The house sit in a blue house in the Blue Mountains was a dream. Thanks to Bundy, my lovely old Koolie-Cattle Dog cross companion. Thanks to the lovely owners, Gillian and Stephen. Thanks to the gorgeous home and garden. And thanks to the blissfully peaceful and green Blackheath setting. Bundy needed just tenderness and patience and I had plenty of that to offer. He is, in his senior age, very low maintenance and we still got our two 15-20 minute walks in daily. But he appreciates human companionship and kindness. For nature lovers, this sit is ideal - with all the Blue Mountains National Park hikes at your fingertips. But even if you want to sling back in the hammock on the old-world veranda and read a book, you will be accompanied all the way by the birds and butterflies in the garden. The owners were so hospitable and easy-going, truly welcoming me into their home, and their friendship was the cherry on the cake. Gillian, Stephen and Bundy for this lovely review. It was an honour to look after Bundy - and I share his sadness since my departure. Your kindness and hospitality sandwiching my sit was the cherry on the cake!
Wendy and Paul’s little cottage is in one of the most beautiful locations I’ve stayed at. The river right in front of the house and the trees - just gorgeous! It’s worth mentioning that as I’m writing this the cottage is being renovated and there have been building works going on while I was staying (which I knew about). So just be aware that if there are still works going on when you’re reading this, you can expect a little bit of the typical chaos that arises in this situation. The builders are super friendly and I was given a ride into town twice which I was so grateful for! Because if you don’t have a car, it takes you about 45 mins into the next town by foot. Beauly and its surroundings are really beautiful though and the people very friendly! The cats are very sweet cats who have lots of love to give & they are easy to look after. It was only Cocoa and Engine I was looking after, so it’s not 6 but 2 cats. Their litter box is located upstairs in front of the bedroom, so if you’re sensitive to smells you have to make sure to clean the litter box a few times during the day, so I stayed on top of it. Wendy and Paul are very nice people who let me stay two nights before my sit started, picked me up and dropped me off from Inverness station & took me out for dinner, which was very sweet and generous. In general they are generous people who wanted to make sure that I was having a good time.
We had a wonderful sit with the pups. They're very sweet and well behaved. You do need to watch Hamilton though. He likes to go after food and got into the medication when I had my back turned. Jill was extremely understanding when I explained what had happened. The home is well situated and we were able to go skiing for the day. Jill gave us great advice on where to go and eat. If they would have me, I'd love to sit for them again.
Maatje was a great host, super communicative and accommodating. The house is a lovely old cottage with a beautiful garden in a quiet area, but also super close to Newport town where we thoroughly enjoyed popping into for breakfast at Caffe Isola! Mitz was the sweetest, most placid dog and was super well behaved... he is very old so spent a lot of the time sleeping and was happy to sleep under the table when we took him out and about. Pippin was such a sweet little cat, we didn't see much of him as he was out a lot but he was very affectionate when he was with us. Thanks for a lovely house sit!
We loved sitting for Kathryn and her sweet dogs. Even though the weather wasn’t great we found the house comfortable and cosy and were kept even more comfy sharing the sofa cuddling up with the dogs. Cassie is the most adorable staffie we have met and will lick any exposed skin and give loads of affection. The younger two dogs have a bit more energy and will want to get out for ‘zoomies’ around the garden whatever the weather, and love a good walk if the weather allows. Kathryn is amazing host too and bakes the best cakes ever! Just saying 😉. We really have made a dear friend and can’t wait to return.
Samson is a very, very, very sweet lab who will warm up to you given time. Once at that point, he will rest near you and want to stay near. He is the easiest when on his leash and he loves walks - be sure to follow Kim's guidelines. He especially likes his time at the neighborhood park. He is older but mello and sweet. It was hard to say goodbye to him. The views from any part of the house are impressive - especially those of the lights at night and the planes coming into the airport. Kim was good at communicating and the neighbors are friendly. It is a quiet and safe feeling area. Be sure you are okay with driving hills. I enjoyed this stay - and Samson!!
