Taking care of Bear was a wonderful experience, I will definitely miss him, Bear is a cat with whom you have to earn his trust and affection at the beginning, he was a little shy but in a few hours he became a very sweet and very smart cat, he was a great companion... I had a big and comfortable room perfect for what I needed. The owners took care of all the details and treated me incredibly well. Near the house, there are some beautiful places, the people are very friendly, I keep the best impression of this excellent experience, thanks for everything Jane and Justin! See you soon! :)
This was a longer sit..5 days…everything that could go wrong did….from cancelled flights for one of the hosts, to my daughter getting covid and not being able to fly out and join me in Colorado :-(. However, Jenna and her husband was so gracious and made me feel so comfortable regardless, so still deserving of 5 stars!! The highlights of my stay in Colorado included hanging and cuddling with Paisley and Dot. For the most part, they were the chilliest dogs that enjoyed just being near you cuddling and staying warm. They can be sassy when they want something, Paisley wanting my undivided attention. Dot, with her puppy energy, when she wanted to play! Overall, I appreciate the host not making me have to find other accommodations, especially once my daughter had to cancel. It would have been pretty lonely w/o Dot and Paisley, who were great company! *I was provided with a gift upon leaving, which I LOVE …thank you JENNA!
We can't say enough about Vicky, Tad, Smoosh, and their lovely home! We spent the end of summer and early fall in Jamaica, and fell in love with the area. It is rural but vibrant, and an easy drive to many beautiful state parks, ski areas, pretty VT towns, and nestles up against the Green Mountain National Forest. The famous ski corridor VT Route 100 is right around the corner. If you like outdoor pursuits, there is hiking out the front door and many classic trails nearby; the aforementioned skiing and snowshoeing/xc skiing; in the other 5 New England seasons (Mud, Black Fly, Spring, Summer, Fall) the river which borders the property is an absolute joy and you will almost always have it all to yourself. Smoosh knows a really good swimming hole nearby, and is happy to go every day if you let her. She is getting a bit creaky, but started a new medication around the time we came which improved her mobility greatly. We still had to limit her exercise a bit, however, as she's pretty sure she's still an adult dog as opposed to an elder, and will be extra slow and stiff the next day if she overdoes it. She has some spots on her skin which require ongoing care, and any sitters will need to be confident in handling medium to large dogs to be able to monitor and care for these. She's not thrilled, but is manageable with baths and brushing, and especially in the swimming season her curly poodle coat needs regular care. She is absolutely petrified of loud noises, so the radar must be watched in thunderstorm season. Vicky and Tad recommended that she get her "calm down pills" about an hour before an approaching storm for best effect, and this does make a difference, but she still cannot be left alone if there is a chance of storms on the way. Pop-up thundershowers pose an especial challenge for this reason. The hills to the west influence the weather in interesting ways, so our puny human ears would often have no idea that a thunderstorm was near until Smoosh began behaving differently. She is nearly inconsolable, so you just have to do your best with calm companionship. She does travel well and loves going for rides, so she is happy to come with you most anywhere. The house is private and situated on a road where everyone knows everyone. We didn't need to make use of it, but Vicky and Tad provided us with contact info for several neighbors if we needed help with anything. They were incredibly generous with their space, and their home really came to feel like home to us, too. It is cozy without being cluttered, and there is plenty of space to entertain a child on a rainy day (though I would note that this house may not be for every child, as there are many breakables at kid height and no child-proofing). Each object clearly has personal meaning, and their discerning artist's eyes are evident. We also enjoyed many sunset dinners on the back porch! Vicky and Tad were readily available while overseas, and made sure we had everything we needed to make our stay and Smoosh's care successful. We miss Smooshieboo and her excellent ability to throw side-eye and *sigh* when she either thinks you're up to something suspicious, or has just tired of your human-ness. We are so fortunate to have met this family and look forward to visiting when we're in the area again! No question that if you get the opportunity, jump on this sit, you'll be so happy you did! Thanks Vicky and Tad for trusting us with your home and your girl!
