Dave is a pro at house/petsitting. He’s a bit out of the mould of the usual array of young travellers and other transients, but that’s part of his charm. The dog was well cared for and the house looked like it hadn’t been lived in when I returned. I would recommend him without reservation.
I didn’t worry at all about my pup when I was gone. Steven kept me up to date with pictures. I could tell my dog was happy and content when I got home. The apartment was also taken well care of.
Communication prior with Janet was excellent. We had a 45 minute face time call. I touched base on everything I could in a phone conversation and Janet seemed like she was capable of anything that would've be asked of her. She even said she would try and mow the lawn if need be. Janet showed up the day before at 3PM sharp. We spent several hours going over everything in great detail . She had a printout of all the instructions, we had a nice dinner together. I'm very clear of my expectations. The dogs and cats are very well behaved, know and adhere to their routine. On day 9 things changed. Two weeks is a long sit and things come up. I had two deliveries. One dog food box and another human food. And they could have been heavy for her so we provided a wagon. She complained about having to get them and put the food in the freezer. Our dogs flea and tick medicine was due the day before we left, but the vet did not fill it in time. I asked Janet to please pick it up and give it to the dogs. She complained about being our "vet tech." I like two updates every day, very short and sweet. One after the morning routine and another after the evening routine and pictures when you feel like sending them. When I think about it I will text and ask how things are going. Its what makes us comfortable when we are away from our baby's. Janet sent me a long nasty, rude text. Basically telling me she was going to do things her way and her exact words were "Going forward I will text updates when there is reason to text. If you don't trust me by now - tuff". She made it clear moving forward she was going to do things her way. So for the 2nd week of our vacation It was a sit, wait and wonder when we would get an update. Janet also did not follow our instruction about not letting the dogs out until the sun was rising. We do not let the dogs out after dark except for a quick potty break. She was letting them out sometimes as early as 4:30 in the morning. The house was somewhat clean, the dogs and were happy and really that's to most important part. Unfortunately we just don't feel Janet was a good fit for us and we would not ask her back.
