Lindsey and Jordan were absolutely amazing in taking care of our pets when we were out of town. We just moved to a new place and they did a great job looking after everything. We were able to communicate easily and they took good care of our pets. It was a good experience coordinating with them.
Lynn and her family were so kind and their home was so beautiful. We truly hope to be welcomed back to take care of Coco, Foxy, and Birdie, in the future. They are the sweetest dogs and were so easy to love. Each had their own very funny distinct personalities and love each other very much. Coco is a distinguished older lady now and needs more help to get outside and piddle but she never complains and her "sisters" are very good at making sure we all go outside and come in together with dear Coco always getting the lead and that means on treats as well - Foxy and Birdie defer to her. : ) They'll touch your heart deeply. And the home is so wonderful - a true gourmet cooks kitchen and your choice of where to dine on your creations abound. The home has a beautiful view of the sea, mountains, and downtown as well as the gorgeous formal dining room for a more cozy dinner. Lynn is an amazing gardener and has wonderful blossoms to sit amongst with the dogs in the backyard - so much bird life! The neighborhood is perfect, with tree lined streets and little distinct shopping districts all within a few minutes walk. The deep forests of the point are nearby for walking and bike lanes whisk you into the Kits and downtown easily. Lynn and her daughter, Liana, were always just a text away and were absolutely welcoming. Thank you for everything and especially for the 3 wonder doggies!
We loved our sit in Mossman for Clara and Bill. Their sweet old boy and fluffball cat were super easy to love and care for and were very happy to hang with us day and night. Clara and Bill were lovely, thoughtful hosts and very easy to communicate with. We had a great handover in their lovely home and spent many happy days there enjoying the pool and their very comfortable and eating mangoes that fell from the trees locally. The Mossman area is close to genuinely beautiful walks and a National park and of course the Great Barrier Reef, which we loved visiting. The ocean, though not swimmable in December because of jelly fish, is beautiful to watch and they do have a section netted that you can take a dip in, which my hubby and kids delighted in. All in all a lovely stay with lovely people and very sweet pets.
Kristine’s home is a beautiful mountain retreat, a relaxing, peaceful atmosphere enhanced by the calm and very friendly cat Cleo. Cleo is a very “chill” cat that is independent yet friendly. She asks very little of you but welcomes your caresses and even some lap time. The home itself is very comfortable and provides quick access to hiking trails. It is also an easy walk into Idyllwild town center for groceries and entertainment. We would go back ourselves given the opportunity, and would highly recommend Kristine's sit.
We had such a nice time at Emma's cottage. Emma is a really lovely person, and she was so welcoming, and we enjoyed getting to know her. She did a great job making sure we knew her dogs well and had a good idea of their routine and walks. Wouster, Dexter, and Kirsty are quite the trio and all very good natured. They love to explore on walks, but they don’t go far, and we felt comfortable walking with them without leads. They also respond well to a whistle and a treat. The property is beautiful with lovely views. All in all, it was a wonderful sit, and we couldn't recommend Emma more.
I drove down from Vancouver to spend 3-months caring for AnnaPurna’s dog, Kim, her home, and her gardens. I went and met her a few days prior to starting. She asked if I would drive she and her husband to the airport. I felt pressured. I agreed. As we were about to leave, she told me that we were not going to the airport, but to her son’s house in San Francisco. Then, she told me that I couldn’t leave the dog, Kim, for more than 2.5 hours at a time. I told her that I would not be able to go out and do anything. She said that she had many choices and should have picked a different sitter. Then, she told me to get off my phone, when I was checking my messages. We drove to her son’s house in San Francisco during rush hour. It took 2.5 hours. Then, with Kim in the back, driving a strange car, I drove back to Santa Cruz. It was extremely foggy, and I could hardly see. It took 3.5 hours to get back to Santa Cruz. Over the 3-months I was there, AnnaPurna messaged me from morning to night, harassing, badgering, demanding, criticizing, and demeaning me, everyday, all day long. She monitored my every movement with her Ring Camera on her cell phone. She knew exactly when Kim and I left the house, and when we returned. When I drove out of the driveway to run errands, she would message and ask if I was home, or when I would be home. When a friend drove into the driveway to pick me up to go for a coffee, she immediately messaged me, demanding “no guests allowed”. Unnerving to say the least! When I arrived at her home it was filthy. Before I could put my food in the fridge I had to scrub the thick layer of dried sludge off the shelves. I always put a towel down on the chairs or sofa before sitting as they were so dirty. The stove was covered in thick grease and dried up bits of food. The dog constantly scooted his butt on the rugs as he had never had his anal glands expressed. I told her repeatedly that he did that. She denied ever seeing it. The rugs, like everything else in the house were filthy. I took Kim for a 1-2 hour walk every morning and every evening. As well, I played ball with him in the back yard for several hours everyday. She knows this because she monitored my movements on camera, and I sent her many, many photos of us on our walks and playing ball everyday. I also often sent her screen shots showing that we walked 12,000-20,000 steps. Still, she constantly accused me of not exercising Kim enough. Kim viciously attacked a husky dog when we were at the off-leash dog park. The man who’s dog was attacked had to kick Kim hard to get him off his dog. It was horrific! Neighbors who know Kim told me that he had attacked other dogs. It is dangerous to have a dog like this off-leash. I won’t do it. AnnaPurna knows her dog attacks other dogs, and chose not to tell me. We are all lucky that no dog was injured, and nobody was sued. Even knowing this, she continually badgered me to take him to the park, off-leash, to play ball. There are signs all over the park stating that it’s illegal, and those with dogs off-leash will be fined. While walking Kim we encountered numerous coyotes. Usually they just stare and leave. Kim would react wildly, barking and pulling to get at the coyotes. One day we encountered a coyote on a country road by the nature sanctuary on Meder Street where I walked Kim every morning. Kim went crazy barking and pulling to get him. The coyote kept approaching. I yelled and yelled and waved my arm trying to get it to run away. It kept approaching, and approaching. I was shaking so hard, and couldn’t catch my breath. Absolutely terrifying. Even after I told her all this, she accused me of being weak, and said , “poor Kim”, and continually insisted I take him off-leash hiking up hiking trails. AnnaPurna demanded that I hand water her enormous gardens. She has soaker hoses installed all throughout the gardens, with timers, but said that it’s less expensive for me to hand water. It took me hours and hours every week to hand water all the fruit trees, and bushes, and flowers, etc. Front, side, and back yard. Plus, numerous outdoor potted plants, and 50 indoor plants. She insisted I send her photos of me hand watering. Then, she was relentless, complaining that I used too much water, and the water bill was high! I asked to see the bill, and she said she didn’t have time. Then, it turns out the water bill usage was from the month prior to me even being there! The next month, again, she complained relentlessly about the expense of my water usage. At her direction, I shopped for groceries for the dog, cooked him chicken, (which I de-boned by hand), chicken stock, scrambled eggs, cut up and cooked carrots, cabbage, peas, etc. He ate my home cooking for every meal. I cleaned his eyes, checked his feet, brushed him, petted and massaged him. I took extremely good care of Kim. After spending 3-months caring for Kim, walking, feeding, playing with, and sleeping in the same room, I bonded with Kim, and miss him a lot. I spent two days prior to my leaving, cleaning AnnaPurna’s house. I asked her where her mop and bucket were, and it turns out she doesn’t have one. Of course she doesn’t. When AnnaPurna and her husband arrived home, after 3-months away, her gracious husband greeted me warmly and thanked me for taking care of Kim, their home and gardens. AnnaPurna barely acknowledged me, and did not thank me. Her husband is a very elderly man and was struggling to bring the suitcases up the front stairs. AnnaPurna just watched. I helped him, and brought the luggage up for him. She yelled at me to take my shoes off. There is much more, but I shall leave it at this. I will never house/dog sit for AnnaPurna again, and I feel sorry for her dog.
