Truwayne is responsive, friendly and very hospitable. His apartment is located in a modern suburb and is very close to the train station. There is a train station directly outside the apartment and two supermarkets very close by. He has a modern, clean apartment with all the appliances and gadgets you could need. Bailey is full of personality and energy!
I had the most wonderful 7 days with these 3 GORGEOUS cats, they were so lovely to be around and easy to care for, each with their own beautiful personality. Joleen and Terry have a stunning home and I felt comfortable straight away. The house was immaculate and Joleen had left lots of notes to help me find everything easily (which was a huge help) together with a booklet with full details about each cat, their habits and the daily routine. The town is an easy walk with lots of lovely restaurants and shops, plus lots of other places of interests and good walking routes. I felt like I was on a retreat for the week in the company of fabulous cats! I am going to miss the cats and hope to be able to return again to care for them in the future.
One of the chosen few! One of the best housesits you could ever experience. Not just in respect of the house, the kindest of hosts, ( Richard and Margaret), the animals, the fabulous pool and grounds and spectacular hillside views! In addition, there are friendly English neighbours and Portuguese staff on site to help should any problem arise. For two months this was not just a sit but our lovely home. Our charges were well- behaved and affectionate and delighted to go for daily walks although they had very comfortable kennels and very spacious fenced areas to roam in. We arrived a week early to meet our hosts and neighbours and to understand exactly what would be required of us as sitters and to gain important knowledge of the site and local area. Our hosts left clear written instructions of daily tasks and contact numbers for every eventuality. We were able to be in daily contact throughout the housesit. The house was modern and spacious and we had exclusive use of a covered salt water swimming pool. Our hosts took us out to meals to show us popular eating choices and generously stocked up the fridge before our arrival We were insured to drive a vehicle that the hosts provided and we were given a cleaner so we could fully focus on the animal care. The dogs would each say they were the favourite but honestly we loved them all. What great company they were! We had some great half day trips to a major Roman settlement at Conimbriga and also a royal hunting lodge, now a 5 star hotel, Bussaco Palace Hotel, set in 250 acres with over 700 species of ancient trees. The nearby local village of Coja was excellent for shopping and meals out and lovely riverside walks. This was our longest housesit so far but also one of the best. Highly recommended.
Tracey and John's house was very comfortable in a quiet neighborhood. There is a beautiful big backyard with a pool and citrus trees. We had Oreo as our dog companion for a few days while her parents went on a short vacation. Oreo has some difficulties with her legs so stayed home. She is a beautiful sweet husky. Our first husky sit! She is affectionate (likes to lick) and easy going. She enjoys her 20-30 minute walks in the neighborhood, sleeping in her favorite spots, and watching us cook in the kitchen. The two cats, Paradise and Patches, were very low key as well, but hardly saw them as they prefer not to be around the dogs. All went well. We sat by the pool and read as if we were in a resort. Great hot tub as well. All good.
Michael and Carrie were easy to work with. Their home is comfortable and Eli and Emma were easy going as well. I received a very thorough guide and also videos of their morning and evening routines. Emma and Eli take a lot of medication and vitamins but it was absolutely no problem with the guidance I was given and I prepared pill packets that I was able to just add to their meals. The cat, Ray Wiley also did his own thing and came home at night as expected. I enjoyed being there and would recommend this sit.
Muddy is a beautiful pup with a LOT of energy, who followed me everywhere, with a ball or another toy in his mouth, from room to room, trying to get me to throw it around for him to fetch it and bring it back. Momo, the youngest cat, would also follow me around, most of the time, so Muddy, Momo and I would usually occupy a very small space at ll times when in the house. You have to keep that in mind when backing up with a stack of anything in your arms :) Cat Stevens was the chill cat. He does sometimes want to interact, usually when Muddy and Momo are taking a nap or minding their own business, or when he wants food. I was watching after them in the middle of a hit wave and one summer storm day. My priority was to make sure they drank water and that Muddy did not overheat during his walks. We took several long walks and I brought water with me and carrots as a snack, which he really enjoyed. The apartment is outfitted with anything needed and more. It DOES get really hot by mid morning, so if you are going to be away for a long time, reach out to Amanda and Tripp, and discuss whether you should leave the AC unit on. This is REALLY important, no matter how much water you leave for them in the house, as Muddy is quite sensitive to the heat. As a good Labrador, he loves the water and I let him spend lots of time playing in the fountain acros the street, always on his leach. He loves it when the drain is blocked with a plastic bag and water accumulates and he can lay in it, or drag his tennis ball inside. Muddy and Momo will want to sleep with you and it takes a while for them to settle and accept the part of the bed you assign them. Momo will climb on you at 6:10 AM not for food as much as for attention (he does this even if there is food in his plate) so you won't really need an alarm clock, but wake up time is not optional :) They are very good, funny animals.
