As I was going to be away for 7 weeks I did a full days handover with Liza and left confident she would be able to cope with my pets requirements and the basic upkeep of my house. I pre-warned Liza on 12th June , before she had booked her flights, there may be some works spilling over into her 7 week sit. The reason being we had a house fire in March which had caused a lot of smoke damage. She confirmed she was , and I quote “ Totally ok about the jobs! I actually used to be in property management , so am used to helping facilitate these types of job ha ha :)”. During the sit I became concerned from comments from the workmen that had been carrying out jobs on my house, post fire, and work in the garden. I hoped their concerns might be exaggerated, unfortunately when I returned home I found his was not the case. On reflection I think that the large number of pets, the size of the house and the jobs that needed to be carried out during her sit along with the long duration of the sit was too much for her to cope with competently. Below are my biggest concerns on my return home , comments from my neighbours, workmen/ family friend ◦ no water down for my dogs ◦ very small container of water for my cats ◦ Small bowl of dirty water for my chickens ◦ Dogs food bowls in the garden next to each other containing swollen kibble. My dogs must be separated when eating. Liza knew this, they are not grazers there are a lot of insects here as it is rural ◦ All my cats had lost weight ◦ Nala my female dog lost weight and bald patches of fur ◦ Leo my male dog put weight on ◦ A very strong smell of cat urine and dog fur when entering the house ◦ Lots of fur loose and chunks around all the edges of all floors ◦ Bins full ◦ Fridge dirty and contained perished food ◦ Deep scratches on the passenger door of my car . I spent time and money to add Liza to my car insurance for the duration of the sit. My car is by no means pristine, I would have appreciated being told she had damaged ◦ Plants that had both sentiment value and plants that cost in the region of 200 euros dead or dying, both inside and outside the house. I understand the weather was hot, the same as last year, yet with correct watering I didn’t lose any. The hot weather should not have affected the indoor plants, again last summer I didn’t lose any ◦ Neighbours comments - ◦ The dogs were out in the garden for many hours most days. ◦ Both my attached neighbour and next door but one neighbour heard my dogs barking and howling for hours most days ◦ Insufficient clean water and shade for my chickens ◦ Workmen / family friend comments - ◦ No housework was done until the night before my return ◦ The floors were covered in a thick layer of fur until the night before my return ◦ He found it difficult to prepare his lunch as all work surfaces were covered with her belongings and fur ◦ He was worried to store his lunch in my fridge, it was that dirty ◦ The cats were crying at him for food regularly ◦ Liza was friendly to him but he didn’t see her doing anything with any of the pets or the house ◦ His thoughts were that “it was a holiday for her “ If I were asked for a recommendation for Liza I would have to decline. I am an animal lover and would not wish my experience on anyone. I was tired after 3 flights and 18 hours of travelling I asked my neighbour, who had befriended Liza to please keep her with her so I could sleep before dealing with the conditions I was met with on my return home. As Liza left at 6am the following morning my friend very kindly drove her to the train station. I have tried numerous time to speak to Liza since , she doesn’t answer my calls. She messages back stating she wants to speak to me once she has arrived back in Tennessee. I was keen to speak to her before by phone or by message. She has declined every attempt by me to communicate since 31st August it is now 4th September . I am sure she has had signal and 5 minutes spare during her journey home. I decided to go ahead with my review before speaking to her as I can’t for-see any explanation for the way she has treated my pets and home. I checked in with Liza numerous times to ensure everything was going well . She never once said there was a problem. If she had communicated there was I would have been happy to make alternative arrangements with another sitter or I would have returned home early. My pets and their welfare are very important, I am devastated after joining this site to have had this experience.
