I never heard of Bedford until I saw the listing on THS. It is a charming place with green spaces, a river, and a bustling town center. I spent 5 days with Winnie, a terrier mix. Winnie is a very communicative dog who lets you know when she wants a treat or to play. At six months she knows how to sit and chew all her toys to bits. The only thing secondary to food and treats is her love of squirrels and birds. She chases a ball or toy but does not retrieve very well. She does have the potential.
The entire stay was extremely enjoyable and relaxing. Kate has a beautiful renovated Victorian home. Parks, High Street, and the train station are walkable within 15-20 minutes from the house. Kate graciously offered to pick up and drop off at the train station. I am happy for the opportunity to visit Bedford.

Set back from the road in a new-growth forest, Brian's house was spectacular: wide hallways; tastefully decorated, comfortable & secluded. There was Alexa in every room, a large collection of vinyl records, & an outdoor hot tub... all powered by the solar array on the roof.

Diva was spirited, playful & outgoing. Sherman had intense eyes; he was aloof & independent. Harley was the observer; he was frequently on patrol. Overnight, Diva shared the bed; sometimes going under the covers. By morning the other 2 might join. Sherman had an odd way of rubbing and contorting his body into mine, especially my head.

Taking the dogs, once a day, for the designated down-and-back walk seemed to do the trick. Harley and Diva shared a Y-shaped leash. Sherman was often resistant at the point where the parking area narrows to the driveway. However, if I pulled him far enough around the bend... eventually he'd concede to the walk. They had a pack mentality, looking out for one another, except when it came to food: then it was each dog for themselves. They loved to eat! Fair warning: they can reach the edge of the kitchen countertops & may even ascend onto the dining room table for unattended food.

Although Basenjis don't bark, they can make other sounds; I heard Diva howl a few times. They loved to pretend-dig into a dog bed or blanket. They could not catch food in the air. It's a challenge to get them to “go potty” when it's wet outside. I resorted to leashing them independently and dragging them out onto the back deck. Initially, they wouldn't descend the steps; so I lifted them under my arm and carried them to a grassy area. I would stand over them, repeating: “go potty.” After a few minutes, Diva and Harley would acquiesce. Sherman was easily the most difficult. After each did business, I would unleash him or her so they could sprint back inside.

During my stay, the garden was a work-in-progress; and it rained enough. In a dry spell, unless they've set up the irrigation, I could see watering the outdoor garden being time-consuming. Additionally, there were 9 shelves of indoor plants, under lights, to be watered. This daily task took about 20-25 minutes to complete. All, or most, of these indoor plants were scheduled to take root in the outdoor garden.

My stay with Louis in Bath was wonderful. Upon arrival Jane made me feel super welcome and treated me to a lovely brunch.
Louis and I spent the week going on some lovely, but very muddy and often wet walks, which we loved! Louis is super sociable and loves to play with other dogs, which is great. He also has good recall, which is great and usually merits a treat!
He is still a puppy so he’s very energetic, loves to play, and is also very very clever!
A super sit. I’d more than happily take care of little Louis in Bath anytime!

I’m so grateful that I got to experience staying in this amazing home and look after Deegan! He is such an affectionate boy and very easy to take care of. He loves to walk and run around independently on the trails around the house. The views, wildlife and greenery is so beautiful. I also really enjoyed exploring Blowing Rock. It’s a lovely town to visit.
James was friendly, funny and provided easy to follow instructions for taking care of the house and Deegan. Highly recommend this sit!

Comfortable house in a lovely safe neighbourhood. T-Ride and Wilson were delightful and well behaved. There was one small hitch that Andrea saw to immediately.

Penny
Penny's place was very clean and organized and the dogs are a dream. Cena and Shelby are two very well behaved and well trained sweethearts. They love to cuddle and are always happy to just be with people.

The house itself is very clean and in a great neighborhood (with easy access to the 'M' and the BART).
