Carla is a wonderful petsitter! She and her son Zach came to stay with my three dogs and one cat. Carla is responsive, responsible, and an all-around lovely person. She sent photo updates of the animals throughout her stay, and expressed real enjoyment of spending time with them. Carla gladly administered meds to Ellie, one of the dogs. She and Zach left the house extremely clean, and washed all the linens before leaving. I can't recommend Carla enough!
We had a great time in Leysin with Bo! He's a big dog with an even bigger heart. There are various walks/hikes in the area and many right at your doorstep. The chalet is very beautiful, clean and has all the amenities including amazing mountain views. Karen and Quentin are super friendly, welcoming and very easy to communicate with. We thank them for trusting us with their lovely home and dog!
I absolutely loved my time near Alnwick with sweet Jemima and her "parents" Judy and Paul. I was very warmly welcomed the evening of my arrival at their charming village home, full of character. We started by sharing a great meal and immediately connected, like old friends. Their kitty cat warmed up to me very quickly and we had lots of fun playing with feathers sticks and running around the dinner table! She is not a cat lap but enjoys receiving cuddles, head scratches/chin rubs and expresses her satisfaction with loud purring. The house garden is truly magical and it felt like being in complete nature. Watching the night sky and the Milky Way has also been breathtaking! The weather was quite sunny and still warm during my stay, so I had the chance to get a little more sun tanning before the official arrival of the rainy season! Lovely long walks can be enjoyed nearby, especially along the river. Northumberland is truly a beautiful part of the UK, with much to offer along the coast and inland. The local village of Felton is particularly friendly. Looking forward to return at Stobo Cottage not far down the road... Thanks a lot Judy, Paul and Jemima!
I cannot say enough great things about Filí and Sarah. Sarah was so easy to communicate with before and during my stay. Her home is a little piece of paradise within walking distance to many Santa Fe attractions. I had no issues at all with anything in the home and felt immediately comfortable. Filí! Filí is the world’s sweetest pup. She is so calm and friendly. During the day she entertained herself with a bone or just napping around. In the afternoon we went in a long off leash walk. She is phenomenal off leash. Even for someone like me who gets nervous with off leash dogs (due to a lifetime full of runners) it was so easy. I was never worried for a second about her. We went on in-town adventures and into the mountains and she was perfect. If you get the chance to stay with Filí, jump on it! You won’t regret it.
I had a lovely stay looking after Storm for Neil and Nicole. The property is a mini oasis away from the hustle and bustle of the city but is just a 10min drive to major supermarkets, 15mins to the beach and 30mins to the city CBD. The home has many great indoor and outdoor spaces to work or relax and they have a lot of great books if you’re an avid reader. FOR THE NEXT SITTER Storm takes a little time to warm up to you initially. Just let him be and within 24hrs, he will be your best friend and your little shadow never leaving your side. At home he follows you everywhere and generally won’t go anywhere if you’re not there. I put his food bowl down and went outside to take the bins out and he stopped eating and sat by the door until I came back. If you’re inside, he’ll sit near you and chill and even if you leave the door open, he’ll just be outside never too far away. He absolutely loves the tv. As soon as you turn any tv on, he is there. He mainly likes sports but gets excited about anything really. Storm has a deflated soccer ball and frisbee that he loves to play tug a war with. He is super strong and generally always wins. He absolutely loves head scratches and lots and lots of pats. He will head butt your arm to ask for pats when he wants your attention and says thank you by putting his paw on you. I discovered he gets the zoomies when you play basketball in the front yard so I would shoot some hoops just before bedtime and he will run around and get all his energy out. Storm is a little different out of the house. He is an on-lead dog at all times and doesn’t really respond to come or sit but is better if you have a treat. He is fairly easy to walk on a lead but will pull especially when he gets a strong scent. There are some walking paths near the house but be careful of the spikey burr weeds in the area. Storm will run into them and then they get caught in his fur. There are brushes in his basket and he loves a brush so they will get the burrs out. The best paths are a quick drive away and Storm is happy to jump in the car for ride. You will need to strap him down and seatbelt his harness in. It’s important to note that Storm really doesn’t like some dogs. You should keep him away from golden retrievers and labradors as he really didn’t like them when we encountered them on our walks. There are also chickens and lizards to look after but they are super easy. The chickens have food and water and all you really need to do is check on them once or twice a day and make sure the gates are locked. The lizards are also easy and you need to feed them once a day and make sure they have water. Lovely sit for a lovely family and I wouldn’t hesitate to sit for them again.
My experience looking after Lill and Phoebe was really enjoyable! Mary Ellen and Ciaran were wonderful hosts and made me feel right at home. The dogs have lots of space outside to roam around and they love to play fetch. They enjoy a lie in and cuddles in the mornings and in the evening they love to chill beside you on the couch or lie on your lap. Lil occasionally gets a little impatient with her sister and growls a little but mostly fine with one another and both really affectionate girls. There are many beautiful places to visit close to the house and the view from the sitting room and garden is just breathtaking. I would highly recommend this sit and would happily return again to look after these sweet dogs! Thank you
Nicole has a huge heart for dogs and had 4 rescues (and a cat) at the time I sat for her. She brought 1 dog on her trip, leaving 3 with me (I watched the 4th one as well for just a few hours after they came home). Willa (the cat) was delightful and fun to watch. She lives in her teen's bedroom. I played with Willa for a half hour twice a day, checked her food, and cleaned the litter box. The dogs are so loving and sweet. As rescues, they all have their quirks. They also want (and need) a lot of attention. This is great if you love cuddling with dogs! The most challenging part of this sit was that it took place over 4th of July weekend, and all 3 dogs get anxious around fireworks. There were people in the neighborhood shooting off fireworks consistently for 2-3 hours every night for 4 nights (plus occasional bursts much later than that on some nights). I brought the dogs up to the guest bedroom around the time the fireworks started, and we hung out together with classical music playing. That seemed to help, but they were still stressed. If you love cuddling dogs and are used to understanding and accommodating the quirks rescues need to feel safe, you will probably enjoy Nicole's sweet pups. If you have less experience with dogs or are looking for an "easy" sit so you can do a lot of sightseeing, it may not be a good fit for you.
