We were very happy with Nicole as our pet sitter! She took care of our old golden retriever together with her companion Adrian for a week in April 2023. Everything went very well while we were on holiday abroad. Nicole sent us daily messages and photos of our Speck, keeping us informed of his walks and moments of cuddles and play. Nicole and Adrian also took care of my plants and looked after our house. We spent together the evening before our departure and the evening when we returned and this time gave us the opportunity to get to know each other better. We were immediately confident that we could trust them and we left more than happy leaving our house and our Speck to them. Thanks again Nicole and Adrien, two very reliable and recommended pet sitters!
Unfortunately this pet sit did not go well for us. My dogs both got sick within the first few days and Chantal didn’t seem to understand how to deal with dogs with diarrhoea suggesting that she thought she could feed them white bread to help. One of my dogs is wheat free so that would have made it considerably worse. I messaged to ask that she just feed them chicken and boiled rice to settle their stomach for a few days, but if that didn’t work then they might have something more serious and would need to go to the vet. Chantal was working a lot while she was housesitting so couldn’t get the medication the dogs needed within the first day or so when she eventually did, she gave the dogs 4 boxes of diarrhoea tablets over 5 days… these are only supposed to be given for 3 days then go to the vet. She only phoned the vet 5 days into the diarrhoea. A week into the sit she discovered what she thought was a leak from the bathroom above the main hallway. An immense amount of water has come through from the bathroom (although there is nothing leaking now) through the floor and ceiling causing a huge amount of damage. zeewoi won’t assess the claim unless I claim on my own insurance and mine won’t cover it because there is no evidence of mechanical failure or fault with the pipes. They suggested that it appears that it was caused by an overflowing bath. A few days later Chantal phoned me at 6am UK time (I was 8 hours ahead) and said that she had been cooking chicken, burnt it and had set all the fire alarms off in the house (they are all linked). They had been going off for 15 minutes before she phoned me. In all these emergency occasions she contacted me instead of the emergency numbers of people close by who could gave helped. On returning home, our house was in a very poor state. I spent all of the first day home cleaning diarrhoea splatters from the walls and pantry units in my kitchen. I vacuumed 4 cylinders full of dog hair and general dirt from the kitchen floor and surfaces alone. Nothing was cleaned for 2 weeks while Chantal was staying. She did strip the bedsheets off the main bed the night before she left and slept in the bed in a sleeping bag. I think a mix of lack of experience with dogs, doing her job working on line and busy doing meetings meant that she didn’t get the dogs the treatment or prioritise looking after them or the house. I very much got the sense that this is just free accommodation for her whilst working rather than actually being here to look after the animals or home.
