I cared for Emma & Robert’s 2 cats & 2 dogs for 9 nights from 21-29 September. They were new to this site, as was I (they were my first petsit via this site, only ever cared for friends’ animals) & we both bumbled the invitation/acceptance to sit once each! Cara & Islay were the first dogs I’d been in charge of in at least a decade and were so well-behaved and lovely. Cara is 6 mos, a rescue, very sweet, only been at her forever home a month & jumpy - I can’t wait to see how she grows under Emma & Robert’s training. Islay is a very special dog & I don’t say this lightly. I felt very protected with her around especially given that their home is quite remote in Umbria & I am a solo traveler. The cats Mia & Luna were a blast - I am a cat person so that was no surprise. Feline in all the best ways. Emma & Robert have poured their heart and soul into their home & it shows. They went out of their way over & over to make me feel welcome & cared for. Their place is fantastic - you’ll need to be in good physical shape to be here with several sets of stairs. There are no neighbors & their place is exquisite, so having a car is best unless you’re happy to be isolated to recharge, as I was, with a solid 30 min walk each way up and down a significant hill, to a coffee bar with limited provisions. I recommend to any future sitters, that you be a flexible & solutions-oriented person used to being in a rural place. The power might cut out as it did once for me, but Emma had already shown me the fuse boxes before leaving & it was sorted easily. They have strong internet, but it’s a 150+ year old home & you may have to reset the router a few times. You may have a critter make it’s way inside & insects around - if this is stressful for you, this isn’t your place. If you roll with it all & know it can all be figured out (they have a wonderful friend/caretaker around as needed, too!) then you’ll have an incredible time, no doubt. Emma & Robert. Wow. Incredible people. I cannot wait to come back again to care for the girls as well as see one another as friends.
Tess is a young dog full of enthusiasm and overflowing with love. Taking care of her was a real pleasure. James and Jenn were very welcoming and considerate. They took the time to explain their daily routine with Tess and share their tips to make everything go smoothly. We had a very enjoyable Christmas in Tess's company !
