Rachel was the best person to watch Olive I could have asked for.
Max is a complete lovebug once he warms up to you. Wants attention and purrs like crazy. I really fell in love with him. He did have a lot of energy at night, and tended to want to get into things, and would... sometimes listen to me ;) Whenever you come home he lays out on the floor, inviting petting and loves. And their home is absolutely divine! I loved the murphy bed in the guest room, the gorgeous flowers and plants everywhere, the huge, amazing garden, and last but not least, the hot tub! Truly a dream spot. It's also really near a national park with gorgeous trails if you'd like to hike. Both Liz & John were also really helpful, kind and down to earth. And incredibly responsive to me over text with questions that came up, despite being halfway across the world in Turkey and Uzbekistan! I feel like it's one of my greatest blessings of the last month to have been able to stay in their home :) I cannot recommend this sit highly enough!
We had a great time at Adrian and Judy’s place! They are very friendly and warm people who received us with great hospitality and a lovely meal. The house was beautiful and on an excellent location if you love nature. The dogs were really sweet and loved to go on beautiful sunrise hikes with us through the vineyards. Polly was a little naughty the first day of our stay, but once she got used to us turned into a tail wiggeling cuddle sweetie. Leon is a very well behaved exemplary dog, we never took care of such a good boy before. We had a great time with both of them and miss them already!
The sit wasn’t the worst I have done but also not my normal smooth experience as a veteran sitter. She did a couple actions well: organizing her food and leashes for the dogs and telling me when people would be coming over to look at the property for sale. However, she really needs to work on her communication: sit expectations with the puppy Coco, gate repair issues and just general kindness toward sitter. Coco the puppy originally wasn’t listed on the sit that I applied for. Annie Mae and Cooper were good dogs and pretty easy to care for but Coco required a lot of extra care that should have been better prepared for and communicated ahead of time on the sit application page. Coco’s constant urination and defecation in the house regardless of me taking her out every 30-45 minutes and saying go potty wasn’t told to me when I met Alixe the day before. I was told that accidents happen but she should have bought puppy pee pads or other mats and put them down in the home to make the sitter’s job of cleanup easier and also to preserve the concrete floor from damage. Furthermore, she didn’t properly secure her dog gate to the wall with the Mollies before she left. The gate will always fall out of the wall if not properly secured no matter how many times it’s pushed back in.When I told her I was having issues and needed help, her response felt mean…implication that I was an incompetent sitter and maybe should consider leaving rather than “How can I help you, what’s the problem?” In all my other sits when something went wrong, the homeowner acted nicely, saying they would help me fix it. Be kind to your sitters. Always be helpful when a problem arises. I asked her neighbors to help secure the Mollies to the wall but shouldn’t have had to. A major requirement of her sit was to keep Coco secured in the gate but she was leaving me with an insecure gate and expecting me to fix it. I understand minor things like pounding one nail to a wall if a picture falls but a 45 minute power tool job is excessive and improper preparation on the pet parent’s job. Her neighbors were nice but they shouldn’t have had to do it. I didn’t want to damage her wall with the tools, it could have been a liability issue too. Furthermore, her door code wasn’t changed for me when I first came as she had communicated the day before. She didn’t answer right away when I told her. It was a more minor issue but please show people you care more about how their experience goes. Her communication for the rest of the sit was friendlier than the gate issue but after that initial issue I felt like walking egg shells. I admit that I made a mistake on the second day by going to the wrong building and messaging her about it but I feel like she needs to be nicer to her sitters, prepare her home extensively for puppy sits with a clean floor with mats and pads and a secured gate and always be a leader when a prob lem arises…offering to help fix it.
Genna and Kiera’s home was a lovely getaway from the daily. Lily and Pono were so sweet and welcoming. I would definitely describe it as a home away from home and I’ll miss it very much. Couldn’t have asked for a better first experience on Trusted House sitters. :)
Rebekah and George welcomed me with a wonderful meal and we chatted for a while and got to know each other. After dinner, Rebekah did a great job of showing me what plants to water and how to take care of her two adorable cats, Mayhem and Chi. Rebekah's on-line guide was extremely helpful plus she had a printout with all the necessary information. Rebekah and George live in a very quiet neighborhood in a beautiful home which Rebekah designed and decorated herself. It really shows the wonderful artist that she is. The streets by the house have beautiful wide sidewalks which will take you to the Cape Haze Pioneer Trail, 7 miles long. Rebekah and George graciously let me use their bicycles and I rode all through the area. Boca Grande is a short drive away, as is Punta Gorda, both cute places to visit. Mayhem and Chi are the best cats ever. Sweet boys who play together and occasionally came up to be petted. They love lounging by the pool and on my car (!) in the garage. At night they slept on my bed. They were fun and easy to take care of. I highly recommend this sit!
Rhino and Theakston are two adorable dogs, both young and full of energy. Christian's house is very well equipped and comfortable. We enjoyed staying in Sharow and the walks which started from the garden gate. We were left instructions on the dogs' routine and were given access to the Sky box and the wifi. I was even allowed to do some on line work from the house. Christian communicated with us and kept us updated with his return time. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend the opportunity to active sitters.
