Fantastic sit! Emmett is one of the most affectionate cats I have ever met. He warmed up to me very quickly and we spent a lot of time together cuddling. When he wants to be with you he won't take no for an answer and will purr relentlessly once he is with or on you. Although he has an automatic feeder he thinks every time you're in the kitchen it's to get something for him. You'll want to take care not to step on him. Also, he loves people food, especially dairy products, so be careful leaving them out. The house is very comfortable and I slept well. The sun shines into both living areas in the morning, however, and the living room downstairs is rather unusable until 10 or 11 am because of this. Despite being surrounded by natural beauty I didn't go out much. In no small part this was because the house was nice enough simply to relax in. But also fires were burning in the area and smoke tends to collect in the lake valley. Downtown Kalispell is around 30 minutes away and has the nearest chain stores. US 93 can be slow going along the lake. Stacy is a great host and accommodated my travel plans gracefully. Hope to be back! Matt
Mike & Mary were very welcoming hosts, and together we reviewed the needs of the pets, in particular Zoey, a beautiful white cockatoo. My learning curve was pretty steep with Zoey as I had never tended a bird before. But between their directions and Zoey's personality, I was extremely comfortable. I would talk to her & she would click her tongue as if she were trying to talk back. She was FUN to be around. Mary was always very prompt with any texts I sent her way. Penny was the most laid back dog I have sat. She was always happy, and loved cuddling. She was always close by, a true companion, and just adorable. I fed the outdoor songbirds that visit their beautiful yard. I loved drinking my coffee watching which birds would show up for feed. Everything from Blue Jays, bluebirds, scarlet tangers, and on & on. Five feral cats have adopted Mike & Mary and they are just as pleasant. Have you noticed a theme here. All the animals are extremely easy, pleasant and just fun to be around. The cats are not overly friendly, but I would sit on the steps and just watch them interact. The home is stunning, and as a solo traveler I felt completely safe. On my morning walks with Penny, I met several of the neighbors & they were all very kind and joked about me being on Penny Patrol. If you are looking for southern charm, kindness, low stress and an almost spa like retreat, this is the place. I enjoyed nightly swims in their pool and a glass of wine while I watched the sunset. My only complaint was the sit was too short. I could have stayed weeks.
Lovely stay with Hoagy, Peany and Oreo. Rachel was warm and informative before our stay and it was lovely to meet her upon her return. The house is is a great location with lots to do locally. Definitely would recommend and be happy to go back any time.
Sandra has a wonderful set up for furry and finny family in the north woods of Minnesota. Bear and I had a great time exploring the many paths to the lake and enjoying the loons. Bentley is a cuddle bug while I read or watched TV. There was so much to do around Blackduck that I didn't bother going to Bemidji until on my way home. Sandra and Richard have created fabulous outdoor nooks around the property, which are great to hang out and enjoy the woods and the fresh air. It's only a few minutes to town, even though you feel like your in the middle of the forest. I had a wonderful time. Thank you.
Thanks to Anne and Richard for welcoming me to their lovely and clean home in Queen Anne, with its terrific location, blocks from many amenities and an easy distance from many of Seattle’s charming sights. Anne and Richard offered to have me stay a night ahead of their leaving and kindly let me stay a night after they returned as well. I enjoyed getting to know them. Fiona (the dog) and Finn and Kelly (the cats) are all love bugs and are fun to hang out with. Fiona is only a year-old or so now. It was the first time that she’d been away from Anne and Richard for more than a weekend since joining their home, so she unfortunately experienced separation anxiety and was very jealous of the cats getting attention. That was intensified by my being a solo sitter and lone provider of food and affection. Anne and Richard were quick to ask their neighborhood vet for a calming prescription to help comfort Fiona, as well as asking their daughter to visit and find clothing with their scent. Fiona was overjoyed to see Megan and loved the toys she brought. Anne also ordered new toys for Fiona during our sit, because she’s in chewing mode as a young dog. I very much appreciated how they all thoughtfully tried to make the sit go more smoothly. Anne and Richard are strong and speedy communicators and that worked great for our sit. That included them being considerate in coordinating Megan’s visit — we organized a time that mutually worked and I was happy to get the chance to hang out with her for a bit. Like them, she’s personable. Their neighbors are friendly as well. And there’s a nice park a couple of blocks away and the neighborhood is very walkable. Fiona is a determined little walker and branch-chewer and we had fun all over the neighborhood, as well as visiting a bunch of Seattle’s terrific parks and neighborhoods. She’s an excellent car rider — I’d clip her leash with a rear seatbelt for safety and she’d perch herself on the center console and happily watch everything go by. She’s a young dog with the energy and playfulness to match, and when she needed recharging, she was super lovely at falling asleep on me in the recliner or cuddling on the couch. At night, she easily went into her crate with a treat. I very much appreciate Anne and Richard offering to have me back. I’m torn, because I adored their trio of pets and their home and neighborhood and would enjoy repeating our sit, but worried that I couldn’t give the cats the attention and affection that they deserved, because Fiona was so jealous. I had to separate them and the cats mostly hung out in the basement during the day. I think Fiona will grow out of this phase, though, as she settles in more in Anne and Richard’s kind household. When I sat, she’d been there for only a few months. I was able to snuggle with the cats when they slept with me in the guest room (with a comfortable bed and bedding). They’re both super lovable snugglers and get along well together. Finn especially loved head scritches and purrs up a storm, starting from the night I arrived. Kelly is the braver of the two brothers. The cats are always hungry and make every effort to steal food, keeping me on my toes. I miss the crafty little guys and Fiona. They were a sweet, entertaining trio.
Very lovely property, pups, and pup parents. Bainbridge was such a nice writing haven for me, fit with a gourmet kitchen. Zoe and Alfie were well-behaved, affectionate play buddies. I spoiled them with doggie adventures. There's a great forest hike, sunset beach walk, and a quaint restaurant-village surrounding their house. Felt like a proper Seattle working vacation in a rural setting.
