Karen and I, house sat and looked after Mark and Joys lovely cottage and adorable dogs, Poppy and Daisy. The dogs are well behaved and a delight to look after. We were made to feel very welcome on arrival and Mark was in contact well before the sit. We would highly recommend a house sit for Mark and Joy if you get the chance . Thank you for having us.
Catherine and Richard were fabulous hosts from when we arrived. Their package was precise and detailed on the workings of their home and the surroundings. Their home is magnificent in a very rural setting in the Gers. We didn't see too much around as we were happy to hang out with the guys in the summer heat (it gets very hot there!). And what a pleasure they were. Monte and Scamper followed us everywhere all the time. Lazslo the pointer, calm and solemn usually but he certainly lets you know when walkies time is close! We had a great time playing fetch in the garden, walking in the country lanes or by the river. There are so few people around that they can trot (the two little guys) or gallop (Lazslo) off leash. We miss them already and hope to see them again in the future.
We had an amazing stay at Deborah’s house watching Zoe! The house is beautiful and in a great area, and Deb is a fantastic host. We had the best time with Zoe! She is super sweet, easy to take care of and tons of fun at the park. She is a great cuddler and we are already missing hanging with her. We hope to come back and watch her again some time!
Heather and Trevor were amazing hosts from the start! They’re extremely kind and picked us up from the airport and dropped us off at the bus station when it was time to depart. They made sure we had everything we needed to take care of Floki and Tricky. We loved Floki and Tricky! They’re very easy to take care of and pretty well behaved. Floki is very cute and is more energetic and snuggly and Tricky is an older, calmer, very sweet girl. The house is beautiful and has plenty of outdoor living space which we very much enjoyed. We ate outside everyday because the weather was lovely and warm! There are many places to walk near the village, and let the dogs of leash. Also, they live about an hour and a half from Porto so a day trip there is possible. There are also many great things to see that are much closer such as the beach, and Heather gave us a lot of great recommendations. Overall we loved taking care of Floki and Tricky and would highly recommend this sit!
This housesit did not go particularly well for us. Despite the homeowners' profile stating that a car would be available to ferry the dogs to their various walking locations this turned out not to be the case and we were expected to take them in our own car down rough and pitted tracks more suited to a 4 wheel drive vehicle. We took the dogs for walks on the beach, a 45 minute drive each way, in our own car. I would not recommend this sit to a family with young children as the puppy nips to get attention, especially if you show the other pets any affection. Hopefully this is just a phase and she will grow out of it soon. The house is lovely and easy to look after with the exception of the pool. During the backwash process you have to hold the hose onto the waste water outlet which is difficult and you have to be very strong to hold it in place against the force of the water. The town is nice and had everything you need. After the first week of the sit we were subjected to the lockdown imposed by the Spanish government due to the Covid-19 outbreak. The homeowners had to come back from their holiday a week early. We could not make our own travel arrangements until the homeowners confirmed they were actually on their flight home due to the tenuous nature of their travel plans. We booked the first flight we could afford which didn't require a change in another European city (Ryanair had stopped flying to and from Spain by then). When we asked the homeowners if we could stay the 3 nights until our flight they said no which presented us with a problem as all the hotels had been closed and we were effectively made homeless, despite there still being a week of the sit left to run. Fortunately the lovely couple we were due to sit for in April came to our rescue and kindly took us in. We had to abandon our week's supply of food in order to leave immediately and were criticised for leaving meat products in the fridge. Similarly with the recycling - we were under lockdown conditions and could not go to the recycling centre. We were accused of allowing black mold to occur in the bathroom but this is an existing issue which the homeowners have experienced before and occurred despite us ventilating both the bathroom and the bedroom. We were told not to use the grill in the oven which we didn't and the rack in the oven would have been thoroughly cleaned if we'd had the chance to complete the sit. I am devastated that we have been left such a poor review, especially as the Covid-19 situation was stressful enough for all concerned. I feel that this sit has been very one-sided, with the homeowners' needs put over and above those of the sitters. We have completed over 40 sits on this and other platforms and this is the first time that I have been unable to recommend a sit.
If you get the chance to sit for Stevie, definitely go for it - he is an easy, lovable cat and a treat to cuddle with on the couch. Jasmine is easy to coordinate with and her apartment is clean, comfortable and in a very central location. The pool and hot tub downstairs are an added bonus. Thanks so much Jasmine and Stevie!
