JoAnna and David were awesome! We came home to happy healthy pets, our house was cleaner than we left it, and after 30 hours of traveling a hot homemade meal waiting. We received daily updates and photos while we were away. It couldn’t have gone any better for us.
This sit was at the gateway of Sussex history which we so enjoyed, like the long country path walks to ancient churches, a castle, sheep and cattle farms, stone quarries, and vintage festivals. We love the old inns where we sat in their gardens with local folk while enjoying a pint of ale or cider. We found local folks very talkative and friendly and one of our best memories. This includes meeting Andrew our first evening and enjoying the dinner he prepared for us before leaving. Andrew was very kind to receive us warmly. He asked in advance what food items we’d like at the start of our housesit and graciously stocked up for the first days. His emails were full of stories about past travels and his favorite places. He requested infrequent check-ins which was fine with us. What we missed from the notes and chats prior to our sit was a sketch of Fausto’s personality through actual examples of behavioral traits or habits we might and did face. For example, Fausto can be sweet and gentle and easy to love but also obstinate if he doesn’t want to walk outside. Since he is a dachshund, Fausto is not able to negotiate stairs. He must be carried up and down two flights of stairs in the flat (20 lbs.) several times a day. But when he wants to go on a walk, he will race down the lower flight of stairs to the front door. Fausto has one dog toy to play with (a wind up one). His bed must be near yours and most nights he can go without an accident. His “demanding” side as Andrew referred to it and as we later learned, meant that we had to either sequester him in the kitchen (when out for 2 to 3 hours) or close the door every time we left the room. Fausto must be with you 24/7 when you are home or he will whine, scratch the door, or bark. He will “settle down” in a closed kitchen area (with easy cleanup of accidents as needed). Accidents do happen as we experienced and saw in carpet stains which we attributed to Fausto. For some reason, he soiled the floor periodically if we didn’t keep a watchful eye on him. Even when we put him out on the balcony (there is no yard) or out for a walk every hour or two, he might have an accident. Things improved once we could anticipate this behavior. This fact, along with some latent cigarette smoke in the house gave off an odor in some locations. (We were not told of apparent smoking in the house prior to our sit.) Weeks before our sit Andrew talked about seeing some sites in the area and being gone 4-5 hours and he left pamphlets about them. However, in the week before and at arrival, Andrew emphasized not to be away from Fausto more than 2 - 3 hours which, when using the buses, meant only towns within a 10 mile radius. It was unfortunate we couldn’t go further occasionally. Future sitters would do well to have a car to enable lengthier day trips within the time constraint of tending to Fausto. We do see the trouble that a whining or barking dog in the apartment could be to close neighbors when left alone for an extended time. We did our best and learned a lot, but wish we were told more details to know what to expect.
My time spent sitting with Penny was just a pure pleasure. She really likes her frisbee time at the park. Also, she is very well trained and a great companion to hang out with. Nelly and Vidas were very well prepared ahead of my arrival. I could not have asked for more. I would definitely sit for them again if I am in the area.
What can I say?! I fell in love with Coco and Mei Mei the minute I met them. Such adorable doggies and so loving and fun. I just wished the sit was for longer, it was hard to leave! I would definitely recommend this sit, I hope I can hang out with the girls again soon! :) Fiona is an absolute gem, a genuinely lovely person with a gorgeous house and everything you need for a comfortable stay. Fiona is really laid back and kind, and so the whole experience was an absolute pleasure. Thank you! <3
I loved staying at Anna’s home with the lovely Posey! Anna was very communicative and ensured I had everything I needed to be comfortable during my stay. Posey is an extremely sweet natured, laid back and easy cat to care for. I had no problems with her and enjoyed sitting with her in the sun in the garden. She’s a very independent cat who likes a snuggle when she’s in the mood! Whilst the house is very central in a lovely corner of Battersea, the house is in a great, relatively quIet spot. It’s a beautiful place with everything you could need- I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.
I couldn't say enough that would express how absolutely wonderful Tom and Sue are! From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed like a treasured guest. Not only did they make me feel at home, they were incredibly helpful. They made sure I had everything I needed and then some for both me and Zelda. Their house is beautiful and so comfortable. A wonderful backyard filled with nature... Sue has quite the green thumb and everywhere inside and out are plants and flowers. Right outside the window washing dishes in the kitchen sink, I would see all sorts of birds and even hummingbirds come to feed - it made doing dishes a pleasant experience no doubt. And I saved the best for last - Zelda is absolutely fabulous! Quite the talker, such a sweetheart, very social. So easy to care for. I had my own kitty traveling with me, and Zelda was a wonderful host to him. And Portland itself well - Portland! I was able to go see the Columbia Gorge among so many other things. If you have the opportunity to do a sit for Tom, Sue, and Zelda... Consider yourself very lucky and in for a wonderful time!
Kola is an absolute sweetie and a total pleasure to be with. She has a gentle loving nature and is super easy to care for. We miss her so much. Emma and Nicky are very thoughtful and generous hosts, we loved staying in their beautiful home just outside Pattaya. Located on a golf course with stunning views over the hills, it is a great place to easily explore the local area. The beach, supermarkets and restaurants are all a short easy drive away. Kola absolutely loves going out in the car with you and enjoys her twice daily walks on the golf course. We hope we will be invited to keep Kola company again.
