had a great time playing and being loved on while he’s there. Thank you Aaron and family for always taking such great care of him!
Our dog has been in the care of Aaron at Woodland Kennels for grooming and overnight stays numerous times and it has been wonderful! He loves going so much that we can't say it out loud that, "It's time to go to camp" he gets too excited and can't wait. The sincere compassion and professionalism she has in her place of business makes all the difference to us and we appreciate everything she does!
The owners of Woodland Kennels and Grooming are extremely nice and very nurturing. The first time I took my dog there to be groomed she was scared because she suffers from separation anxiety and this was a new place she had never seen before. She took the time to sit down and just wait for my dog to come to her (she was so patient as it took probably a good 5 minutes) we talked about what my dog liked and what I was looking for in her grooming. When I came to pick my dog up from her grooming she was a happy girl and I could tell she had been loved on while she was there, she looked like what we had discussed and the price is very reasonable! I could not be happier with the service that I receive here and that is why I keep coming back. Thank you for being so kind hearted 💕
Aaron is great with animals! I've seen her business grow from a small room in their house to a full sized operation with roomy kennel space too! My dog has never had a problem there and I would highly recommend her services to anyone!
We have a new shelter dog, Leo, when we suddenly had to go out of town for a death in the family. Aaron came highly recommended by some friends of ours. Right I had a great feeling about this place, it’s cleaned and well kept. Upon meeting Aaron, you can see that she loves animals and cares for them very much. Leo took to her right away and didn’t even look back at me :) While we were gone, Aaron texted me updates and a video of her son playing with Leo. It helped our stressful situation knowing that Leo was well cared for. We will be back as soon as we start traveling again! Thank you!
I left my dogs here for a week while on vacation. I was very nervous to leave my dogs for this long but as soon as I met Aaron I felt so much better. I was able to text her throughout the week to check on my dogs and then when I went to pick them up I could tell they were so happy and well taken care of. Not to mention they smelled soooo good from their baths that I got them. I will definitely be boarding and grooming here from now on.
Our girl Phoebe had a good experience at the kennel. The owners are very caring and even let me text to see how she was doing. Glad to have a local kennel when we go out of town and not have to worry about our dog.
Five Stars All the way! I brought my puppy Roger to the Watkins Glen Park to do some hiking and while the campgrounds were pet friendly I found I could not take Roger to the park. Erin and the team and Woodland took Amazing care of him and we were able to enjoy all of the sites and know that our little guy was in awesome hands. The second day we took him back he just kissed and loved up on Erin and thats when I knew this place was just Awesome! Thanks so much!
