Bishop Monkton is a very pretty village with the most friendly and hospitable residents. Diane's home is a picture-perfect cottage with front and rear sun filled courtyards that flow seamlessly through the house, giving you the opportunity to enjoy the roses and shrubs that fill them. Diane is an awesome host and great company. I had the chance to spend time with her at the beginning and end of my pet sit and we had such a good time I felt I'd known her for years! I'm even seeing her and Flora in a few days' time for an invitation to visit Saltburn! I'm constantly blessed with wonderful charges and Flora was no exception. Flora will immediately steal your heart, she has the most beautiful disposition. We fell for each other straight away - she loved her cuddles, tummy rubs, play times and slept with me every night. She's a little girl so doesn't hog the bed like my own dogs used to lol! We had lovely walks around the village and sports field and you can take her on the bus - we went to Staveley Nature Reserve then lunch at The Royal Oak pub (both highly recommended). For me I didn't need a car, the bus services in the area are excellent. Bus 182 in the village runs from Ripon to Knaresborough, which has a train station that will take you to York. Bus 36 in Ripon will take you to Harrogate, which has a large bus and train station - it's a gateway to everywhere, including a special trip on Bus 24 to Pateley Bridge in Nidderdale AONB. There's even buses from Ripon to Fountains Abbey, which can't be missed when you're here. The Masons Arms pub is a community hub with theme nights, excellent food and company. There's even a fish and chip van in the village every other Friday! I loved every minute of looking after Flora and Diane's gorgeous home. If you get the opportunity to do the same I would highly recommend it! Thank you, Diane and Flora xx
I had the pleasure to stay in a wonderful cottage home. Although originally built in the 1500s, it had all the amenities required: wifi, TV, laundry, Alexa (BBC) and so on. Yet the country furnishings were comfortable and relaxing. I thought the Rayburn stove may be a problem for me - I'd never seen one before! But I used it all the time instead of the conventional oven also available in the kitchen. That Rayburn was part of the "charm" of this home. There is a large garden and yard to sit and read - watch the clouds go by... Transportation is limited to three buses per day going to Exeter will you will need to buy groceries. The Manor Pub and the Nobody Inn were a 30 minute walk. Christow Cab is also available if you decide to get a taxi. Sarah was most welcoming and picked me up at the train station and dropped me off too. She also took me for a drive throughout the Dartmoor Moors! It was fascinating and we saw the famous Dartmoor ponies. Sarah made a delicious roast dinner for me and we shared a few glasses of wine before she left for the next day! Everything was prepared in advance for me to be comfortable. Now, Mumu, the star of my visit. Sooo sweet! Although independent, he is very friendly and loves to be stroked and scratched under his chin. He is a happy guy who clearly has a good life particularly on the back patio. Don't fall for the meowing for food - he gets fed twice a day with dry food available ALL day. His morning and evening stomach work like clockwork! I really miss him. I hope I can return to New Farm. The people are friendly and nature is plentyful. If you like a peaceful life I recommend you stay here. You will be most welcome!
