Location & living: This is such a vibrant and welcoming home! Beautifully decorated, well maintained and colorful decor. The location is perfect, right near the Metro, with Trader Joes, coffee, and shops all VERY much with in walking distance.

Host: Josie was so sweet and accommodating. Due to travel arrangements, I did need to come in the night before the sit, and Josie arranged to stay elsewhere to accommodate that last minute change. I appreciate that so much!

Archie: The care for Archie was straight forward. He is a very sweet and affectionate boy. Like anyone you meet for the first time, you need to gain his respect and trust. He does need some time to warm up to you in the beginning but once he does, he will want belly rubs, snuggles, and a tug of war buddy! I would recommend this sit to an experienced dog owner.

What a wonderful 3 weeks we've just had looking after Derick and Sandy's beautiful property in Calne and to top it all, a very very sweet natured black lab, Bramble!
We received a very warm welcome upon arrival, followed by a delicious home cooked meal.
We fell in love with being able to pick from Dr D's very own veggie patch, the apples were the best we've tasted and our afternoon "ball through down" with Bramble was a delight to watch and experience.
Thank you both for a WONDERFUL stay and for entrusting us to look after your beautiful slice of heaven.

Julie is a wonderful and very hospitable host. From the moment she picked me up at the train station, she gave me a tour through her local town of L’Ametlla de Mar, and took me out for some tapas at one of the plazas where we ran into and introduced me to some of her friends, who joined us for a lively and fun afternoon.
L’Ametlla de Mar has everything you will need and is not too far from larger towns like Tortosa and Tarragona, with the beautiful and vibrant cities of Barcelona and Valencia just a bit farther away.
Julie’s rustic, off-grid house is beautifully situated in the hills above the town amongst centuries old terraced stone walls abounding with olive trees and amazing views. She has turned her old house into a unique and eccentric home which fits her personality well. It was quite tranquil. Just an amazing location.
I was eager to experience an off-grid life, but I never would have known it was off-grid because everything operated as a regular home with all the modern luxuries. There is an array of solar panels that provide ample power, and a back-up generator should the sun not shine, which never occurred during my two week sit. It has a huge cistern so there is no need to worry about running out of water. Her propane water heater provided hot water to every faucet and shower. She has two wood burning stoves to provide heat, and two large piles of already-chopped wood just outside the gate enough to last several winters. And her kitchen is huge and contains every modern appliance you will need to cook a feast.
Julie’s four dogs were an absolute joy. They are all incredibly happy in their environment and are able to freely roam the surrounding groves. Ruby and Cassie need a tablet each morning, which they eagerly take hidden within a slice of ham, and, of course, Tommy Boy and Nancy also received a slice of ham each morning from me so as to not be jealous.
Feeding them but once per day was also easy and orderly; they each have their dining area and don’t try to eat each other’s food, with the occasional exception of Nancy, which was okay if little Ruby didn’t want to finish her portion. I took them for several walks per day, and leashes are not necessary. They will all happily follow you through the olive groves, which was an equally pleasant walk for me, or they may choose to wonder off on their own until they wish to come home, which they always did without exception. Nancy, unfortunately, recently had ligament surgery on one of her legs prior to my visit, so under the veterinarian’s direction, she had to be kept on a leash for all of our walks so she would not run and hinder her recovery. Whilst Julie was away on holiday, I took Nancy to one of her follow-up vet appointments in town, and gave her her post-op medications until all the tablets were gone.
Ruby and Cassie are getting older, so they were happy to comfortably relax most of the day either inside on a bed, or outside in the sun. Tommy Boy and Nancy, however, are younger and full of energy, which they often spent on each other playing and wrestling, which was always a delight.
This was an amazing sit, in an awesome location, with a great host, and four wonderfully loving dogs, which I did not want to leave from.
Consider yourself lucky if you are ever able to experience it too.
Thank you, Julie; I will always cherish my time taking care of your home and pets.
