Hi Jenny & James, What a pleasure it was taking care of your fur babies Elvis and Monty! They were a delight, with very distinct personalities, likes and dislikes! It was a privilege being able to embrace the peace and quiet of the village of Holwell and getting to know its residents. It was an ornithophile's paradise! Thank you and we would love to sit for the boys again.
We had a great 10 days in the late summer with Roma, Pacha and Dora and the flocks at Laura’s traditional Country Home. Being local to Gloucestershire, we visited Laura and Hugh prior to the house sit dates a few times, to become familiar with their requirements. This was their first time using THS, so somewhat naturally nervous about the experience. Laura &Hugh are very friendly and helpful. Communication with Laura and Hugh was great before and during the housesit. Laura provided detailed notes via email, on all routines and tasks, that were super helpful. Roma the Lurcher is affectionate, placid, sweet and adorable. Roma loves to mouse hunt when on a walk. Roma is kept on extendable lead for safety as can chase animals. Pascha and Dora are also sweet and attentive. P&D give/receive love lots of affection. We kept Pascha on a leash for safety. Dora was let off leash when in the fields. There are several great, country public walk paths directly from the house. There is a pasture beyond the haha, for a shorter walk. We particularly enjoyed the 1 mile walk to the nearby Cafe/Restaurant ; The Trouble House. All 3 were relaxed at the cafe. The dogs enjoy lounging on the rear lawn or in the house, in between walks. Their routine was easy to follow. They sleep quietly in the utility room. We really appreciated Laura taking the time to go through the morning and evening poultry care schedule with us in person a few times, and writing everything down. The routines kept us busy each day, especially during the hot weather, when we topped up all the water bowls regularly. We also gathered eggs ready for collection on particular days. Laura and Hugh’s rural home is quiet, private, spacious and comfortable. The house alarm was easy to use when we all left the house. The multiple gardens are beautiful with delightful views. Having had good weather during our stay, we particularly enjoyed dining, and relaxing in the garden with the dogs, listening/watching nature. We enjoyed cooking in the large country kitchen with the Aga and relaxing in the evening in the TV lounge watching the ducks and chooks do their thing outside. Sitters have the use of a bright, large double bedroom, comfy bed, drawer space and a spacious bathroom with shower. Clean linen and towels provided. We were also able to help ourselves to free range eggs, fruit and vegetables from the garden and orchard, which we very much appreciated. If you love country living, then this rural sit that will keep you busy and entertained. Historic Market Town, Tetbury on the doorstep, is delightful and offers everything you may need for shopping, eateries, cafes etc. We are already booked again for a few days and will be very happy to return. :)
