We really enjoyed staying at Elisa's place in Haarlem. Elisa was very friendly and gave us some recommendations of things to do in the area. Honey was the most gorgeous dog who loved going for walks and getting lots of scratches! Haarlem was a great place to stay, only a short train trip into Amsterdam. However, to be honest we much preferred Haarlem as it felt like a smaller Amsterdam without the crowds! Elisa's apartment is also ideally located in the centre of the town.
Watson was an absolute joy to look after. So lovable and playful- really enjoyed every moment. Christopher and Ioana have a beautiful home, and were very kind and welcoming. All in all , a very happy time.
My mother and I fell in love with Skyler instantly, still miss her, and have a chuckle thinking of her sweet self each time we find a stray hair of hers on our clothing. She is SUCH a sweet dog. We loved every moment of the two weeks we spent with her. She was a joy to walk, she was fantastic in the car, and she was wonderful with people and other dogs, so each day we drove her to a beautiful nature preserve, gorgeous forest, or wooded estate and walked her in different areas of natural beauty. Our favorite spots to explore with Skyler were Ivinghoe Beacon, Heartwood Forest, and Ashridge Estate, but all the other parks and natural areas we visited with her were terrific, too. Skyler is a serious cuddler, which my mother and I are as well, so we began and ended each day with a long petting session, and we stopped whatever we were doing to have additional petting sessions throughout the day whenever Skyler seemed to want one -- it was so relaxing and calming for us, not to mention soothing and comforting for Skyler -- a win for everyone involved! When we weren't walking or petting Skyler, my mother and I relaxed in Carol and Gwyn's lovely home, doing our telecommuting work, writing, reading, and watching TV with Skyler snoozing away at our feet. I don't think we spent more than three hours in a day apart from Skyler, and most days we didn't spend any time away from her at all. She is excellent company! Carol and Gwyn are also marvelous, and they welcomed us with such warmth and kindness -- we felt right at home with them straight away. They have thoughtfully designed a home that is spacious, filled with light, and clearly a place where love lives. My mother and I felt that their home was the perfect place for us to have a writing retreat -- it was a real gift to stay there with their darling girl. Thank you, Carol and Gwyn, for trusting us with your precious girl and your beautiful home!
