I felt at home in Sharon and David's beautiful house! They were extremely kind and hospitable. They provided me with all the necessary information and were easily contactable for any questions. Milo and Monty are gorgeous dogs and wonderfully cuddly! They are easily excitable and have lots of energy, so they love their walks. I had a great time exploring Inverness and nearby towns and even taking the dogs with me! Overall, a wonderful experience, and I would be more than happy to sit again.
For note, the dates of this sit were changed between us but not in the system. Initially it was a 2 day sit with a gap followed by a longer sit. This ended up compressed into a 8 day sit. We were so glad that Nicola contacted us and asked if we could sit for their gorgeous Pointer, Monkey. We had no particular plans for the week so it suited us just fine and although we are less than an hour away the village of Great Bourton outside Banbury was not a place we had explored yet. After our initial contact we had a video call with Nicola and found out we had a few shared interests on top of our shared love of dogs. Communication was initially via the THS email and then during the sit using WhatsApp. Nicola also sent a detailed THS Welcome Guide. Nicola and Bryn were happy to have a catch up every couple of days unless there were any urgent matters. We arrived mid-morning on the first day to a very enthusiastic welcome from Monkey. Once he met our dog Bella he was calm and gentle with her which was a great sign the two of them would get along just fine, which they did. Bryn and Nicole gave us a tour round the house and garden to ensure we were happy with everything and knew where we could find things during our stay. Bryn is a fellow sourdough baker so it was great to see he had everything I could possibly need to enjoy some baking time. As well as various flours, a dish of their home grown damson plums and picked blackberries they also left us some produce to use up in the fridge and home grown vegetables in the garden. I had great fun making bread, cake and crumble, oh and waffles (first time I have seen a waffle maker in a UK kitchen :-)) for us all to share. In addition to a fabulously well equipped kitchen the house is beautiful. A Cotswold stone type cottage with a more modern extension and a separate barn with office and very well equipped gym. As well as being beautifully decorated the house is super clean and comfortable. We had a lovely double bedroom with shower room across the landing. A great power shower and toiletries left for our use. The kitchen/dining room (with utility room directly off) has a big sofa with room for 2 adults and 2 dogs so we spent most of our time in there when not out walking or soaking up some sun on their outside garden furniture. The area is great for good walks, farm shops, cafes and restaurants as well as various National Trust homes and Castles etc. if you like to go out and visit. There are plenty of country walks straight from the door and you can walk into the next village of Cropredy and along the canal. Which leads me onto the star of the show and our reason for being there. Monkey is the most delightful, cuddly, loving, well behaved dog you could ever hope to meet. We did say that he identifies as a small dog though as he loves to be in your lap for a cuddle! As Colin said lots of dogs love to get cuddles but Monkey really loves to give them. He is very well trained and walks beautifully both on and off lead, never straying far from your side. Nicola warned us that he might bark at other people or dogs when out but he only did it once and was gently told to sit and that he didn't need to bark, that we had him covered and he never did again. He does bark at the gate if out in the garden and hears a noise outside, like most dogs they like to announce the arrival of the mail :-), but he stops very quickly when told to. He loves to know that he has been a good boy and is very responsive to treats. Nicola also mentioned that he might not always eat his dinner but we found that so long as we were with him and gave him praise for eating he would finish it up. If someone moved to do something though he would be distracted by them and would forget that he was eating his meal. Once we worked out that he is easily distracted he finished off all his meals every time. All in all a highly recommend sit with great hosts and a wonderful dog and we would be more than delighted to return to if invited and our dates coincide.
